  1. Are the reasons for emergency AP really just if a family member is sick, etc? My sister in law wants my husband and I to be god parents for her son and the Christening is March 22. I hoping we will actually be approved for our GC any day now, but we have yet to receive EAD or AP. Any chance that if we do not receive it before this date, that they can issue AP based on this reason for travel? I am doubtful, but I told my husband I would ask!

You can give it a shot. You have to give them evidence as of why you want/need to travel. They have to decide if they are going to let you or not.

By the way,how do you know your going to be approved any day soon if you have not even had your interview yet? ;)

Most people get an interview and after you have had that then you will get approved or denied.

Because we have been transfered to the CSC where they generally approve without interview. We have received many touches over the last few days - which by previous accounts to others, it means we are close.

  3. Not doing and won't do it unless I ever received a full job transfer/expat package (I am the USC, we lived there for 6 years). We could never afford housing now that we sold and I found that the salaries were half of what I am making now. It sounds like you have no support network in your immediate area, what is keeping you there? How about moving elsewhere in the US?

  4. got EAD card in the mail this weekend!!

 got AP card in the mail too BUT they made a mistake with my birthdate so ...I need your advice ...

I call USCIS and they told me I need to aply again for AP they won't fix their mistake ...:angry: so I need to apply again but I have my interview for AOS the 27th of MArch so is better just wait for the green card or I should apply again for AP??? or what else I can do??

    thank you

Can you call again and ask for a supervisor? I find it outrageous that they refused to fix THEIR mistake.

  5. I'll have to get out my Suze Orman book to get the details, but I do believe you can "piggyback" credit. For example, if the USC spouse has good credit, you can add the non-USC to the account...I'll have to get the exact details again, and I'll post it later.

An example I know of is a friend who was piggybacked onto their parent's account (when he turned 18 they added him to their credit card account so he would use their card while in college). It ended up something happened where the parents credit took a nosedive, and in turn it damaged his credit although he hadn't ever been delinquent or what not himself.

    Suze Orman's Website

There should be more info on Suze's website.

This info is correct - she talks about piggybacking all the time. It is a two way street - both good and bad credit can rub off.

  6. We went thru the same thing when my husband got here. We got married in October and filed for everything in Nov. By the end of January we had his Ead and he now has his ssn. I have filed my taxes to be amended. Which is something you may want to consider doing.

Interesting, however I didn't volunteer the information, the person there explicitly asked if we were already married when I simply asked to apply for a CC number. Sorry, but I am not programmed to lie when asked a direct question.

I thank everyone for the responses. Based on the information I've read, she should get her work authorization fairly soon.

I wonder if the Visa Journey guide should be updated to warn against what happened to me?

The K1 flow chart clearly states to get the SSN around two weeks after the POE and BEFORE getting married. If you had applied then, you wouldn't have had any issues at all.

  7. The TSA is now CHECKING VISAS of anyone with a foreign passport. If you are out of status, I would NOT recommend flying domestically. The implementation of this new policy is hit-or-miss at the moment, and my wife (who is out of status) flew from Phoenix to San Juan Puerto Rico yesterday and it was the most nerve-wracking trip of my life!

We got e-tickets at the kiosk, checked our baggage, (no ID check at the ticket counter) and went to the security gate. At the gate the TSA officer checked my US drivers licence, then checked my wifes Jamaican passport...... I had taken a hint from a international airline pilot's forum and put a bunch of paperclips and slips of paper, etc. making it difficult for him to flip right to the visa page....it worked. He flipped through what he could easily see and let us through....it was the scariest ten seconds of my life.

I should also mention that I brought every piece of documentation tha I had establishing our marriage bona fides, as well as the receipt from the USPS for our I-130, just in case....

I HAD to travel by air, as I had taken a job in PR. Otherwise I would never have attempted it.

Google TSA Visa. There are some links there worth checking out.

I wish you the best of luck!

Depending on your state of course, but you can consider getting a non driver ID. In IL the rules only say you need a SSN and proof of address and ID. We use this to travel domestically.

  8. Hello Everybody,

My fiancee just had his interview and got the visa. He will be coming to LA in 2 weeks and I want to get going on his AOS. I had read somewhere in these forums that upon entering the US, he could ask the customs agent for some EAD stamp which would allow him to work for 90 days until the AOS goes through. Anyone know about this?

    Thanks in advance,

    Sonia

Only given at JFK and it is only good for 90 days. If your AOS takes longer than 90 days, you are supposed to stop working, leaving a gap. I don't know if any one has successfully managed to work continuously. You would have to get married and file AOS almost immediately upon entry for a chance.

  9. Thats total fruad and they will see in the system that you are married. There is no way you can do it.

How will they see in the system you are married?? Only if you gave your SSN on your marriage license and since he had none, no way to track it. Don't make blanket statements that "There is no way you can do it." Clearly this poster did.

Tom G - well done. I wish more people on this board used a little common sense and did what they need to do to get things done rather just moaning and complaining after not following the K1 flow chart and things don't go their way.

  10. Agreed. It is near impossible to trace/track credit from the UK. Your best bet is to try and convert (e.g. AMEX UK for AMEX US like mentioned above) and then have your checking account with your spouse. Also, start putting your name on utility bills and any other credit cards your spouse may have (assuming THEY have good credit). Don't expect everything to happen over night, but if you start early, you can establish your credit similar to what you had in the UK.

I have also used www.myfico.com to track your credit rating. It will also notify you in adjustments to your score - free 30 day trial.

  11. what is the differnece between certified copy or the original one we got on the same day og wedding in court? They said it takes upto 5 weeks to get a certfied copy? please explain me..

Because most likely the one you received on the day is kind of just a carbon copy. The certified one will have a raised seal. The processing time various by state. Generally, can you receive it from your state's office of records OR from the town/county that you were married in. In our case, the wait from the state was 6 months and the township did it for us the next day (we got married in a small town).
