My 2006 Tax Forms, include the information of my Ex. It was the last year we could fily jointly. As our marriage didn't end until January of 07. When including my tax forms, do you think I should provide a cover letter explaining his name on my tax forms and how I don't want his income to have any bearing on the financial support? Or simply explain why his name appears on my most recent tax forms?

hmmmm...how do you find out if your form you sent in is expired?? I'd like to check and make sure the one I sent Craig is fine before his interview date??
I'm sooooooooooo sorry that happened to you, but at least you know you are approved!! It's just a bit of paperwork now

If you can have access to Verizon, as your long distance service provider, they have an "un marketed" plan called Unlimited calling to the UK. I have it on my home land lind- I can call UK landlines for free, unlimited (it's about $40 per month for the service) the catch with mobiles however is this...on top of the monthly service fee's, calling mobiles then is like .08 cents a minute. That's the cheapest I've found it.
But I happen to love the service and the fact that I can call the mobile if I need to in a pinch and it never ends up costing me that much money
Good Luck!!

I am an american. I am marrying an opinionated Brit. Alan..I daresay, you and he have a lot in common. The point is..he doesn't relish in winding people up..ok face to face maybe he does, but he doesn't randomly wander the internet playing big bad instigator.
Now if I ignore the entire of this thread and go back to your first question. "How do I cope...because I view things differently"
Well you just do. You be who you are and if you piss a crapload of people off in the process then so be it. You are coming here to marry someone, so I can assume at least one american can hold her own with you.
Look at the sheer vastness of the size of the US...you can't say that people in the mid-west act exactly like they do in the east, or the east is exactly like the west. In my situation, I'm on the east coast surrounded by moster cities and the nation's capitol is just outside my doorstep. There are more beliefs, races and classes in my neighborhood then some countries see in entire cities...I would no sooner expect my neighbor to share all my belief's then I would expect my future husband to. Part of living in the world's melting pot is acceptance, in some cases whether you like it or not. You will HAVE to accept those who are different from you just as you HAVE to accept them. It's part of a living in a blended society.
You are moving to a country where the native born did indeed grow up with flags in the classroom, hand on heart, pledge of allegiance. This is all true, so what? It's what our culture does. If I moved to some tribal community in a jungle I wouldn't run around the net screaming about their tribal traditions, it is who they are. "OMG the people around me live in trees!" ........ your point is? You are a smart person, you were fully aware of what the US was like before you choose to immigrate here...what's changed now?
Now you just wanna cope...so I just say cope! Be a man, do your thing, live your life, take care of your family, get a job, keep looking for friends in different places until you can find your groove. Make like Nike and "just do it". This isn't rocket science, it's life. Live it. If in the end you hate it so much, move somewhere else...if that's what it takes.
This just really didn't seem like that hard of a question to deal with. But in the end remember...at least one american out of your 300 million, managed to keep your attention long enough for you to "WANT" to come here *lol*

SO's music eh?
Well music is Craig's life..I like to think it's a close second behind me, but somedays I'm not entirely sure! *L* His tastes are so varied. But I have to say out of England, he's gotten me into...Coldplay, Muse and The Doves.
I'm sure there's other ones as well.
I ,in turn, am trying my hardest to turn him onto the power that is ...Jimmy Buffett *L*

Just in case anyone reads this and was as worried as I was...He got a receipt handed to him in the police station when he ordered his Certificates..he never got another word in the mail and finally at about the 30 day mark, he got his police certs in the mail!!
There is always hope

Must Update, cause I am crazy excited! Craig got his police cert's today (in about 2 weeks less than 40 days!!) and off will go the final checklist tomorrow to the consulate. Now we wait for his interview date. But all the initial paperwork gathering is behind us!! I am soooooooo excited!!!

Oh my gosh Sue!! Congratulations on having an "ace in the hole"!! Yay for now having an interview date that you can think about and focus on.
I know the set backs are frustrating but at last you can see the light at the end of the tunnel!!

-
Ohhhhhhhhhhhhh!! Thanks for clearing that up
CR-1 is not a K-1 *whew* I feel better now
And TimsDaisy..yeah he's still never gotten a letter of receipt. He's assuming that the receipt he got handed in the police station (as he applied in person) will be record enough. Long about the 25th of this month is our 40 day mark!!

I'm confused, some of you are mentioning getting police certificates for both of you. Do I (the USC) need one as well? Why would I get mine from the UK...that doesn't make sense. Sorry to ask a lame question, I figured my own country would just do my background check.
Any help would be greatly appreciated

I'm getting a bit frustrated. I liked filing the I-129F better. those were all things I had to gather. It's killing me waiting for my fiance to gather all his stuff up...
Sue! I had to quote that one sentence, your post almost made me cry..it really is totally true though. When you are doing it all yourself, you know everyday what's going on, when you release it, it can make you 1000 times crazier..I wonder if Craig felt the same way when I was gathering information for the I-129F application??
-
That's comforting. Yeah he'd been trying all day today and apparantly since we haven't waited a full 40 days all he can do is wait. In the end I'm glad you finally got yours. I hope it's that speedy for us. We're on like day 30 so it's not that much longer to wait to figure out where it is!!

I just found out today that Craig never got a response. Nothing. He got the receipt from the police where he made the request and that's it. He made the request almost a full month ago. He's going to make some calls tomorrow, couldn't today as it was a bank holiday.
This is frustrating. He's not heard one single word...nothing. I really hope it's not lost and we aren't starting all over again from scratch

Is there a thread that sorta gives people an idea of how long the Police Cert's in the UK are taking, overall?
So far we've been waiting well over 2 weeks now..probably inching towards three weeks, but I'm not sure exactly when Craig mailed away for them. I'm a little ticked that the police told him they take like 10 - 20 days max, when I can see from reading here they generally take much longer!!
Anyway, he's had his medical and all, we're just waiting on those damned certificates so we can apply for his interview date.

Oh and in case anyone else reads this a Social Security card is NOT valid ID. Unless you're over 65. Needing a SSN# helps sure...but it's not needed.
A photo ID followed by proof of US address..that's basically what it comes down to.
This is what banks have to look for when opening accounts : Something that proves what the opener of the account looks like, and something that "PROVES" where the opener lives in the US.
Just remember that and everything else should be smooth sailing, unless of course you're dealing with stupid bank personnel!
-
Here's some helpful hints from a Head Teller with a bank.
Valid forms of ID should include his Passport and a form of ID that verifies his US Address. Try adding him to your Electric bill or your Cable bill. Honestly that's all they'll need. If any bank argues with you, slam the Patriot Act in their face.
I can give you a full list of ID's needed if you think that'll help

Not everyone that went through Vermont are that fast.....some of us are still waiting
Congratulations!!!
-
Thanks for the help.
I guess we'll be staying in the US....

*applauds* Many heartfelt Congrats on the upcoming interview. I seriously doubt ours will be that fast, he hasn't mailed in the much needed "checklist". We're hoping maybe for a July interview. But who knows...I'm so tired of feeling manic all the time! lol...I hate moving at the speed of government!

So London is moving quickly?
If he has sent in some of the paperwork, but not his checklist (since he's waiting on the police certs) what happens now?
Anyone have a clue?

I was wondering if anyone can tell me, while in the K1 Visa process, once my foreign fiance' arrives, can he go on a honeymoon...I mean outside of the US?
We were looking into going to Jamaica, but I don't know if he can travel or not.
Any help would be appreciated.
Thanks!!

Sorry so much I've been away, or quiet.
I have nothing to report...Craig had a successful Medical.
He's still waiting for his police certificates and his interview date. My whole heart is hoping he'll get his appointment at least by June!!
I luckily got to see him for a week just this month, so that was something.
Right now I'm just keeping on with day to day stuff and waiting!!!
I believe I read someone from our group is the first to get their visa......well CONGRATULATIONS!!
Here's hoping we'll all follow soon!!
-
You guys are the best
Thank you so much for the well wishes...and for understanding what it feels like to hope the time drags slower as a snail!!
We're all going the same time........wheeeeeeeeeeee!! Maybe we can compare notes on our return!!
Take care and for those others traveling, may your journey be fast and safe!!

Affidavit of Support
in US Embassy and Consulate Discussion
Posted
No No...I have submitted a certified copy of my divorce decree and so on. I was just concerned about his $$ and name being all over my tax forms. That's all.
I will adopt the idea to place Affidavit, then letters of my financials including paystubs, followed by my W-2's and finally the actual tax forms.
Thanks for the tips guys!!
