I have a few concerns/questions here.
In most states there is a mandatory waiting period, after divorces are final, to marry again. I have never heard that period being as little as 2 days.
Secondly, does your state actually issue marriage licenses the same day? Most, I have heard have a 3 day turn around time.
Yes, I find this interesting, OP, please elaborate more.
I would now think from here you have to file a K-3 or a CR-1 as you are married and she is back in her home country.Agreed!

So how is it they we all came to meet our fiance(e)s/Spouses from the US/UK? I'm thinking a lot of people met online, but I bet just as many hadn't. I met must husband at a party when I was a student in Manchester.
By the way...greetings from Wrigleyville. I go out to Arlington Heights once a month or so to see a friend, and we always eat at Fuego, which is the best Mexican food I've ever had this side of the border (well, considering it is b/c I've never been south of the border :-p)
Nice! We live just around the corner in Dunton Tower. As soon as someone buys our house in the UK (see signature) we can a house out here. I can't wait to get out of this apartment!!!

My favorite line in Revenge of the Nerds goes something along the lines of:
Hot sorority chick: I didn't think nerds would be so good in bed
Lewis: Jocks only think about sports, nerds only think about sex.
LOVE this movie - Hot sorority chick = Miss Betty Childs

Just burn your draft card and go to Canada.this thread is all Greek to me
haha.
I think the only way would be to give up your Greek Nationality, assuming you are already a USC. If you are not - then obviously you can't be a man without a country! Are there any kind of exceptions for being excluded from performing service, such as being a resident overseas?
I have a mate from Finland who also had to do national service and often has nightmares that they lost his papers and he has to go back into the army

No - but we were going to until I found this site.
Same here! I actually spent $50 to download some sample forms. They were of course the exact same forms that were available on VJ. Oh well, what's 50 bucks in the grand scheme of things?!

I knew a guy at university who was as Greek as they come, but I think he was born in canada, so he only had a canadian passport. I believe he had Greek residency and basically he admitted to never getting his Greek passport to avoid the military. I am sure they are other forums on the internet you could search to find possible loop holes. Good luck!!

One of my friends at work just went to the Poconos Mountains with his wife.He said he liked the heart shaped bath tubs.
LOL thanks for the suggestion
Keep em coming!!!
We like the idea of the Grand Canyon as well.
mmm I would pass on the poconos.... The Grand Canyon was fun, but I'm not really a nature girl - I would've been happy with one night there. We did do a helicopter ride, which was fun. But take me back to my resort!!
-
We went to Palm Springs, CA - stayed at the Hyatt Grand Champions for 4 nights- beautiful resort. Then we drove from there to the Grand Canyon, it took about 8 hours and we made some stops along the way. We stayed 2 nights at the Thunderbird lodge (it was ok) and then onto Sedona staying at the Hilton for our final 2 nights. We then drove down to Phoenix to fly home.
Neither one of us had been to the southwest before. I would think other good suggestions are Hawaii, Napa Valley, Puerto Rico, US Virgin Islands. If we got married in the summer, I wouldve like to have gone to Santa Fe New Mexico.
Where did everyone else go?

I sent each of my friends who came to my wedding a group picture of all of us and me on my wedding day. It was a 5 x 7 picture in a $1 frame. I sent it via fedex and now, one of them got a bill for 15GBP, 30 times the actual value of the item! They wanted to charge them import and duty fees. Fedex says it is UK's Customs and Excise, I am still waiting to hear back. In any case, we are certainly NOT paying that! What a joke!!
-
haha too funny!! could you imagine if this girl had a fiance that was non USC and had to go through this process? "Excuse me US government employee, this delay is NOT according to THE plan. I want my interview date immediately, don't you realize I have a wedding to plan for?!" But then I suppose marrying a non USC would definitely not be a part of the plan!

Should I have included it in my AOS package with a made-up date?
Yes, but you can still submit it now. Just send it in with a copy of your NOA from your 485. I would do it, you don't know how long your GC is going to take and you already paid for the fee, you might as well take advantage of it.

Bridesmaids aren't the ones you have to worry about - it is the mother of the groom! At our wedding, his mother insisted she did not want her hair done and she wore it half up and half down tied with a scrunci - ugh!!
Forget the mother of the groom, what about the mother of the bride?!
Although really, why would you care how someone's hair was done?...
Mother of the Bride you can control. I didn't care how it was done, I just thought it would be nice if it looked like she had made some kind of effort. She wore her hair like she was going to the gym! It never ended up being a big deal, but I don't think she realized the type of effort people make for weddings (at least in my family).

DO NOT LEAVE! You'll be very sorry later on. If you want to travel this summer, I suggest they come over as soon as your visa is issued and adjust immediately. Hopefully your AP and/or GC will come through before then, but be prepared it doesn't.

Entered the USA 13th Jan
got married 15th Jan
Sent AOS off 17th Jan
not heard anything yet, no cheque cashing, no NOAa
but I did apply for an SSN in the Reno office with no problems

I received my NOAs on Jan 15th and had my biometrics done on Jan 30th..
but till now..my case still hasnt shown online
i cant even check if its touched or anything...
I think the setting of the bio appointment is the trigger.

Hello anyone in Cali?
We received 3 NOAs on 1/23 and receive nothing yet since then. I saw many people got there biometric letter already and was a bit worried. Is it common to take this long?
BTW, somehow i was unable to retrive any info by using those reciept numbers. Anyone had the same problems?
My three NOAs all start with MSC-XX-XXX-XXXXX
Yes, I had problems accessing them online as well. It took a week to 10 days for them to be visible online. No worries!
-
Awesome! Congrats! I'm hopefully we will have our EAD soon as well.
-
Anyone have any updates on their case thus far? I still haven't recieved any touches since my orginal submission on Jan 11. Hope they get moving =)
I have had several touches so far, but nothing since our bio appointment on the 1/25.

Never carry your SSN! Someone can steal your identity.

Yes, he needs to send proof of his interest income HOWEVER since this is foreign earned income it is exempt as long as it's below the threshhold. So what you need is a statement from the financial institution in question stating the amount of interest earned during the tax year, then the form 2555 to declare that income exempt.
Any income earned in the UK is exempt as long as it was below the threshhold ($~88k). Convert it to USD, declare it on your 1040A in the relevant spot for interest income, and fill out the 2555 so it will be exempt.
Is that correct I was under the impression that foreign earned income exemption only applied if you lived outside the US. If you are a US resident you claim the income tax paid overseas against US tax.
We are just arranging an appointment with the accountant for ours for this year to make sure we claim the tax paid on my UK pension the best way, so as to try an avoid State income tax on it as well.
I would never declare interest earned in a foreign account (not that I would ever have more than $88k earned in interest). But there is no way the US government would ever track it, besides, as I remember in the UK, when I earned my 4p of interested on my current account, there was always the 1p tax deduction

even if you were doing an UNPAID internship you're subject to a 10000 dollar fine.
Really? I never knew that. How is an unpaid internship different than volunteered work?
Which is Easier ?

The bus is usually the cheapest - but they are ALWAYS crowded and it is like hell! The train is almost always out if you have a morning interview because they don't get down from MAN til about mid day. If you can fly down and stay the day before, that is your best bet (but likely most expensive). If you are looking for cheap and secure, take the coach down the day before and stay over night. Going on the day is risky and you wouldn't want to have to reschedule your interview!
The medical we scheduled in the afternoon and I believe got the train - because if we are late/missed it, figured it was easier to just turn up and say "hi, im here!" Let us know what you decide.
