  1. Glad to see there J1 questions on VJ! I have a cousin in a J1, exoired yesterday 2.3.09. He has a 30day grace period to stay in the US. He will now begin the "no objection waiver" process since he is subject to the 2 year rule. My question is: Can he begin the process now while still in the US and continue abroad? Since he obviously will leave the country in March. He plans on putting his previous emplyers address for all his mail.

Is this ok? or should he begin this process while in his home country?

  2. As far as I know in NY state once you become a permanent resident you MUST apply for a NY state drviers license(I think withinn 30 days). We live in upstate NY and I used to drive on my Australian DL but if you go to the website it will tell you what to do once you become a resident. They did not ask me for my AUDL, so I did not offer it. I had to do a written test to get my permit, then a 5 hour driver education course before I was allowed to sit for my on rode test. Check out the DMV website it has all the info you need.

Thanks for your response. I did check the website and it clearly says if you become a NYS resident then you need to take a written test, a 5 hour driver education course and and surrender your foreign license at the road test examiner. The surrendering part sounds so wrong. So confusing....

    thanks again

One more thing.... we think that perhaps (hopefully) they dont ask him to surrender his German license because since his becoming a resident status is for only 2 years. Just a thought.

  4. Please help....

My husband has a German drivers license and would like to drive in NYS. We learned that a valid driver license from another country is also valid in NYS. And that if you become a resident of NYS you can apply for a NYS drivers License BUT would have to surrender you foreign license. Well we do not want to surrender his German drivers license (even though the DMV in NYS holds it and we can request it back) because we travel often to Germany and drive there.

So after speaking with the DMV in NYS they said to contact the German Emabassy and get a translation of his German drivers license and then he would be able to drive. BUT to always carry both his German Drivers license and translation form at all times... and that would allow him to legally drive in NYS. Has anyone on vj done this?

OR, apply for an international drivers permit which is a translation of a foreign drivers license.

Has anyone heard of this? Surrendering your foreign license? Translating your foreign license? Basically how have German's who moved to NYS handled this in the past.

Your help and reponses are greatly appreciated. thanks in advance.

  5. Hi VJ

We are writing to see if anyone has experienced the same...

Our AOS was approved June 21, 2008... the welcome letter was sent to our old address, even though we submitted the change of address paperwork in a timely fashion. Well, after months of not receiving the GC because we were told we had to wait, we finally were told to submit an I 90 form. We submitted it on Oct. 3rd 2008 however we still have nothing in hand, no receipt notice for the I 90, nothing! After calling yesterday, 12/30 we were told that I 90 "b" or "d" forms do NOT get receipt notices sent. And that we need to wait 6 months after submission of the I 90 to call back. INCREDIBLE, since this was at no fault of ours.

Question, has anyone experienced the same? Do I 90 forms really have no receipt notices sent for tracking? And has anyone heard of this 6 month waiting period? We just want to make sure we recieved the correct information before calling again.

Thanks so much for your help.

  6. Serously! Should we worry? While we were on vacation in Germany we rec'd an email on June 16 "welcome to the US." So exciting but still not card in the mail. We never received another email.... stating card production or such. Anyway we did have a change of address mid May. We called and filled it out online and I (petitoner) also filled out my form. When We got back from Vacation I (petioner) receieved a change of address acknowledgement in the mail. He did not receive anything, No welcome letter, no approval letter, NOTHING! Should we worry? Last touch was June 27.

  7. WHAT DO YOU THINK??

On Wednesday (5/28), we called USCIS to inform them of change of address

On Thursday (5/29), we filled out AR 11 online and mailled 1865

TODAY (5/30 at 12am), Received an email from CRIS saying the follow:

*** DO NOT RESPOND TO THIS E-MAIL ***

The last processing action taken on your case

    Receipt Number: XXXXX

Application Type: I485 , APPLICATION TO REGISTER PERMANENT RESIDENCE OR TO

    ADJUST STATUS

Current Status: Case Transfered to Another Office for Processing

On April 1, 2008, we transferred this case I485 APPLICATION TO REGISTER

PERMANENT RESIDENCE OR TO ADJUST STATUS to our CALIFORNIA SERVICE CENTER....

WE HAD ALREADY RECEIVED THIS EMAIL! ON April 1st...

We also have a touch for 5/29....

COULD THIS BE BECAUSE OF THE ADDRESS CHANGE??? I can understand the touch for the address change but NOT the email... this system is strange!

  8. :crying: :crying:

My husband's AOS hasn't been touched since they received our rfe. I am scared now. :crying:

Seriously, If i could go back in time I would have just stuck to CR-1.. K-3 visa has been nothing but a pain in the butt.

I don't know what they are even planning to do... what do you guys think.. will i just get an interview letter or could a transfer is still a possibility?

I think there is no way for any of us to understand the system. I would say, sit tight and know you have us to wait with you .... you are not alone. And dont worry. :)

  9. Thank you SOOO much.

Also, the uscis lady on the phone said she could take the change of address on the phone or we could do it online HOWEVER we would STILL need to fill out the AR11 form. At the end of the conversation I confirmed with her that since she took the change of address from us on the phone (for which she gave us a referal#) we just needed to now mail in the AR 11 form.... she said yes. DOes this sound correct to you? (I feel like they give conflicting information)

OH!! And it would have been nice if she told ME I had to fill out the I 865!!! Incredible!

    THANKS!

  10. Hi friends!

My husband and I just moved. This morning we called uscis to inform them of our address change for his pending AOS and they told us to mail in form AR 11. We need help in answering some of the questions:

    1) I am in the United States as a:? Should he put OTHER "pending adjustment of status" or "K1 visa"

    2) I work for or attend school at:? Should he put the job he was just hired at? Or does this not apply?

    3) Port of Entry into the U.S.? JFK, New York?? right?

    4) If not a permanent Resident, my stay in the U.S. expires on: DOES HE PUT HIS K1 visa Expitation date?

And finally, do I (his American citizen) wife have to also fill out a form? I-865?? The lady on the telephone never said I had to fill out a form... she only said AR 11, however I realize some Vjer say the alian fills out AR11 and spouse fills out I 865.

Please help and sorry if these questions have been answered in the past.

    Best
