    Hello Everyone,

I have juste received my SSN card through the postmail! 🤪

On Sept 24th, I called (one more time) my local SSA office in California, praying for not having the same man on line (who had been so not helpful and negative (he was the one who told me to call Department of State and USCIS) - what a waste of time). Thankfully I had a new person, who was super helpfull and asked me to send copies of my documents (passeport, visa (since I don't have my Green Card yet)) + form SS5. I also add a bill showing that I am living in California and my marriage certificate (I guess, an old reflexe from the Visa process...).

He told me that once he would receive the docs, I would get a phone call from them to schedule an appointment in person.

But today, I received the card, without having to meet with them in person. I am so happy.

Now, I have to receive the green card... it has been 72 days since I paid for the fees and 2 months after my POE.

I hope you are well, take care.

    Alix

I called again about two weeks ago for my husband, all they did was give him an appointment for December 14th. They said that the start of New Jersey doesn't allow people to send me documents. So we will have to wait.

But I'm really happy for you!!!!

Does anybody know how long its take from “ card being produced” to receiving it ? My status just changed today . Quite happy.

If it's your green card, It would begin with "card being process"(about 3-4 weeks) to "card being shipped" (2 weeks) and then "card received". And this information is based on my husband case.

My husband arrived on August 13th and still has not received his green card or the social security card.  I'm not too concerned with he green card yet but the SS# has been asked for by many companies so I called last week and made an appointment.  We have a few close to us but I chose the one in Lancaster.  To speak to representative you press 0 and I was able to speak to someone over the phone.

His appointment was today and we were the only ones there (other than the workers).  The security guard was really nasty and tried to make us leave until one of the employees came over asking if my husband was Ahmed..LOL  They keep the door locked we had to wait outside until the guard let us in.

The appointment was quick and simple he entered everything in his system and said we were all clear and should have the card in at least two weeks.

We filled out to receive it at my address on the ds260 but my husband was not in their system.

Im going to try calling again tomorrow

I arrived in the US on 3rd August on an IR1 visa.

Called the USCIS on 18th August and they said my GC was 'In Production', they knew no information on the status of SSN but I did click to send on DS260 form when applying online.

I'm kind of in limbo as far as what to do! The SSN has not yet arrived..

I have a couple of questions:

     - What is the way to word it on the phone to get through to a real person? Every time I've called you seem to need to enter a SSN which I obviously don't have!

     - Though it is fine for me to work with my 551 visa, how can I get paid without a SSN?

     - In order to get paid, I need a bank account which I also can't do without SSN. Are there ways around this?

    Please help!

    C.

We are all in the same situation. My husband been here since March 16th, and only received his GC. I do understand that many people may say that he is able to work with his 551 visa, but every job is asking for his SSN. When I call the SSN office they tell me he has to reapply for it, and that it has to be in-person (but again all there offices are close, God knows till when).

He was able to open a bank account with Chase. All he needed was two forms for ID (passport and GC) and proof of address ( the letter that the GC came in).

He should make a phone call to your local SSA Office and speak to the agent. They should be able to take all the relevant information over the phone and will then tell him how to get the required documents to them. I have heard a few people say that they have been able to go to the door of the office and hand over the documents in person. This wasn’t available at my local office so I had to post them in. make the call and request to be assisted to apply for  a SSN.

Ok, thank you so much. We will be making that call on Monday.

I had to send my Green card and birth certificate to my local SSA office last month, in order to enrol in Medicare. I sent them priority overnight with USPS signature and tracking and included a prepaid addressed return priority express envelope for them to use to send them back to me. It was the only way I could get it done .. I didn’t like having to do it .. but there were no options. I followed up by phone to ensure it was into their system and they confirmed it was. She could also see the note about the return envelope. My documents arrived  back to me about 7 days after I sent them.. and I breathed a huge sigh of relief.  And I am successfully enrolled in Medicare.. another big sigh of relief

Can my husband do that to get his social security card?

Anybody know if having the passport with the stamp

alone will be enough to get a driver license at least?
    still no social

no green card after 3 months waiting

I live in New Jersey and my husband can't get his license without his social. He cant do nothing without the information.

No still nothing... obviously nothing have been sent to SSA even if I asked for it on my DS260 and at my interview. They keep telling me to send my passeport in order to give me a SSN .. I'll have no choice I think as we don't know when the offices are gonna open back . What about you ?

Nothing yet. I think we many just send his passport to see what they will say. We can't wait till they open the social security office, he wants to start working.

Nope, and I don't expect it to come automatically anymore.  We called the local SSA office.  My husband is not in the system.  We have to apply in-person; not even mailed-in original passports are allowed.  In California, there is no tentative date for the SSA offices reopening, so we have no choice but to wait.

    Same here.

My husband arrived on March 21, 2020.  We also checked the box for the SSN card to be mailed automatically.  3+ months later...  No SSN card.  California SSA offices are still closed, but I learned his GC is arriving today.

I want to get his SSN, but it's so risky sending his original passport by mail.

Hey, has your husband received his SSN card? My husband has not.

At this point we just need to wait.

Thank you for your answer and these informations 🙂

USCIS told me few days ago that I am supposed to receive my GC within 30 days so from then I will wait on my SSN and see what happens .

Anytime, let me know of any updates please and I will do the same.

I have exactly the same problem ..

i arrived in USA 1 month ago and I asked for SSN but they don’t have me in the system and in order to provide me a number they ask me to send my passport . Not a copy, my passport . I don’t know when they will open back and I am worrying too ..

Yep, that's the same thing they told me that I would have to send them form ss5 with his passport. But I called the social security office again the lady was really nice and helpful, she told me just to wait 2 more weeks because immigration normally takes care of sending the Social Security card after sanding  the  residence card.

  14. My husband has 4 months in the US already, due to the Covid-19 he has not received his social security card or resident card/ID . So I call USCIS trying to get any info or updates, the representative told me that his resident card should be arriving by July 7th but she also told me that she doesnt see anything about his Social Security card, she told me that I have to fill out form I-765 for him.

I thought that form I-130 gives him a social security card? Or do I really have to fill out form I-765 (form cost $495)

Administrative processing. It’s a temporary “refusal” of the visa, until the remaining documents are submitted. Once the documents do reach the consulate, it is reviewed and then either fully approved and issued, or denied fully.

Oh ok I see. I hope its there already by Monday 😭😭😭
