Stephenc111 got a reaction from Jordanian Bride in Montreal embassy EB-2 interview wait time
This is for my son's follow-to-join (I-824) to my EB2 GC, which I got in Nov 2018 through AOS. The interview went well, as expected. It's done in 30 minutes. some basic questions asked, and that was it. My son was told that they intend to issue the IV in 2-3 weeks. Hopefully it is 2-3 days in actual.
Like to thank everyone in this forum for sharing the info. Otherwise this 2 year 4 months wait would be completely in dark.
Below is our journey I like to share and hopefully is useful to someone in similar situations.
1) This EB IV is technically sponsored by my employer, even if it is I-824 and I have already got my GC.
- so you can not change employer until this is done.
- or you have to file a new I-824, and start all over again
- for this interview, my company's immigration lawyer couriered him the Verification of Employment letter, and I send him last few pay stub as proof that I still work there.
2) I could go through the family sponsorship route. Because of the delay, I applied for I-130 based F2A since my son was 17 at the time
-I submitted an application in July 2020 (my DQ date was Nov 2019), and I have not heard anything this far. Don't care now
- and even if I-130 is approved, the DQ date will be re-set anyway
3) Potential conflict with non-IV
- my son got accepted at UCSD and Waterloo for EE, and in September 2021, there was no hope of IV. Of course I want him to come to California and join me.
- my immigration lawyer advised that my son can not apply for F1 while waiting for IV - that's wrong. I ignored her advice.
- So I asked my son to pay for Waterloo's tuition and start enrollment first, but he did not do that - that's foolhardy.
- I am very worried that when applying for F1, if asked about any pending immigration petition, you have to disclose and be honest about it. And they may decline the F1 because of that. That's why Waterloo is the backup.
- fortunately, F1 for Canadian born student is so easy (at the airport), and fed questions was asked, not including that question I was worried about. So he didn't have to make such disclosure.
- because he has been in US for a while, I also asked him o get the US Police Report (requirement is stay over 6 months) just in case - not quite 6 months for him
- and during the interview today, they did not ask about the F1
and I wish all of you good luck and shorter wait for the interview!

The sole purpose of the list is to track the progress by DQ date, based on the input from the limited participant.
that’s the net results. Assuming the process is fair, as long as we get feedback from limited data point, it is the best benchmark on where things are.
Trying to figure out how many people ahead of you and how fast it moves per month per category is Impossible unless you are an insider of the consulate

I wonder about that myself. Which employer would wait 2-3 years and still keep the job offer for you?
in my case, I am in US and already have the GC. This is follow-to-join application for my son, which graduated from high school just now. Since I got the GC through EB, he is also in EB. Not family class.

looks like they are trying hard to catch up, given the record high issuance in March.
still have doubt on the EB number. Really EB? (And EB in Oct/Nov 2020?)

Stephenc111 got a reaction from Dip_eb in Montreal embassy EB-2 interview wait time
I disagree with the logic. Don’t scare yourself unnecessarily.
Under normal circumstance, we need to assume the immigration visa is under a dynamic equilibrium. the rate of case flowing-in is equal to rate of case closed. There is always a backlog steady. That’s why there is a average 8-month waiting period.
the reason for the backlog to move up by 400,000 is because there was no action for almost one year. 400,000 maybe the normal number of immigration through visa route (family based plus employment based)
- most of employment based GC is issued through status adjustment ( such as me, since I work and live in US already. My application here is follow-to-join case for my son)
- most of family based GC is issued through visa route, since most likely the applicants are outside US.
so in case of Montreal, I think the new waiting time for any new case is 20 months (8 month plus the lost 12 months), if Montreal consulate RESUME the same processing rate as pre-Covid
this is a big assumption of course.
Based on the record just before March 2020, people with Sep/19 Document Complete Date (the basis of the queue) was getting appointment in March for April 2020.
So if everything resume to normal speed right away, you can guess when you would get appointment notice. for example
- for me, DC is Nov/19, I hope get get notice 2 months from now, in May, for June appointment.
- if your DC is June/20, you would expect notice in Dec, for Jan/22
lets see if that is true.
