Hey everyone! So I was supposed to fly to Mexico last Saturday, but after getting nervous about the increasing number of cases I have actually taken a different approach. I changed my KLM flight from Mexico to Seoul, South Korea where there are currently no restrictions with the UK or US. However, it does require staying in a government quarantine facility (a hotel by the airport for £65 a day) for 14 days where you can't leave your room. Food and WiFi is included, though if you're a fussy eater or have dietary requirements I would advise against it (or bring lots of snacks!). It's a long empty flight, and totally the wrong direction, but the Covid count is significantly less than Mexico. If all goes to plan, I'll be flying into the US in 10 days!

We considered South Korea as well, but I couldn’t afford the $100/night for the government assigned room. I’m sure the food will be pretty good though! My favorite sushi restaurant plays Korean tv and it’s pretty entertaining.

So guys, I am in Mexico City right now  Landed few hours ago, I am at my accommodation now!

I flew from Paris with AeroMexico. At the check-in they did not ask me anything about why I was going to Mexico and only checked the temperature before boarding. Flight was cool and, as flights are not full, I could take 3 seats and get some sleep (a lot of turbulence thought, scary for me who hates flying haha).
I arrived at 3am in Mexico CIty. As soon as I stepped out of the airplane they checked temperature again.

At immigration I handled my passport and the immigration form filled out and they asked me absolutely nothing (maybe because I have been in Cancun last year? I dont know). I had a whole speech ready that, thank God, I did not have to use (i was freaking out haha).

For me it worked super smoothly!
I got an apartment in Polanco, which is super cool, even gym and swimming pool are opened at the building.

I am in Mexico City until 11th, then fly to meet my fiancee in Cancun and fly from there to Salt Lake City on 18th.
I will keep you posted on the 18th.

Well, I hope my experience have given you so hope

P.S. Something that i was not expecting is the altitude sickness. Mexico City is 2.250 meters above sea level, so I had some difficulties breathing in the first few hours, it seems ok now!!

Please allow me to step in, I am using sendmybag.com to ship 2 large suitcases and it costs me around 300 bucks for the 2 of them (up to 30 kilos each). Shipping takes around 3-4 working days - they use DHL - and it’s a door-to-door delivery service

I believe there are some posts/threads in the forum where people talk about their sendmybag experience

Keep us updated and good luck!

I am still deliberating the same journey but more likely on 10 June. I’d be really interested to hear how your flying experience is.

We will certainly be travelling with luggage however I have drawn the line at my fiancé’s golf clubs because I think that’s just taking the p*** really 😂

    (2) That's kind of what I was thinking - if they were going to, they probably would have by now!

I think I'll be attempting the LHR -> AMS -> MEX journey on the 6th. Trying to work out whether it's worth taking my luggage or getting it shipped (which will cost more, take longer, but might increase my chances!)

There are so many things to gamble! 😅  Wishing everyone luck who's attempting it this week!

Shipping only takes a few days and allows you to fly with a cheaper airline because you don't have to deal with luggage restrictions, so you'd save on flights.

    1. I believe @Smokey Bear did

    2. No one knows for sure. It could happen, it could not happen. The way I see it is they have been focusing on land borders all this time, and air travel has never been affected. Also, Mexico wants to revive their tourism industry. First for domestic tourists and then for American tourists. That gives me hope they won't expand the ban to air travel.

I MADE IT!!! POE was a breeze!!! Absolutely no problems traveling from Mexico into the US with a K1 visa!! Wow I’m so relieved right now it’s insane. What an adventure! I really hope all of you can make it into the US too!! I would definitely recommend traveling to Mexico! My POE was Charlotte btw, nearly empty. It was super fast

It's such a scary gamble. 😞My visa was valid for three years, but the issue is more about my job offer being retracted if I'm not there to start (which will void the visa). My partner is a US citizen, which is another huge incentive for me to make it across as soon as possible.

I have my fingers crossed that your fiance can make it over in time! I'm so sorry you're going through this. It really is such a crazy time.
