    How did it go?

Interview went on smoothly. The lady officer asked the basic questions about I-485, verified ID cards and passports. She asked how we met and how many times my spouse has been to US before this. Since we were adjusting from B2 visa, she asked when did we decide to apply for i-485. This question was tricky one and had to be answered smartly... my wife told the officer that she was planning to go back after few weeks of visit and then Covid situation happened and the airlines canceled the tickets (we had the airline cancelation email printout). We waited for situation to improve but then we were running out of time on I-94. So we decided to apply just before we ran out of time on i-94.

We had lots of documents but she never asked for anything. Just before leaving, she asked if we want to provide any documents...not sure what to give.. I gave her additional pictures of the relationship. At the end she said she would recommend us for the GC.

So USCIS has two case status pages:

    1) https://egov.uscis.gov/casestatus/landing.do which is usually updated quicker than the one below and

    2) https://myaccount.uscis.gov/ which is the one that I think you are referring to

As far as I know, I only have access to the documents tab for my I-130 because I filed that online. For the other paper cases which I have added manually, I am only able to see case status and case history. I don't think it is possible to see a documents tab for paper filed cases.

I normally check my.uscis.gov... you are correct ... for i-130 ... I see the documents tab. The reason I posted is that the other I day I was speaking to tier 1 agent and she said download the NOA from your USCIS account. From the time the agent told me to download from my.uscis.gov account, I am trying to scratch my head to figure our how to do that. May be she gave me wrong info.

  3. So I finally got the NOA after 50 days in the mail. I have an USCIS online account and when I added the I-485 paper case ... it shows the status but not related documents such as NOA. It looks like I can add anybody's paper case  (provided you know their MSC number) and it will show me the status. How do I get the account to be linked to my case where I can see the documents tab?

Seems like the filing category selected was wrong on Part 2 of the 485. We had selected 2b. but after reading the instructions it seems like a stepchild is considered a child of a US Citizen for immigration purposes so we selected 2a (as selected on the I-130). Also the I-864 needed to be one each per person/child. We had submitted the one prepared for my wife. Also on the 864 on Part 3, Q1, you do not check the box 2 and do not list anyone else since they will be principal immigrants and require a separate I-130, I-485 and I-864. This time we will also submit 765 in order to get social security cards for the kids. Thankfully, USCIS rescinded the I-944 for now and they recommend not sending the 944 for now (direct statement on the USCIS site).

I may be wrong on my assertions above and wouldn't mind a second set of eyes on this.

    Thanks,

My case is similar, submitted my wife's and step-Child's application while they were on B2 visa. I-94 is expiring in two days :( I submitted the whole AOS package on Jun 20th, reached lockbox on 24th....till today no news... checks have not been cashed. Sent emails to lockbox, contacted USCIS tier 1 and 2 reps... they couldn't find anything in the system. What else can I do? anyone any suggestions?

I forgot to also mention: For form I-131, it generates big barcodes at the bottom of each page. They are generated with JavaScript, so you must at some point re-enable JS on that form and change some text on each page to get it to refresh the barcodes....

oh man ...  When I was reviewing the printed form before sending, I found mistakes. I corrected the form and printed ONLY the page that had the mistake and added to the existing printed forms. Looks like this has put me in trouble...I haven't received the receipt even after 40 days of submission 😌

It seems the beginning of virtually every process I've taken with USCIS has had some problem. The original petition for my wife took weeks and weeks beyond the expected turn around time. I'm hoping for a similar situation now for my step-son's AOS on a K2 follow to join.

    June 13, 2020 - Mailed I-485 packet* along with I-131 and I-765

June 16, 2020 - USPS confirms packet delivered

So far no other updates. I paid by check and have not seen it hit my bank. I've seen most people here have experienced 15-25 day waits. Today is day 44... I finally gave in and called USCIS and the woman I spoke to was just lovely, She told me "You're not the only one filing paperwork", "Well you'll just have to keep waiting because you don't have a receipt number". Getting her to escalate to tier 2 was like pulling hens teeth. I'm scheduled for a call back in 761 hours!

Anyone else having an excessive delay? This is at the Chicago Lock Box...

I am in same boat... mailed my application along with my daughter's application (485/131/944/864) on Jun 20, reached the Chicago Lockbox on 24 ... sent checks...still no word from USCIS and checks have NOT been cashed... I spoke to a tier two agent today and she said that either the application might have been rejected or just wait till 45 days. Chicago lockbox is responsible for communications. Waiting game is extremely stressful.

  7. I am contemplating on applying for AOS too...but not sure how to do.

background - wife and kid traveled to US in feb 2020, with return data of Jun - 2020 (with no intention of staying longer or doing AOS). Last week, we got email from Airline that tickets are cancelled. In addition, the are no flights to home country and the airports are not expected to open until mid-to-late Jun 2020. We had already started NVC process and had paid the 1V fees... and were in process of filing out DS260.

@portorusa Do you know if we can just apply for new AOS to USCIS? What happens to fees paid during NVC process and what happens to NVC process/steps?

Appreciate feedback from the community members.

  8. I am the petitioner. My wife and her daughter (beneficiaries) are visiting me and are in USA now. I-130 was approved in Feb'20 and I was about to complete the NVC stage process before all this COVID-19 mess. If I go through the normal route, NVC stage will be done by mid-April and she would need to go back to India for counselor processing and interview. Looking at the current COVID scenario, I am worried about travel and risks.

So for last few days I am contemplating why not get AOS here instead going through counselor processing? Any thoughts or opinion about this? Any suggestions on how to go about applying for AOS and not go through counselor processing? Any risks? Thanks in advance for any guidance.

Congratulations, that's amazing!! I filed just one day before you on the 15th and got my NOA1 on the 18th! I just went to check my status and they DID update my status yesterday, but it just says the same thing as the last update in November:

    January 7, 2020

    In Process

Your benefit request has been accepted and is under review.

Hopefully they aren't about to send me an RFE! :(  This waiting game is no fun! But I am happy to know that more July people are getting approved! :)
