  1. So I just watched the movie and while it did have its sad moments it should make all American's mad that the government is allowing our fellow human beings to be treated this way. I don't hear of marching in the streets or a call to action to get Universal healthcare - it's time to speak up don't you think?

What is the U.S. citizen in your relationship doing about it?

  2. if we detect your IP changing while you are logged on (you swap computers) we log you out :P. This is a security feature.

Well I don't normally switch computers, although I do have wheels on my chair and could just whizzzz over there ! Interesting....I'm using a router I wouldn't think it would change the IP, but no matter, I was just jumping in to this conversation for no particular reason other than I knew that we couldn't blame cookies (hate to see a cookie given a bad rap for no reason!) :)

maybe you have your computer set up to delete the cookies after a certain time...

    nada

  4. Cancel that, found the answer on my own (not like anyone was lining up to answer anyway haha)

    "waiting4goozyApr 29 2006, 07:52 PM

When I spoke with NVC they said orginals or CERTIFIED copies not photo copies. I had been misinformed that photo copies could be sent as long as you had the originals at the inteview... Three telephone calls to NVC all said orginals.. so I had to resend.."

  5. I emailed the choice of agent on July 3rd and gave them a call yesterday and just now. I put a 'read receipt' on the email and it came back on the 5th as read.

They 'haven't received it', NVC suggested I should resend today, which I will.

So I resent my email yesterday morning around 11 a.m.. Just received the reply that they received it and will send the DS230 - good-o!

  6. the husband had his medical yesterday at the lovely Hummingbird day spa. We got there at 11:30 for his noon appt. and were promptly told that the Dr. wouldn't be in till 4. so sorry. after reading other reviews I wasn't really surprised by that level of unprofessionalism. the nurse did her part of the medical-eye test, filled out the forms, and gave us the reqs to get the blood work and x-ray done. We went and got that done, took a trip to MEC and otherwise tried to entertain ourselves in the SW till 4. Got back to Hummingbird right at 4. the nurse had the husband go back to the room and strip down. Then he sat in the little gown for almost 45 minutes before the dr. finally saw him. the medical exam took less than 5 minutes.

ridiculous that the only doctor that is approved to do this exam is so careless and inconsiderate of our time. If you have to get your medical done in Calgary expect it to take all day and to be the least through exam you've ever had

    Hi thermophile,

It is a shame that this is the only person available in Calgary - having you wait until 4:00 (and then another 45 minutes!) is inexcusable.

What exactly did the 5 minute exam entail? (It will be my husband getting his medical in Calgary - frankly we don't care if the guy is thorough or not - basically he is only doing it because he has to - you know what I mean, most people choose their own doctor).

  7. Appointment NVC Processing

    Document Requirements

The applicant and each family member who will accompany the applicant to the United States will need to obtain the following original documents or certified copies of the documents listed in this section from an appropriate authority (the issuing entity).

    Howdy,

Well I just went to the USCIS site to read the requirements for Canadians submitting the DS-230 - it mentions Original or Certified copies of Marriage and Birth Certificates.

Yes, I probably should have read this sooner, but since we have already submitted copies of everything with the i-130 - didn't think about this too much (yes, I know, don't try to apply logic to this process).

So my question is - did you all send Originals of the birth certificate and marriage certificates - if not, did you get a request for them (if you just sent a photo copy).

  8. The current I-130 instructions encourage petitioners to include documentation not previously requested on the old form.

We've heard a lot about how people who have never lived together dealt with the above request but I'm curious to hear from people who filed in 2007 using the new form but either didn't see or ignored this request.

Has your I-130 been approved anyway? If not yet and no RFE, no need to answer. If you got an RFE, please let us know.

I'm posting this in the K3 forum as well, for obvious reasons.

    Hi there,

Well, I didn't see this part when I filed, so basically ignored it and we were approved anyway. Mind you we do live at the same address in the same country and we have been married a while - I don't know if that has any bearing on it or not - one wouldn't think so.

  9. Vylex, have they not yet responded to your choice of agent e-mail? I sent our second e-mail attempt one day before you sent yours.

Not yet. I am still awaiting response. My wife hasn't received the hardcopy of the DS-3032 although I have along with the hardcopy of the AoS fee Bill (1 week delivery time since generation).

One other question, when you send the email to the NVC do you get the autoresponse that they received it and it will be processed in the order it was received?

Also, did I understand saywhat correctly in that he faxed a completed DS-3032 form to the NVC?

I emailed the choice of agent on July 3rd and gave them a call yesterday and just now. I put a 'read receipt' on the email and it came back on the 5th as read.

They 'haven't received it', NVC suggested I should resend today, which I will.

  10. Does anybody have any good suggestions for those awful hard white "marks" in the shower, sink, toilet, etc. (calcium?????). I have tried Lime Away and CLR, with no good results. THEY ARE DRIVING ME CRAZY!!!!

ooo Im waiting for the answer to that one too! We have a really old tub, that CLR stuff is rubbish.

Vinegar - it's the only thing I use for hard water build up in the shower, sinks etc, I leave it sitting for a while before scrubbing off (yes it does take some scrubbing but those cleaners that just wipe it off - I find them too caustic).

Scrubbing bubbles automatic shower cleaner is a great little product, after the last shower of the day you push the button and voila' - keeps your bathtub clean! http://www.automaticshowercleaner.com/

We have all hardwood floors so we bought the floormate, the actual machine is a tad heavy, I find, however it really does get the floors really clean!

  11. It is my understanding that having the medical done for a K3 is only a recommendation as it's not totally necessary until adjusting status.

You will now have an opportunity to update your understanding as a medical is REQUIRED for a K-3 and is not simply a recomendation. What is a recomendation is the vaccinations update

Is that comment intended to sound rude or is that just the way it's coming across online?

No, it was definately intended to be rude.

  12. I just dread the thought of doing the immigration process for my husband to move to Canada when the time comes!!!! Anybody know if it's really complicated????

We've done the Canadian immigration process for my Husband, compared to this it's a cakewalk :)

  13. I think what I was most pissed about was that CNN made it sound as if those countries serving universal health care paid a disproportionate amount of taxes compared to the United States.

Which is how they've been presenting it from day one, that if the US offered "socialist" healthcare everyone's taxes would go up to 50% or more, and they'd lose their civil rights somehow

Oh totally - this was something I think MM debunked quite well in Sicko.

As a percentage of income, I take home about the same as I did in the UK (though I live in high-tax California, it might not be the case in, say, Michigan, but it wouldn't be dramatically more).

If me or my husband got really sick, we would be financially worse off. We already have to pay a couple grand to get him some much needed root canals that go above and beyond what our dental cover pays per year.

The bottom line for me is that people in the US who have really great coverage would not be so affected by whatever the shortcomings of universal care would be. They would be the ones that can afford private cover, just like in the UK. True, they would still pay for it through their taxes but people still pay for education who send their kids to private school. Is education a "privilege" that the poor shouldn't have access to?

Just as an aside, dental isn't covered universally in Canada. Generally people pay a part portion for private coverage for things like dental, drugs etc.. either through their employer or pay for the whole thing themselves. Even then, for something like a root canal, the co-pay is still like 50% and there is a cap on what they will pay per year.

  14. This seems to be part of the problem with the system. WHY!!!! clog the system up with applying for more than one visa that does the same thing??? If people would just apply for what they need this would be a faster system!!!!

    DAVE

    Hi Dave,

I take your point, but it seems to me that the people applying for visas aren't really the thing that is wrong with this whole system.

We could ask why, when the application reaches NVC they send bills and requests back and forth, which takes weeks, when they could just send a package requesting it all at once and therefore cut down on the time dramatically.

We could ask why, in a country of this size, we only have 1 consulate processing IR1 visas (they used to do it at most consulates so I was told by the consulate in Calgary when I visited).

We could ask why, when the whole Adam Walsh ruling came up in late Feb we were prohibited from doing direct consular filing and had to go through the service center, only to find out a week or so later that they opened it up again.

We could ask why we can't seem to ever get a straight answer about timelines and when we might get an interview, why is it some big mysterious secret? Montreal knows where they are up to, they aren't guessing - why don't they post the information so people can make an informed choice.

However - this is the way the system is and I can't blame anyone for trying to get whichever visa suits their purposes the best.

  15. Hi Liz,

The elusive word doc! How does one get ones hands on this document? I have seen it a couple of times on this thread, but it doesn't open correctly for me normally.

well, you could PM someone and ask them to email it to you...

Might wanna wait til it gets updated first cuz it's been a while

Last I checked there wasnt a lot of new info to add to the timeline.........no new interviews and such.Ive been a bit busy planning my hubby's surprise 40th b-day party for this past Saturday ( went off without a hitch :D ) and we're still entertaining out of town guests( so little time for being on the puter). Unless someone knows something that I dont regarding timeline info.......if it's ok with everyone I'll wait a few days to scour over the VJ timelines and see what can be added.

Trailmix , if you havent gotten it emailed to you already just PM me an email addy and I'll send you the last word I made.

........and for those who dont know.......this particular word doc is for k visas waiting in Montreal. Since the NVC is responsible for the timeline pace of the CR-1's it didnt seem logical to me to compare that visa with the k's.......oh and I left Van out of the comparison as well .......thats just pouring salt on a wound ;)

Ha ha, true true. Good old Vancouver, I wish they would miraculously release a statement that they will now process K1s in Vancouver :)

  16. I am in Canada visiting my husband for the next 5 weeks and we have a problem. We just received the immigrant visa fee bill for $380 and on there is says the money order or cashier's check must be in U.S. dollars drawn on a U.S. bank. Since we are both in Canada we have having trouble finding a U.S. bank in this small town. I don't even know if there are U.S. banks in Canada. Has anyone else been in this predicament? I called the NVC and she recommended Chase Manhattan (which we don't have here). But, I just now called and a different lady said..as long as it is in U.S. dollars it doesn't matter where it comes from. Has anyone else in Canada bought a money order from RBC (where my husband banks)? I just don't want to send $380 dollars and them not accept it since RBC is not an American bank. Any thoughts would be appreciated. I'm probably reading into this too much, I just don't want to screw up.

    Hi,

If you walk in to a large bank, like Royal or TD and ask for a U.S. money order, normally this money order is drawn on a U.S. bank (ie: major banks generally have an affiliate U.S. bank).

Now I can only speak for TD as that is where we get our money orders and they are drawn on their U.S. bank affiliate (this is stated on the front of the money order with name and Address of U.S. bank).

If you are unsure about your bank give them a call or visit and ask, I'm sure they will know what you are talking about.

  17. Thanks to LizLegend...........

    =) you're welcome..

There's a member who actually has a word document where all the ppl waiting are listed..

I'm sure they'll add both of us soon to their list ;)

    Hi Liz,

The elusive word doc! How does one get ones hands on this document? I have seen it a couple of times on this thread, but it doesn't open correctly for me normally.

  18. Out of my paycheck each month....

    $240 health insurance family coverage

    $83 family dental

    $19.95 for life insurance

5% of pre tax dollars go to Teacher Retirement System (I do NOT have a choice in this)

then more than 25% is taken out for taxes

So, for a monthly salary of $1322 I bring home $764 a month. Almost half my salary. *sigh* Yet this insurance is some of the best in the state. So I'm tied to a job that I'm already burned out in just so I can keep us covered.

How do you end up paying 25% in taxes? Are state and local taxes in Georgia that high?

The feds surely do not tax you 25% on a roughly 16K salary.

So if I am reading this right, you are calculating your '25%' taxes AFTER you deduct all those other things, to answer the Georgia/Federal tax question....
