Thank you...I only asked because of my experience with Philadelphian officer S. Descano was completely opposite. The most horrible interview in my life and 2 months of complete silence afterward 😒

Sorry to hear this. I am super surprised too when I saw all were done in just a few days. Don’t worry you will be fine, and your oath letter will arrive soon. In the end, this process also needs a little bit of luck!

  2. Hi guys, so my journey finally has reached the end today as I received my oath date schedule and it will be on April 22 at Philadelphia office. Because I really appreciate all your helps when I was panicking after my interview 3 weeks ago I decide that I would contribute by updating my case and give you some more details that may be helpful to you in the future. I know for sure this wouldn’t happen if I didn’t receive helps from many of you here. To save some time, I attached here the previous post of my interview date and the reason why I got RFE

I came to the US in 2010 as a student and in 2014 I married my husband while my student visa and F-1 status were both in good standing. My husband is 10 years older than me, he didn’t have a stable job at the time but we managed to make him my primary sponsor. We got married in Aug 2014 and not until March 2015 that I started to submit my application. We had joint 2014 tax return then (I of course made 0 income :)), lived in our in laws house, started a joint checking and saving, and started to transfer the gas bill into his name. No joint car ownership or health insurance at the time (I got covered by my school mandatory health plan and didn’t know how to drive). Our first interview was pleasant, we just chatted about airport and travel with the IO, and she kept a few photos of us in the file. We were approved right then, and I got my green card in June, a mere 3 months after filing. Started my ROC in 03/2017, still joint tax return with me only making a few thousands in 2016 with my internship and documents of my school loan. Again lease, utilities, joint bank, photos and in 2016 I first got my DL so we submitted that to show we lived in the same address. Took almost a year (04/2018) for me to receive my 10yr GC with no interview, but it was one of the batch that have incorrect date so they had to send me a new one and I finally got it in May 2018. I graduated from college in April 2017 and didn’t start working until October 2017, again was careless so I didn’t think to share health insurance with my husband for the sake of N400. After a few years of multiple contractor jobs, my husband got one with full benefits and we decided it’s cheaper to have separate health insurance so we just kept it that way. Submitted my application in early Aug 2018, got biometric in 2 weeks and receive my interview letter Feb 2019 for March 19. Then I was sent home with RFE, freaked out, came here for help and finally sent my package back April 9 by mail. It reached the office the 10 and by the 11 afternoon, when I checked my status showed case approved. And I couldn’t believe my eye when today it changed to oath was scheduled and it’s in 10 days. I just can’t believe how fast Philadelphia office processed my case and am super grateful for this. I believe my prayers to Buddha has brought me luck :)

Tips: For our bona fide evidence, we actually don’t have much compared to many couples here, and many have advised me to write a cover letter to explain why we don’t have joint health insurance or car insurance (husband driver license was suspended so it’s impossible!) but we think that the more we try to explain it may appear like we are covering our asses and since the start we didn’t have those documents so I decided not to write a cover letter. Instead I divided them into sections with paper clips and a sticky notes on each of the clips describing what documents are in here (Ex: tax payments receipts for 2018 - this was the reason why we gor RFE in the first place, so PLEASE pay attention to your tax, if you owe, submitted receipt to show that you paid; W2s and IRS transcripts since 2014; leases and bills of current address...). I also did this for my ROC and I believe my bright orange sticky notes had contributed to my success :) Jk, but I do think that those extra notes show the IO that I care.

I can’t believe Im in the US for almost 10 years now and soon I will become a proud citizen. Good luck to you all who are still in the process, it’s dreadful, but totally worth it. I’m super lucky to have Philadelphia office as my immigration destination.

Sorry for the lengthy post again, I hope you will find it helpful!

    Hey Thanks,

I filled my Taxes on March 13 (turbo tax) . I would take any information you have to prove you filled and you dont owe any tax. Thats what they looking for. Also if you have the interview date before April 15 you should be fine but if you have it after you definitely make sure to have that information with you for the interview.

    thnks

I had my interview on the 19 a day after my tax was filed and since we owe money this year I got RFE. I paid everything and kept receipts of payment but didn’t know why the irs take so long to give us return  transcript. Thank you for your reply!

    Filled n400 ( 3 year marriage based to a US Citizen)- March 28 2018

    Cashed March 29 2018

    NOA March 30 2018

    fingerprint APR 17 2018

    interview letter - Feb 20 2019

    Interview Date - Apt 1 2019

    Oath date - waiting

Went to the interview yesterday had it at 9.00 in the morning. I went there little early around 8.15 and checked in and got a number. Called in around 9.15 for the interview and verified all the details i already included on the application. Asked me am i changing my name and the signature. I said yes to change my name but not the signature. Asked me if i owe any taxes and i said no and asked me if i filled for 2018 taxes. I had the tax transcript for 2018 and gave to her. Asked me 6  random civic questions.  Easy ones.  All together I had the interview is for 15 to 20 min.  Interviewer gave me a letter stating she recommended me for the approval and i should hear back for the final approval. When i checked the case update i saw the case was approved and the ceremony estimated for 5 months which i doubt is going to be that long.

    Good luck plp.

Congratulations! May I asked when did you file 2018 tax? I filed march 18 and now when I logged onto my IRS account it’s yet to be up there, still no information received. The account transcript (the payment we made) showed up there though. Thank you!

Kind a odd, what we did for 2015 was paid online for federal and state, Yes my interview is coming up soon, hoping for smooth sailing on this last journey. Thank you.

By the way what number did you call when paying a federal? My co-worker here owed money to the federal for 2018, when she called the IRS 1-800-829-1040, they said her tax is not yet in the system though she filed her tax March 14.

You said you filed March 19 right? and your tax filing was already on the IRS system since you were able to paid the amount that you owed for the federal.

My accountant finished our tax on the 18 and it’s not yet on the irs.gov account too. I just go directly to paytax1040.com and manually enter how much I owed and paid it that way. Even after i paid, i last checked on Friday it still shows no records received for 2018. But I already printed the confirmation page and they already took money from my bank account

ah okay same like we did for 2015, i think that is the OPA online from the IRS, you can pay and set-up payment agreement online, but yeah, you need to established an account so you can pay online, pretty convenient. but isnt you can pay and set-up and an agreement online for federal and state on irs.gov/OPA?

For federal I didn’t have to fax in any tax form pretty straightforward, just use the website. For state i have to go into their separate website. Isn’t your interview coming up soon? Good luck to both of us :)

You cannot provide the things that you don't have. Just explain in writing why you dont't have insuranace together. That is what I did when our health insurance were separate when I applied for my ROC. My ROC was approved with no RFE and interview.

Economically wise, we're better of separate, because it's way to expensive if we will get our health insurance as one of the dependent. If both of you have a separate insurance, you can include the health insurance policy as evidence but make sure it's the same address.

I was thinking that maybe it’s better to not explain it because then for the car insurance i will have to mention that his license is suspended. And for health i don’t have my job anymore so I don’t know if I can retrieve my plan online. He just got laid off recently too so I feel bad coming to him asking for this and that. We didn’t submit any of these (insurances) when we do AOS or ROC and there’s no problem getting either. That’s y this is so stressful :(

They're questioning whether you're still living in a marital union. I know it's a hassle, but I would treat this as a I-751 and just put a package together again. Hopefully you'll find the following framework useful (click the arrow to go directly to the post). I would be careful to include material from marriage to the present. Best of luck!

I think I visited your posts while looking for similar case as mine. Very throughout, i got my 10 years green card already so I was arrogant when it comes to preparing for N400. However I still didn’t have joint insurance policies during both times so I don’t think we will suddenly show up with it now

    Renter's or home insurance?

Are you beneficiaries on each other bank accounts?

    Will? Living will?

In real life we are young, so never once we thought about will or life Insurance since I was in school 3 out of the 5 years we are together. Plus being together for so long make you lazy to go out and do stuff. I’m pretty sure most Americans couples wouldn’t think of doing any of the thing us immigrants are required to do until they wanna have kids or getting close to 35-40. When we filed for 2 years green card and ROC, we didn’t have any of these things (insurance too) so suddenly going out to get them would make it look more suspicious. Thank you for your information though, i hope all the new couples in the forum would learn from our mistakes and be better prepared :)

Just Health insurance. We don't have any of the other ones. Car insurance is only in my name since he doesn't drive. We also couldn't hunt down any past w2s. Just current ones. As for employer letter my bosses said I would have to contact my HR department. I sat on the phone waiting for 3 hours till I gave up. And as for my husband's job he was just laid off so he obviously won't be able to get a letter. We submitted everything else. So hopefully we don't get denied. But we can't submit what we don't have.

Same scenario here too. I guess i will be happy with what i have. Rather than jumped out and start to buy life Insurance. I read having him as beneficiary for my retirement account is one strong point too. So whatever I’m prepared for the worst!

that is why I quoted @Dami1025 post not you because OP have unpaid taxes that is not yet overdue. I'm trying to give advise for those who have unpaid taxes specially if they have upcoming N-400 interview.

Thank you so much lemon for your opinion. I have paid federal and city tax, only waiting for state tax as we have to fax our signatures before we can pay online. This is the docs the IO asked that we submitted, we have everything except for the insurance policy. His license is suspended so no car insurance, we didn’t think we need life insurance so none of that too. But both driver licenses are at same address. For health I quitted my job and is back to school so it’s not together. But I remember that I have a rollover IRA after I quitted my job and I listed him as the primary beneficiary so I’m going to submit that document. Again his financial is so bad that our joint checking was closed by the bank, but I will try to go there tomorrow just to see if they can pull up old statement cuz we have that since 2015-2017. Do you think in our cover letter we should explain why we don’t have insurance together? I just feel like the more we try to explain it’d look like we trying to cover up something.

  12. Did anyone here got their interview but got a RFE letter afterwards? I wonder how long it would take in real life for a decision. I posted here my story too.

So my story was that I marry an US citizen back in 08/2014 but we did not file for green car until 2015, and I receive my 10 year permanent green card in May 2018 and I start to apply for my citizenship application in August 2018. My interview was scheduled for March 19  and I attended the interview by myself my spouse did not come with me.  The thing is that our accountant just finished filing 2018 tax return a day before my interview date and for this year we actually owe tax to the government. During the interview, after the civic test, the officer said that he saw my tax return for 2018 when I was opening my folfer and asked to see it. when he found out that I did not pay for the tax return He said that he will have to send me an RFE notification to ask that I  submit additional document proving that we have paid tax. Right before we submit the application in August we move to the new address and we have been living in the old address (in laws house) for 4 years and because of that when I create this application we did not have any document pointing to this new address.  The officer then asked to see the lease or insurance bill document about the new place but unfortunately I did not prepare enough and I didn’t bring it so again he said to send additional document with the tax 2018 to show that I have been living with my spouse for the past three year he said to mail all the evidence to the office (Philadelphia). At night I checked my online account I saw the rfe form under documents tab, and found out you can actually submit all these documents online. We don’t have a lot of document related to the new house since we only move here for like 8 months we have the lease, bank document, our credit card saying that he is on he’s an authorized  user, some utility bill and tax return. The RFE said to submit W2 for 16, 17, 18 and I’m worried because for this tax year  my W-2 was sent to the new address while his is still at the old house. Even though since 2014, all our w2 were coming to the old house.  I already created a cover letter listing all the docs we will be submitting, and i think i will include some from 2014-15 too just to show that we live together for a long time and since we don’t have many docs for new address.  I lost the folder that had many documents for the removal of conditions so now the joint bank acc we had is already closed. He is very bad with financials so his credit score is bad and he has to be under my account. Do you think these document that I listed are sufficient  for the RFP and also if you have received an RFP for your application do you know how long it would take for them to reopen the case and give me adecision? Thank you all for sharing I really appreciate it, sorry for the lengthy post!

But in 2017 I wasnt listed as dependent. Is there like a certified form I can get from the IRS to prove why I didnt file cause taking my parents 2017 tax return wouldnt help since I'm not listed on there

If you don’t receive any w2 (means that you’re working) then irs doesn’t have any document for you. Don’t worry too much, they can’t ask for it if u never need to file tax. Bring your school transcript stating that you’re in school full time if you still worried.

  14. 1 minute ago, corvusheart said:

It says in our letter at least submitting everything is strongly recommended. But we don't have joint checking. Hopefully that doesn't weaken our case too much.

I'm thinking of uploading more stuff in the Unsolicited Evidence area of myuscis page. It says they aren't required to look at it. It's up to the IO to look at that. I wonder if it's worth it.

Don’t worry too much you will be fine, if u have everything in your letter besides the bank that’s enough. Did u guy have any kid? We don’t so i think they may suspect the case but who knows what in their head!

  15. You can still answer no. My friend filed under the 5 years type (he married but divorced his us citizenship wife). In his interview the IO asked if he filed tax for 2018 and wanna see it but he said he is a full time student so he doesn’t work thus no tax. If your name was under your parents tax return just bring those with you, it’s just bad that if you actually been working  and didn’t file tax. So if u have no income whatsoever no need to file tax at all.
