We just received our “Interview has been scheduled” online update, hopefully we’ll get the notice in the next week or so. Far sooner than we expected!

Still no update on the EAD/AP though I see posters here with later NOA dates being approved for the EAD. Very mysterious are the ways of USCIS!

Congrats on your scheduled interview!  You should receive a Notice of Action within a week from that update.

I applied for an extension of my EAD/AP because the processing time for San Francisco is quite long.  The interview/approval/GC arrived before the EAD/AP had any movement past the notice that they were going to use my previous biometrics. The CIS officer said during my interview that since she is approving my AOS, the EAD/AP won't arrive anymore.  No complaints here. :)

Congrats on your approval. We were there last week and my husband got approval when we got home too. The tracking number says the card will be delivered tomorrow 🙂

The day before our interview, our lawyer warned us about parking because the lot was full and people had to park on the side streets.  This freaked us out so we got there much earlier, but hung around in the parking lot.  For us, parking wasn't bad. But people's experiences may vary!

Thank you, and congrats to your husband's approval as well!  In regards to parking, I guess luck was just on my side that day. :) An RV could've parked there too without problems that day. Haha!

I know what the journey is like and I sincerely wish everyone on this thread the best and hope they receive their approvals soon.  The waiting is always the worst part.  I received my Green Card yesterday and I was over the moon!  I have 5 years to chill until the N-400 application. :)

Hi! Yes, I received it yesterday :) it will be in San Jose on February 10th!!

Good luck on your interview!  My F-1 family based AOS interview was last Friday, Jan 17th in the San Jose office.  Typically, I would've been assigned to San Francisco but because they are easing the backlog, they are sending cases to other CIS offices.  The SJ office is nice, clean and looks like it was recently remodeled. Parking was not difficult at all.  Lots of spaces to park!  The moment you enter the front door, even the security guards are very helpful and friendly.  They probably know that most folks that are there are experiencing some nerves so they do their best to lighten the mood.  The CIS officer that interviewed me was very friendly but very thorough.  They typically do not indicate the status of your case at the end of your interview but because my lawyer did an excellent job putting my application together, she said, "Wow, your application is complete and very well put together. I wish all cases were like this. All supporting documents are in order.  I am submitting your case for approval today."  My jaw dropped to the floor because this is not typical.  They don't really give approval on the spot.  By the time I got home, my case update said "New Card Is Being Produced".  I am extremely grateful and I am now only 5 years away from applying for US citizenship.

Helpful Tip: As soon as you clear security, you need to get a number from the Line 1 desk before sitting in the waiting room. Do not be late.  Check in 30 minutes before your appointment.  The desk clerk said that if anyone checks in 5 minutes before their appointment, they cannot accept them.  (Yikes!)  Keep us posted on your interview experience and case!

  4. Hi Everyone!

I recently received an update on 12/13/19 that my AOS has been scheduled for an interview.  I am just waiting for the letter with all the information to arrive, hopefully this week.

Background: My USC father petitioned me quite a while back since I was over 21 when he did.  We filed the AOS I-485 on Sept 2019.  EAD/Combo card arrived in Feb 2019.  I am now in the process of renewing my EAD/AP combo card when I received the update regarding my interview being scheduled.  Based on what I have read on this site, the interview may happen sometime in January 2020.  My father is currently out of the country and will not return to the US until March 2020 (he's retired and enjoying it!).  Looks like I will be going to this interview by myself.

Question:  What has been your interview experience for a family-based AOS?

Thanks in advance for any insight!

  5. Hello everyone!

My EAD and AP application was approved on 2/17/2019 and I received the card in the mail a week later. The card expires on 2/17/2020.  While I wait for my AOS interview to be scheduled, I am now in the process of renewing my EAD and AP.  My last Notice of Action says that they can reuse my current biometrics on file. I hope this saved some processing time.

Now my question - is there anyone out there that have gone through an EAD/AP renewal process recently?  How long did it take for the EAD/AP renewal to be approved?

    Thanks in advance!

    Hello,

Any udpate on your case? I filed early September 2018 AOS under F2B category (PD 05/23/12) and my case status also went from "interview ready to be scheduled" to "interview cancelled" on October 2018 after I did the biometrics and it hasn't changed since then.

It's been 8 months now. Hopefully I hear something soon as I've been seeing on this forum that some folks who filed for AOS in queens, NY are getting processed fast. Not sure if it makes a difference whether it's under F2B category or not because most of them were not F2B.

Hi - I found out after this post that there are 2 USCIS websites and the newer one had the most current information. The new website says that my case is ready to be scheduled for an interview. Since I am in San Francisco, I expect the wait to be long.  I am hoping I get my interview soon.

How about you? Have you discovered the new website myuscis.gov?

    Hi everyone,

My status changed to "interview ready to schedule" as of yesterday. I was excited for about 30 minutes, until I saw SF office roughly takes about 15 months to schedule an interview 😣

SO with that being said, I'm hoping EAD/AP will come much sooner.

My NOA 1 date is December 28 2018, around how long did it take everyone to receive that? I'm expecting a RFE (I didn't put duplicates of passport photos)....So, if anyone else received an RFE, did it back track your EAD/AP by a lot??? Thanks!!!

Unfortunately, the RFE may delay the case. If you reply right away, there’s a chance it will not delay it. From what I’ve read, the clock ticking resumes when the RFE reply is received.  I had an RFE and sent in my reply within 24 hours. It still took them 3 weeks to reflect that they received it. It did not seem to have affected my EAD/AP combo card arrival so my advice is, take action immediately as soon as you receive the RFE. Do not send it in before you get the RFE in the mail because you need to send that piece of paper back with your reply.  Make a copy. Good luck!

P.S. I received an RFE about 3 weeks after my receipt date. It’s been 3 months since your NOA1 so let’s hope they will let it slide. I say that because you should’ve received the RFE by now.

Hey! I have a quick question for those who have received their EAD and/or AP cards.

On my cases, only the EAD status has been approved to say that it has been sent to me.  No update on the AP status.  Is this normal for a combo card?  Will I only get my EAD card and no AP?

    Thanks in advance

If you applied for an AP, it will be an EAD/AP combo card. In my case, the old site didn’t show the update properly but the new site (my.uscis.gov) showed the corresponding approvals and updates.

Your Case Status: Card/ Document Production

Got the above update for my EAD! I got an email and text, and it has been updated only on the old website. No update on the AP or green card.

Hopefully I get the combo card soon!!

It seems like information on old and new sites are not consistent with all cases. In my case, the new site has the current information from EAD/AP approval and I-485 status saying “ready to be scheduled for interview “. The old site information is stuck with “interview cancelled” on the I-485. I received my combo card 4 days after it said card was in production. Yours will hopefully arrive soon! Best of luck!

We never received any other update online besides that our "case approved" from Feb. 14. We received a paper confirmation of approval on Feb. 19th. So we are still waiting for the other updates as well.

Oh, so in that case you are well within your window to call and inquire. The upside is you know your case has been approved. It’s just frustrating that you don’t have any other update and have the card in your hands yet.  Best of luck to you! I hope it starts moving soon. Keep us posted!

    Hello!

We are still waiting on the combo card, via post. Is this out of the normal time frame to receive the card? I've been reading some of the posts and it seems that other have gotten their card within 5-10 business days.

    EAD/AP Timeline

    Online Case Update: Feb. 14,

NOA2: Feb. 19th via the update

Should I call or make an online inquiry?

On the update that says “Card has been mailed to me”, there is a line that says if you do not receive the card by a certain date, you can request for a new card to be mailed to you. My card was approved on 2/18, card in production on 2/20, mailed to me on 2/21 and received on 2/23. The update on mine said that if I don’t receive card by March 8, I should click on the link provided. Yours should have that too.

  12. Good day All!

My case status went from "interview ready to be scheduled" to "interview cancelled" and they will notify me by mail if the interview is rescheduled, a decision is made or if they need something from me. I understand that interview cancellations are not uncommon especially if the field office is not ready.

When I read the "Next Steps", it says "We will issue a decision and mail it to you. Any action or step you may need to take will be on your decision notice."  There have been cases where an AOS was approved without an interview.  Could this possibly be one of them? (I hope!)  Or is this just a template response that can mean so many things?  Has anyone on VJ received an approval on AOS on a F2B category (USC petition for unmarried children over 21) with the interview being waived?

    Thanks in advance!

LOL, You've misled us. We have all been responding as if he were a K1 (and you went along with it by responding as such) when in fact that's not the case at all.

If he were a K1, what you've described that he"s done is shocking to us as we, as K1s know what the requirements of the K1 Visa are.

Sorry for the confusion. Since it is not my case, I got the petition codes wrong. I should have just left it out. Just trying to help the neighbors out before a (possible) preventable mistake happens.

  14. 46 minutes ago, K1visaHopeful said:

So what you're saying he used his K1 to get into the US, left that fiancee, hung around illegally and then found somebody else to marry, filed an I-130, was approved even though he failed to fulfill the requirements of the K1 and didn't leave afterwards?

I dont think you will find anybody here that would be brave enough to do that, lol.

Actually, that is not what I am saying. It is not as complicated as you've outlined above.

    1. He already overstayed way before he met his current wife. His original visa was a B1/B2 visitor visa. He has not left the US in 4 years.

    2. He has never been engaged or married prior to his current marriage. They were introduced my mutual friends.

    3. His wife petitioned him AFTER they were married. It's a legitimate marriage. His AOS case is pending.

    4. His petitions have been approved thus far and is now just waiting for his EAD/AP.

    5. When his EAD/AP arrives, he told me he would like to fly to Indonesia to visit his dad.

    6. I warned him that the AP is not a guaranteed re-entry to the US and since he overstayed prior to his petitions, he should just wait for his GC to travel overseas.

    7. I am asking if there are similar situations (or know of others) who used their AP to return to the US even if they have been here illegally prior to AOS filing but are bearers of an Advance Parole.

    8. Bottomline - I advised him to err on the side of extreme caution but now I wondered if there were others who have successfully returned from abroad using their AP when they overstayed prior to filing the original petition through marriage.

Since it is not my case, I may have gotten the petition codes wrong. Sorry. Just trying to help him since he and his wife are such a nice couple and I just want this to work out for them, including not leaving the US (even with an AP) if that will be detrimental to his case.

  15. 1 hour ago, C90 said:

If he came on a K1 visa and got married after the 90 days he violated the terms of his K1 and he has to leave the country ASAP and file for I-130.

Anyway, AP status doesn't change with a lot of people. Check when your card comes in that it says 'serves as I-521 Advanced Parole' on the bottom and you're good.

Thanks, I will definitely check the card as soon as it arrives.

Apparently, he has overstayed for quite some time. He eventually found the love of his life and she petitioned him as soon they were married. His petitions have been approved so far and he’s only waiting for his EAD/AP.  He was telling me of planning a visit to his father when he gets his AP since it’s been a long time since they’ve seen each other. That is when I warned him and asked him to be patient and wait for the GC because he may not be re-admitted even with the AP.

That’s why I wanted to ask if there are people in this forum who have overstayed, have/had an AP, traveled abroad and was able to successfully return. Or maybe not?

  16. 37 minutes ago, K1visaHopeful said:

He didnt get married before his i94 expired or he didnt file AOS before his i94 expired?

If the former he's in a whole lot more trouble than just being out of status....

Did his wife file an Alien Petition for him now? And has it been approved?

Yes as I mentioned above his I-94 expired before he got married and they filed AOS after they were married. The I-131 was approved. He is just waiting for his EAD/AP.

I am single so I can’t relate to his case. Just wanted to help him realize that traveling with Advance Parole may be a risk for him and he should wait for his GC. I was asking if anyone here has traveled with an AP while AOS is pending and an expired I-94 prior to filing.

  17. 31 minutes ago, SanaW said:

I had the same problem, my EAD kept getting updated but nothing on the AP but when I received the approved letters it was for EAD and AP so it’s just a delay on their part! Don’t worry about it :)

    Phew, thanks!

I don’t plan to travel anytime soon as my short term focus is the EAD (until AOS) and being gainfully employed, but I applied for AP as a “just in case”.

My neighbor across the street is also waiting for his EAD/AP as part of a K-1 AOS but he is out of status. He was planning on visiting his father in Indonesia when he receives his AP but I told him that traveling on an AP especially when he is out of status can be a risk.

Has anyone here traveled overseas while out of status and was admitted back to the US with an AP? Or did I give him wrong advice?

  18. My AOS receipt date is Sept 21, 2018 and my latest status shows that as of Feb 21, 2019 my EAD card was just mailed to me. (Yay!) It took 150 days from receipt date to EAD approval via the NBC.  The AOS interview will be a much longer wait. 😕

However, my AP receipt number did not show any update on the case status search. It still says “Case received “.  I was wondering if that was just a data entry delay or if my AP was not approved? 🤔

Hi guys. I've been following this thread and am in a similar situation - my interview was canceled before being scheduled. I am reporting some movement on my case, they actually updated my case to "ready to be scheduled for interview" again. I am coming from a F-1 in case someone is wondering. 863101807_ScreenShot2019-02-13at11_41_26am.thumb.png.980de70859bd91b6856943283bd74994.png

It’s great so see an update and movement on your case. Best wishes to you!

The San Francisco Field Office likely realized that it would be unfair to schedule you next, since you just filed on 09-21-18. I know of someone with PD 08-16-17 who got scheduled for interview on 01-09-19. In a nutshell, you have a lot of folks ahead of you.

Thanks for the explanation. I was not expecting to be scheduled for an interview  immediately as I do know it would take approximately 17-21 months to get the GC. I just wasn’t sure how a cancelled interview affects my case. Glad to know that it does happen and rescheduling an interview (or my place in the queue) is sometimes part of the whole process.
