  1. Go to another SSN office and start from stratch!

If there is an application pending you can't go to another office and apply again.

So just act like you don't know what they are talking about. Go bring that letter stating you are entitled to it. You can't call/send emails - you have to go in person and demand they take care of this - you are in the US now, you have to learn to speak up for yourself.

hmmm like I said the previouse post above I did show them evrything i found including the guideline

    and this

    http://www.socialsecurity.gov/pubs/10096.html#immigration

and about 4 other documents that proves my elegability

as to your comment about being in the US and to learn to speak for my self ,

not that its any of your consern but I do know how to stand on my feet

    I have been sine I was 17 ,

wich is many many moons ago , so I will desreguard your rude command ,

I came here for advice not to be told I have to learn to speak up for my self ,

maybe things run just a hint differant here in Mass then they do where you are ,

    but thats beside the point

so please in the future remember an old saying I belive every MOM tought theyr child ,

    it goes something like that

" If you cant say something nice , dont say nothing at all "

but thanks for the advice ( smile )

I didn't mean for it to come off as rude, but you just can't take no for an answer. I know a lot of people that are from other countries are not as forward or as aggressive as they need to be when it comes to getting things done. These people on power trips who think they know everything there is to know about SSN - have our lives in their hands. Obviously depending on the state, but here we need to the SSN for the driver's license, bank account, and even if you get your EAD tomorrow - no employer will hirer you without your SSN. So why should you suffer because these people don't know what they are doing?! All I'm saying it is that it is a lot harder to ignore someone if they are standing there in front of you.

Wont they denie me too , since they have all the information at my local SSOffice and already got my aplication there , cant they see that I got Refuesed in theyr system ??

I don't see how they can track you if you dont have a SSN. Besides, at this point it couldn't hurt. I also agree with the above post. I would start at a new office and do not take no for answer. Print out the letter found in the SSN section of the guides and take it with you. Refuse to move until they process your request. They will do it. It is such a shame that some people have such problems - we were lucky and had no issues, but I came prepared for a fight!

    Good luck!

  4. So being in the US and changing your passport to your married name would involve you sending the passport back to the UK - do you need it for AOS at all or can you just file in your married name and send your passport off at the same time? I mean you can't go anywhere anyway until you have AP so... :D

No you can send it to the embassy in Washington. You only need a copy for AOS, you don't actually send it in with your application - though you will need it for biometrics. Exactly, you can't go anywhere anyways - so to me it is the perfect opportunity to get it done.

Once you do get married, get a few extra certified copies of the marriage certificate. We ended up with 5 (really we wanted 3). But it made it so much easier - we sent one of for my passport, USC, one with AOS and then we have one we can show - like for DMV, etc. This way you aren't stressing to receive a copy back.

  5. As long as your passport matches the name you used to complete your AOS/AP forms. So if you do not want to change your passport yet, apply for AOS in your maiden name and you could change all your documents later. Or if you change your passport right after you marry or while your AOS is in process, use your new name.

Others may have experienced they had no problems if passport was in maiden and AOS/AP was in married name since they brought their marriage certificate with them, but I'm sure it is much easier and you avoid hassle if everything is in the same name.

  6. I was considering using my maiden name at work and my married name socially. I wouldve put my passport and driver's license having both names (no hyphen) so that I could easily travel in either name (as long as one name on the passport matches one name on the ticket, you are fine to travel). Then just use the names independently as needed - the only time they are together are on DL and Passport.

I had it all planned out, but in the end I just took my husband's name - it just made it easier for me. Good luck - let us know what you decide!

  7. In Illinois it was pretty straight forward. All we needed was proof of ID (passport), proof of address (electric bill - just call and add his name on and wait for the bill to come) and SSN card. We got a non driver ID just so we can fly domestically without having to lug the passport.

Learner's permit - just need to take the written exam and should be pretty straight forward now that he has the non driver ID.

  8. Well for my part, I won't be watching it because I don't have cable ;)

But regardless, I couldn't really care less about O'Reilly - he's a $hithead whether the story is true or not (of course if such a term as "truth" can be applied to a glorified talk show) - and for that matter, he's also a bad journalist.

Ultimately of course, its pretty unimportant at the end of the day.

How can you make comments about O'Reilly if you don't have cable and don't watch him? I suppose you just get all your info 2nd hand.

  9. Are you still in Egypt? If yes....then it's that dry air. I drank like a fish every time I was there. The spicy food made me drink a lot too. On a serious note though, excessive thirst can be a sign of diabetes.

Seriously, you should be checked for diabetes. Have you been tired a lot too? Sleeping more than normal? This is also a sign.

Well it started once I got here I noticed about a week into my trip here. Since I've been fasting, I have just been craving water :(

Well if you continue to be thirsty after the next few days, I would def have it checked out. A friend of mine - he was tired for about a year, sleeping 12 hrs every day. Then he became really thirsty - he was admitted to hospital because his blood sugar was completely out of whack. He is now an insulin dependent diabetic and if he had waited any longer, he couldve gone into a coma.

No to scare you by any means - but better to be safe than sorry!

  11. You're probably right. For some reason I recall reading the instructions sometimes when I submitted and reading something about the fact that there shouldn't be any personal checks? They have to be of some special kind? I might be hallucinating but I remember even my hubby reading them and deciding that we should go for a MO. I don't know.

Well since it said check or money order, I assumed personal checks would be fine. I submitted a personal check for our K1 and I actually just renewed my USC passport with one - no issues. But, there is never any question with a money order.

The only thing I really hate about money orders is if you need to refund it. For example, everything is supposed to be made out to the Department of Homeland Security. But what if you made it out to INS or if the government comes up with a new name this week, you better hope you still have the money order receipt!

I'll let you know when the check clears (hopefully with our case number stamped on the back!).

  12. Did you not have to send his previous marriage certificates with the K1 application?....we did (we went to the Courthouse and got copies) and they had them on file at my interview.

I was married before, female, USC. My husband was never married before. I never sent in a copy of my previous marriage certificate because I had to submit it when I applied for my divorce. The council kept it and I just submitted my decree absolute. I'm pretty sure in the K1 instructions, previous marriage certificates was not on the list/just divorce decrees (if it was on there, I would've obtained a copy from the council). This was never brought up in the interview.

  13. I sent mine last week and made out one personal check for $1010

Did they accept it or you don't know yet?

I don't know for sure yet, but this is right from the I-485 instructions

    What Is the Filing Fee?

The filing fee for a Form I-485 is $930.00.

An additional biometric fee of $80.00 is required when filing this Form I-485. After you submit Form I-485, USCIS will notify you about when and where to go for biometric services.

The fee is $930.00 only (no biometrics fee required) for applicants under 14 years who submits Form I-485 independent from other family members.

The fee for a child under the age fourteen years will be$600.00 when submitted concurrently for adjudication with the application of a parent under sections 201(B)(A)(i), 203(a)

You may submit one check or money order for both the application and biometric fees, for a total of $1010.00.
