  1. Oh great thread!! Learning to cook for a Brit is a tad difficult when alot of what he eats, I've never had or even seen for that matter!!

I have a question however, I desperately wanted to make him a Fruit Cake for Christmas (he was here) and I tried to find all the ingredients for it. When it came down to it, I wasn't able to find the right fruits. Apparantly our nasty fruit cake here "IS NOT" real fruit cake. Any tips or hints from some Brits already living here would be greatly appreciated :)

    Thanks so much!!

  2. I was just thinking...it saddens me greatly that obviously VSC is much faster than all the rest. I don't really understand why, to be honest..but I guess it's one more of those reality checks we as adults get all to often, that life just isn't fair. I do feel lucky and blessed..don't get me wrong, I just wish it was somewhat more uniformed. It's so hard to gadge where you are at in the process with such huge timing gaps. I don't really get the process, I'm just taking this all one doc. at a time. I can only hope I fill things out correctly and so on. Anyway...all this post is really is to just say, yeah it sucks. I am saddened by the delays that any of you feel. I've waited to be with Craig for such a very long time already, I had to "wait" through the whole process of my divorce which started with a one year mandatory seperation before I could file even a bit of paperwork.........oh well you don't need to hear those problems. I'm just sorry :(

  3. Just don't mix too many drugs!!

Dramamine should work great, I use it and sleep like a rock. Make sure you don't buy the 'non drowsy' kind & make sure you take it like a half an hour in advance.

Good Luck and have a safe trip!!

  4. How do we all endure? I guess just by doing it. I have my daughter (shared joint custody with my ex) so she takes up a chunk of my time. I focus on fixing up my house. I work full time that takes up a chunk. I go out with my friends and I talk about him constantly :) Everyone knows I'm not single!!

He and I talk on the phone ALOT!! I've recently switched my Verizon to have unlimited UK calling. It's only like...$40 per month. So I call him all the freaking time, poor guy!! He stays busy at work, with his friends and so on. But we make time for each other every week. For years we've kept Wednesday nights as sacred...we spend it alone usually having a phone date that lasts for hours!! We stay in touch with each other via the net too of course, but at least now I can listen to him a lot even if I can't "touch" him. Think of it like Slim said...it's really only the touching we're missing. If we stay close mentally ... the touching will happen.

At the end of the day he's worth it and I know it..so I wait.

    Good Luck on your journey!!

    ~Kim

  5. 1. Take an underwater basket weaving class at night school.

    2. Iron your underwear and socks.

    3. Teach cats to walk a tight wire.

    4. Watch championship bowling on TV then talk to all your co-workers about it constantly.

    5. Read War and Peace, backwards.

    6. Learn every dialect of the Chinese language.

    7. Sing the Batman theme incessantly wherever you go.

    8. Embroider your name on every stitch of clothing you own.

    9. Try to start conversations with as many 1-800 operators as you can per day.

    10. Write a book on 101 things to do while waiting on NOA2.

You are freaking brilliant (and oddly funny....I like you!!)

    :pop:

  6. YAYYYYYYYYYYYYYY! I got a letter today from the NVC. I have my case number, I actually called and spoke with a very very nice lady on the phone today as well (at the State Department) my package has already been rec'd in London at the consulate, now we just wait for packet 3 to arrive with my future husband.

    I am so freaking excited!!!!!!!!!!

  7. Hiya!

Being new to these boards, I just tonight stumbled onto the Idol topic!

I have an interesting story to share, here in Maryland, I had the pleasure of working with LaKisha up until she got her IDOL call. She worked with me at the bank all of Summer 06, through till the fall. She's on a leave of absence but from the way that girly sings she won't be coming back to banking! LOL

Anyway, I get to attend regular Kisha parties to support her with many of my co-workers. Throw your support her way, if you can! From one VJer to another ;)

Here's an interesting read from the local paper about her, and us at the bank. (I'm the Kim mentioned in the article btw)

    :)

    Enjoy!!

    ~Kim

  8. Breezy and Stephen Welcome :)

I'm half of a UK/US couple as well. I'm also most scared of the I-134 as well....this all sounds so familiar. I have joint custody of one child and Craig's had to wait for my divorce to finalize as well. The journey is long, but when you are really there for each other and really love each other it is soooooooooo worth it!! Can't wait to hear more from you guys, as we seem to be doing things fairly similarly!!

Let's here it for the britishamericans!! :)

    ~Kim

  9. My heart is truly breaking for you guys that are still waiting. This waiting for the next step is truly maddening! I'm sending all the good vibes I can!! May your road get straighter and your load less heavy (and may it happen FAST!!!)

Just a side note to the other Feb. Filers..can we keep in touch as to our progress as we travel together? Any packet 3's already in the midst of us??

We're all gonna make it, I just know it!!

    ~Kim

  10. No. It's because we have new members! :energetic:

Yes maybe but I remember it say if you a new member it good if you look for answer before you ask... maybe i wrong but i want to be understand of this so i read everything rather than be nurse from a bottle. If i dont do this then i will never educate myself but this is how i was teached in school. just me i think

Rather than being rude, when most of us are already under a lot of stress, you could choose which threads not to read?

Seems to me the "read" or "not read" road goes both ways.

  11. I am the US Citizen and I'm still struggling to figure out just what we're going to do for the wedding. Neither one of us want a City Hall Ceremony, so we've really started wondering about other romantic elopement options, and then a year or so from now have a "real" ceremony. I actually went dress shopping several months ago and of course I found one that I totally fell in love with. However given the unsure future of the USCIS I didn't buy it. Now I can't find it....

    Nothing about immigration is easy!!

But then again I think we might all just make the divorce rate drop, cause of what we've had to go through to get together!

    Good Luck with your search,

    Kim

  12. Hiya!

I'm Kim and I live in the US. I work in Banking. My finace is Craig and he lives in the UK. He's an Analytical Chemist. We got engaged on December 23, 2006. We've been friends for going on 7 years now, I met him via an internet chatroom around 2000. Our friendship has grown and blossomed over the years. In the last 4 years we've visited each other 7 times. Soon to be 8 when I get over there again in April. Some delays along the path of our journey was my pending divorce. That took ages!!!

Anyway, we're really just starting our journey. I understand from reading that the best and worst is yet to come. I sorta delusionaly thought that getting married the hard part would be behind us. But now I see that the waiting on the government to approve various documents can take even longer!!!

He's giving up alot to be with me. A great career...I hope it doesn't take him to long to get back into his field here, but I know he's going to get frustrated if he can't work for too long!

I make well above the poverty level to hopefully be his sole sponsor, but I don't have lots of money in the bank. As a recently divorced woman who has joint custody of her one daugther and no child support at all...this is going to be a pain, but we'll deal. Please someone (anyone) tell me once he's here it's not as hard as some folks make it sound.

Does anyone know about how long it takes to at least get a temporary work visa??

Thanks so much and so far I'm loving this community. There are days this is the only thing that keeps me sane!!

Misery loves company...VJ is proof positive of that!!

Thanks for the help so far!!

    :clock: ,

    Kim

  13. Visajourney is freaking amazing. I'd be going out of my mind right now if I couldn't come here regularly and read/vent. Whatever.

And you are right ...the freaking acronyms on here drive me f**** crazy!! At least it gives me something else to learn.

    =)

*still no touches and no clue what's going on now*

  14. It's so weird for me how everyone see's "touches" and so on. Mine still has the exact same message that my approval was sent on March 1st. But I see nothing else.

I just read on the NVC site to give it 3 weeks before calling them to see if they have your I-129F or not. So I guess I get to still just wait. I don't know if it's in the mail or anything :(

Roll on March 22nd...or better yet, let me hear something sooner!!
