  1. Happy New Year Everyone!

First holiday in the US was very cold. It was a snowy New Year here.....snowing all day long....17 C below zero...never got that low in PI.... :o

I ended up curled in bed the following day.....snow turning to ice.....grrrrrrrr....

Another Filipina arrived here in our place a day after Jan. 1............just in time for the snow to turn into ice....she said she don't want to come out yet.....so cold for her...and for me too...

Hope everyone is having fun with the snow too! :D

  2. UPDATE! UPDATE!

I finally received my EAD Card in the mail yesterday!

    Horayyyyy! :dance::dance::dance:

    :dance::dance: Congraaaats! :-)

What kinda job do u wanna get?

Hubby wants me to work at home, so I hope to find one. Anyone knows anything or is currently working at home?

We too received a notice from CRIS that our case was transferred to CSC last December 20. I've read that usually no interview in cases like this......we hope so.....crossing our fingers....

Congratulations to all who got their GC and EAD. Good luck to those who are scheduled for interview.

    Happy Holidays Everyone!

  3. I also agree......my husband and I spend as much time together and on his day off we are always together.

My husband and I also pray everyday not only for us but for those Fil_Am couples like us to love and care each other everyday and always.

Short stories: Before my husband and I met...he has a neighbor who was married to a Filipina. He constantly beat her up and after 25 years she finally divorced him.

Another Filipina who used to work in the company where he now works, also was a battered wife and now they are divorced but somehow she ended up somewhat like a part-time prostitute and she is in her early fifties now. Last week she went to the company to ask for a reference for a new job. My husband told her that he married a Filipina and she said to him....take good care of her and don't destroy her; do not be like my ex-husband.

Life is so short and full of mysteries and surprises, you never know what will happen next. Be glad you have each other and cherish every moment while you can.

Say how much you love each other as often as you can, who knows it might be the last time you ever say it ...let it be your last words. (L):luv:(L)

  4. Hi everyone! I am not sure if we are a September or October filer. Sent AOS September 24, arrived at Chicago lockbox on the 28th. We received a receipt notice on October 3rd. Anyway, as I scanned this forum I found others with somewhat similar AOS timeline as us.

By the way, I received another e-mail from CRIS today:

Application Type: I765, APPLICATION FOR EMPLOYMENT AUTHORIZATION

    Current Status: Approval notice sent.

On December 7, 2007, we mailed you a notice that we have approved this I765 APPLICATION FOR EMPLOYMENT AUTHORIZATION. Please follow any instructions on the notice. If you move before you receive the notice, call customer service.

    ----------------------------

In the previous e-mail, I have been informed of the EAD Card Production Ordered status.

I don't received the hard copy of these notices yet as well as the EAD card.

Is it okay to start looking and applying for a job now? Or should I wait until I will have my EAD card on-hand before starting anything? What do you think?

I am just so excited to work!

    Any words of wisdom please........??!!!!!

  6. In the Philippines, after a marriage a Filipina takes her maiden family name as her middle name and her husband's family name as her new family name. Here in the US, it is not the case...as I found out later on.

My maiden family name is very important to us and I don't want to give it up....hehehhe :)

After we got married, my husband went to SSA first to apply for my SSN, before filing AOS. The SSA lady asked me if I really want to put the name I have written in my SSN application. I said yes and then she asked for my green card. I said no we have not filed AOS yet. Then she said well, I have to use your maiden name for she have to go to the immigration record, my records should be the same. I have to come back later to have it changed when I will have my green card.

Huh! I told her that it is very ridiculous to still be using my maiden name when in fact I am already married. And speaking of having the same records, my immigration records and the US marriage records are no longer the same the day I was married. I vehemently told her that I want to use my husband's family name as my new family name and my maiden family name as my middle name. Which in fact, will be the same with an official US database record, the US record of marriages. Well, she smiled and said okay, I will do that then.

So, my SS card shows my first name, my new middle name which is my maiden family name, and my new family name (my husband's).

When we went to DMV, they used the same name in my SS card.... no questions asked. :D

Seems like some SSA offices are just different from the other. Some clerks may or may not have an in-depth knowledge of their agency polices, rules and regulations....a conclusion I have made based on the different experiences vj members have posted.

Good luck for those who are all waiting and Congratulations for those who got their Visa and GC!

I am sulking with the cold weather here in the Northwest....well they say it is normal weather but not for me... :(

  10. Hi Northstar492006,

We stayed at Cherry Blossoms Hotel both for my medical (July 2007) and interview (August 2007). It is 5 minutes walk to St. Lukes and 10 minutes walk to the US Embassy. It is also a few steps to the Robinson's mall. So no worries if you need to get groceries, a place to eat (restaurants and fast foods), and shopping. And it is cheaper too, room rates range from 1515, 1950 and up. Breakfast is included, 2 single beds (twin beds) or 1 queen/king size bed in a room. Room is for single/double occupancy.

    Hope this helps. :luv:

  11. :ot: For those who actually went for their interview already, between waiting in lines very early morning, interview process and paying your fees to Delbros... how long did it take you over-all? :clock:

Thanks all! Congratulations to all who got approved and Good luck to all who will be doing their interview soon!

    :ot2:

Based from my experience, I was finished at 11:30a.m.....half-day only.
