    I’m sorry for your loss, and for the hardship you faced due to it.
     
    The letter itself looks fine
     
    I don’t know how strict USCIS is, but if it were me (and I’m neurotic) I would likely send proof of the situation with the letter, just to show it’s genuine, or at the very least, be prepared to show it at the interview.  Again, I don’t think it’s required, but it couldn’t hurt.

    I have no experience at all in this but your letter sounds sincere to me. I wonder of including proof would be valuable: ticket receipts, boarding passes, funeral receipt, that sort of thing.

    I think this letter is fine..we did the same thing and offered a mercy letter and they were very understanding..however we did have to have an I751 interview and they asked us again why we filed late and we told them and asked that accept our deepest apologies and it was ok.
