This week marks six whole months of administrative processing post successful interview with no 221g so we hired a lawyer last week. We're hoping for some good news as she was completely blown away by some of the things the embassy has said to us (like that the visa was issued in January), the fact that our case is so clean cut (no criminal records etc, no divorces, no previous filings) and nothing was ever requested after the fact and our case has never once been updated on the CEAC site. So, here's to hoping she gets some answers and results as two senators and my congressman have abandoned their support for our case. 😏

Omgggg we r in the same position and am just soo faustrated!! We don’t even know wat to do!😞😞

Thank you. I think we are ok with it taking time because we will be together and will work until we are able to come back to the US together. This isnt for sure the route we want to take but we have already been waiting for a very long time, our NOA2 took 8 months to come. We have only been reading negative experiences with being on AP out of Cairo, people have been waiting for 9 to 10 months and still havent heard anything from the embassy or given any guidance at all, we dont want to wait that long.

Hello, my fiancé is in the same position. Were you finally approved?

We cannot determine how long it will take to complete this process. It is not uncommon for this procedure to take a few months or even longer. We will contact applicants as soon as their visa is ready.

How did it all for you before you sent in your passport? My fiancé has his passport as well.  Please share if possible

My fiancé is Ghanaian. Sorry I can't help with how long it will take, but the general rule of thumb is that if they have your passport, it's a good sign. In general, patience is really needed for this whole process. Lots & lots of patience.

Aaw that’s very nice. Me and my fiancé are All Ghanaians. So now that he had his passport is it a bad sign?🥺🥺. And thank you. I know it a lot of patience💕🙏🏽🙏🏽

He doesn't have to return to Ghana to obtain a police certificate. He can obtain one while living in another country. It's more expensive, but relatively quick. Let me know if you need the link & process, I'm happy to share as we had to obtain one from there while living abroad as well.

Yes we did it whiles here and he got it on Monday so we sent it in and they said they will let us know when the review is done. Just wondering how long it gonna take. She said 3-one week for him so don’t know. Are you Ghanaian?

They give the passport back when a case may take longer so 1. they don't have to keep track of it and 2. you may need it for travel during the waiting time. I think there is a #3 and that is some people just give up and either leave their passport at the Embassy for them to dispose of or they ask the Embassy to return it and that's an additional expense and procedure for the Embassy.

I think since he has to go back to Ghana to get his police certificate he was given his passport. I don’t even know.

Did he ask for the Passport back, normally they hang on to it if it is likely to be quick.

No he was handed the passport back and he was told he will be contacted when the passport is needed. I think she knew it would be needed for the Ghanaian police certificate. Or? But they kept my original info and some of his.

The Italian Consulate knows about Italian procedures, would not know about other Countries so will need to refer like anything else things out of the normal take longer.

Oh ok. I now understand you better. Thank you for the clarification. Now am freaking the hell out😮😮. We attached copies of outlet wedding confirmation letter which is to be held 21st of this month and I also told her it my fourth time being in Italy.💁‍♀️🤭

The DS-5535 is taking a lot longer than a week to be processed at this time. There is a thread going where others who have been asked to submit the DS-5535 are keeping track of how long it is taking to issue a visa. It seems to take an average of about 1 year now. I hope your outcome is different and it does only take a week or so as the CO said, but I would also be prepared for a longer wait.

Thank you for the reply and we are hoping for a shorter wait time because I have to return to the US and it kind of faustration looking at all these wait times. I appreciate the kind reply.
