  1. My wife’s AOS green card (k-1) interview was November 1st in Philadelphia, PA. The Interview only lasted maybe 15 minutes. It went well I think. The Lady said that we would have an answer in 30-60 days. We are on 80 days. We’ve emailed them and all they said is that they will check and we haven’t heard anything back. So frustrating and stressful.

we are all waiting. So I’m just curious whose in the same boat as me? Let me know how long you have been waiting and what location you interviewed at.

  2.   My wife and I had our AOS (K-1) interview November 1st. My wife is the one adjusting status. The interviewer was nice but serious. She only asked how we met and then ran through for I-485 with us. It went well beside when she questioned us about our different mailing address and our home address. I started rambling and my wife had to clarify our address and mailing address to the interviewer. so I’ve been freaking out. Anyway, she didn’t ask us for any additional documents. Our interview lasted about 10-15 minutes. She then said that we will have an answer within 30-60 days. That was it. We are still waiting and I’m still stressing out but I also may just be in my head.

Anyone have their AOS interview in Philly? I was wondering how all of your interviews went and how long it took to get an answer back?

  3. My wife and I had our interview November 1st. My wife is the one trying to adjust status. Like you, they just asked how we met and our address and ran through the packet. The interviewer was very nonchalant and nice but serious.  I kind of messed up and rambled a little bit when she asked about our address. so I’m freaking out.  Anyway other then that our interview went pretty good. It was over in seriously 10-15 minutes maybe. They told us we would have an answer in 30-60 days. We are still waiting for an answer. They didn’t ask for any documents at the interview which I thought was weird. We had a whole bunch of documents to hand in but they didn’t ask. I wish we handed them the documents anyway. So stressful.

We had our AOS interview today . Officer handed us a letter stating he needs more time to review our case . Later today our case status said we didn’t attend our interview 😩 we were definitely there lol the officer reviewed the application I submitted and ask my husband all the security questions . Nothing was asked about our relationship . We have a child together B6389BD7-C424-4927-AFD0-4D505F24960B.thumb.jpeg.1cf796fe9e32b1f1cab0b445d134b53c.jpegso maybe that’s why ??  My concern is the no show part . Will this delay the decision? What can I do ?

This was at Los Angeles Field office

My wife and I had our interview November 1st. We still didn’t hear back. They told us they would let us know in 30-60 days. We weren’t given any letter. Is this letter given to almost everyone. This waiting is so stressful. I’m freaking out.

IOs can't approve unless it ends up being a supervisor who interviews you.

IOs will say they have approved you but they do not have the authority. They can only recommend you for approval.

GC approval and issuance can take up to 120 days.

Oh okay. Thank you for the reply. It’s just nerve racking. Especially when you look on the internet and you read that some people got approved at the interview. Thanks again.

  6. My wife is from Panama. We got married on the K-1 visa. After we filed for AOS. We went to our green card interview yesterday in Philadelphia. We waited 2 hours and then they called us in. The lady was really nice and laid back. She really didn’t ask us any questions or request anything like photos or phone bills or joint bank accounts. She asked us about how we met and how’s it been going. Then she asked my wife what’s my name, our address, her parents name. She then asked about if she had her visa that she originally came here on which was a j visa before we applied for the K-1 visa. She didn’t have that on her. So the lady just told us to email her that when got home to make sure she was in compliance with that visa. That was the end of our interview. It was 5 maybe 10 minutes long. She didn’t say anything to us except have a good day. We got home and emailed what she asked for. She emailed back that day and said “you are good with that too. Thanks. I’ll give you my decision in 30-60 days”. My wife and I were pretty disappointed that we didn’t get an answer right then and there given we heard stories of people getting an approval right at the interview.

Is this normal that they don’t give you an answer right then and there or should we be worried?

You must send a copy of the original and a translation. The translation can be done by any person that knows both languages and can write down a statement saying they know both languages. I did my own translation.

Also, do I need to doing anything special or can She just write the translation on a blank page in Microsoft Word?

  8. Hi everyone, my wife and I filed for AOS a few months ago. We got a RFIE in the mail. Requesting a copy of her birth certificate. She’s from Panama so her birth certificate is in Spanish. In that paper that the USCIS mailed us about the RFIE, it mentioned at the end of the 2 pages they sent me it said something about if you submit documents in any language other then English that we need to submit the original copy in the foreign language and a complete translation and that the translator needs to certify that the translation is complete and accurate and that he/she is competent to translate the paper to English. So does this mean that I need to take my wife’s birth certificate to a certified translator to get it translated into English or can I just send the USCIS her birth certificate in Spanish????

I am late arriving to this thread but hoping you can share how yours went!

I am about to file for Aos. Married within the 90 days but filing way outside I-94 expiration! Curious as to what to expect? Thanks!

Hi, sorry for the last response. I’ve been pretty busy lately. But my filing went okay. I’m still in the process of them reviewing it. They did not give me any problems about filing after the 90 days. There is no actual timetable for you to file as long as you got married within the 90 days which you did so you fulfilled the K-1 visa requirements. You shouldn’t have any problems. Good luck!!!

The answer to that is technically "Yes" but answering "No" is not an issue since it's not a material misrepresentation.

Technically yes, but not an issue for Immediate Relatives: https://www.uscis.gov/policy-manual/volume-7-part-b-chapter-8

A pending I-485 would result in a period of stay authorized by the Secretary of Homeland Security.

Okay, yea I thought so but I wasn’t sure exactly how it worked. But for another question in part one. Question 24. It says “what’s your current immigration status(if it has changed since your arrival)?”       Would I put overstayed or current?

Marriage certificate shows the name before the marriage, because that's what you must write on the marriage license. Some states allow the couple to write down the new name on the marriage license, but most don't have that. So she can literally sign with her new name and give her new name everywhere.

Like Jorge dig said. There's no process to change the name besides filling out a marriage license and getting married. That's the name change document.

Everything else you mentioned should be called UPDATING the name, on the IDs/SSC/job system, etc.

    Okay great. Thanks guys.

Hi everyone, so my wife and I just got our marriage certificate in the mail and we are preparing form I-485. Should my fiancé change her last name to mine before we file or after we file for AOS? Or does it not matter and just while filling out the form... put my last name and under the other names section put what will be her maiden name once we change her name???
I just don’t want it to cause any problems for us.

    thank you

Just for clarification guys, my wife did not change her name yet.  But we are going to be during this process. Like in the next week. On our marriage certificate. It has my wife’s maiden name on it. I don’t know if this will change anyone’s advise? Should I still just put her new married name while filling out the form???

Before.  If she is going to use your last name, then she needs to start filling out all AOS paperwork using her married name. Then, the Green Card will be issued in her married name.

So we don’t actually have to go to like the social security office to officially change her name? We just have to fill out the AOD form with her married name??

  15. Hi guys. Since the last time I was on here my fiancé arrived from Panama  and we are coming to the end of our 90 days. We were planning a big wedding but with covid back on the rise and my family getting hit with the big C. we were forced to change plans. Now we have only a week left for our 90 days. We are getting married in 2 days on Saturday 01/16/2021. Our 90 days is over on 01/23/2021. I’m assuming that we need a copy of our marriage certificate when filing for adjustment of status. I also know that it may take about 2 weeks to get our marriage certificate back in the mail. Will the USCIS give us a hard time since we are applying for the

I-485(adjustment of status) after our 90 days???  Any info will help. Thank you

  16. I was checking the case status on me and my fiancé’s case. And it changed from “At NVC” to “In Transit” and then to “Ready”. What does the status “Ready” mean??? I’m confused because I took it as the embassy in Panama got our case and that we were ready to schedule our interview. We emailed the embassy and we gave them our case number and then they replied by asking for a few for a few documents and that they will send us the stuff for my fiancé to get her medical exams and they said that once they receive the results and documents that they schedule her interview. My fiancé got her medical exams and sent the documents last Friday. She got an email today from the embassy saying they didn’t receive our physical paperwork from the NVC yet. So I’m just wondering what this “Ready” status actually means?? I’m just confused now.

Are you selecting "immigrant" as your visa type? If not, there is your mistake.

Fees do not have to be paid for a file to be sent to an embassy.
