  1. Found interesting article on Covid shutdown and Naturalization disruption and the impact for elections 2020. Since Ohio opens in May 1st, it would be interesting to see if Oath Ceremonies will be conducted in a creative way like using virtual video sessions etc.

  2. Alex. This may be of interest to you. Just saw this news...

Looks like you applied passport before March 19 right. You should get it. Again, you just made it😀

Thank you! I actually received my passport last week! I got my Naturalization Certificate back as well.

      Thank God, I am done.

Once the situation is under control USCIS & DOS should resume normal operations.

      Keep me posted!

Congratulations Alex.  You narrowly made it during the last steps. You are all set now. Happy for you 😃

  3. Just saw new update on USCIS website. USCIS plans to begin reopening our offices on May 4, unless the public closures are extended further. This is expected. The country is expected to hit peak curve in the middle of April and 'social distancing' order expected till end of April.

  4. Just got USCIS email on this. "USCIS Temporary Office Closure Extended to April 7"

  5. Alex - This may be good news to you. I found this on travel.gov. You may have the option to pick up in person. You just made it   😃. The Oath ceremonies after yours missed it !

"If you applied and requested expedited service on or before March 19, 2020, we will honor our commitment of 2-3 weeks door-to-door for expedited service. If you applied in-person at a passport agency or center on or before March 19, 2020, the passport agency or center will contact you and ask if you want to pick-up your passport in person or have it mailed to you."

(If you are applying for or renewing a U.S. passport on or after March 20, 2020, we will not offer expedited service and routine service may be delayed.)

      Hi CT,

Yeah, I saw that. I am still waiting for my passport, so far the status says “in process”

You can only pick it up if you applied in person at a passport agency, I applied at a USPS.

Given the circumstances probably everything slowed down.
      how are you my friend?

Oh I see. I remember you applied through USPS. I am doing Ok but everything feels surreal. I planned lot of things to do after Citizenship and this was a shocker. Oh well. I guess I am luckier than many people out there suffering with this virus.  The Silver lining is that I have a job for now. Thanks for asking.
I really hope you get your passport soon to finish the loop !

  6. Just today I got letter (PDF) in my USCIS account that my Oath has been cancelled. The letter reads as below. It is comforting to get a letter like this to supplement the USCIS phone call to me. I guess it is waiting time again !

"This is to advise you that, due to unforeseen circumstances, we have had to cancel the previously scheduled Oath Ceremony on  XXX for the above applicant. We regret any inconvenience this may cause. We will advise you of any further action taken on this case, including any rescheduled interview appointment information, under separate notice. If you have any questions or comments regarding this notice or the status of your case, please contact the USCIS Contact Center toll free at1-800-375-5283. If you are hearing impaired, please call the USCIS Contact Center TDD at 1-800-767-1833."

  7. Just now saw the court's page and it appears that my Naturalization Oath ceremony is suspended.

"In accordance with General Order No. 2020-05, all court naturalization ceremonies have been suspended up to and including May 1, 2020. Please contact Customs and Immigration Service at 1-800-375-5283 to reschedule your oath."

I am trying to reach USCIS over phone but not able to get customer service.

Good Morning - I just got call from USCIS office informing that my Oath Ceremony on Mar20 at Carl B. Stokes Federal Court has been canceled. He said that I will be informed about new re-scheduled date in the mail. He didn't indicate when that would be. Didn't expect this roadblock at this last stage. Well, I guess that's life !

Nobody was expecting this. Everything is messed up due to COVID-19.

Hopefully everything will get better and the one on May 15 will be open.

Yeah. I think the government was advising against gatherings more than 10 people for next 2 weeks. If things improve, we may slowly see life restoring back to normal. These are unprecedented developments just in last 2 weeks.

  8. I guess this dependents on Nationality and I don't know the rules for other countries. However, for Indian citizen's, we are supposed to  apply for 'Renunciation of Indian Citizenship' right after getting USA citizenship.

  9. Congrats on getting Citizenship. My Oath is on Mar20. Just now Ohio governor announced that gatherings more than 100 people are banned. I don't know that many people show up in Oath. If it is less than 100, it probably will go on.

We had about 100 people at my ceremony, including family.

My friends in January had over 300. So I guess you'll find out soon. I hope it will take place as scheduled!

I hope so. They can easily split into 2 sessions and conduct it on the same day. There is no need for close contact between people or to sit close to each other.  We will see. You just made it on time 😃

  10. Good news on Oath date for you. I am wondering if Oath is usually 1 month from Interview or is there any chance it is earlier in some cases. Thanks

Hi Alex - My interview took place today and the application got approved. The officer didn't ask any of my Tax returns but went over question in N400 form. The USCIS status online also says approved Waiting for the Oath ceremony date ! The officer said it would within 1 month.
