Only Obama thinks blowing around a half million per job is a job's program.
If you are looking at money to paychecks, then welfare is the best program out there. There is little overhead cost. Infrastructure projects require equipment, materials, services (insurance, transportation), etc. Which also indirectly benefits the companies providing those things.

There's a distimction between spending wisely as an individual and people indulging in impluse spending. We do need people to buy goods and services to provide the demand for the economy to run but just buying junk is not a good idea especially if you can't afford the goodies. I manage to live without a HDTV and none of them are made in this country to my knowledge (no TVs period) so they don't create jobs here except for shipping and retail sales jobs.
I wouldn't worry about a lack of consumerism in America as we have the collective tendency to spend rather than save compared to many other countries.
Manufacturing jobs are getting replaced due to automation as much as outsourcing.

It's not that there is huge surge in new jobless claims but there simply hasn't been enough jobs created to pick up the slack. It's like digging a deep hole and climbing part way out= the economy is still in the hole.
Haven't heard much from the unemployed on this forum so I'm assuming it's the old case of a recession is when you know someone who lost a job but a depression is when you lost yours and can't find another one quick enough.
There are jobs, but unfortunately, many of the openings require a college degree. Many of the unemployed don't have any post secondary education. The unemployment rate for those with college degrees is much lower than those without.

Is the converse also true? Remember when Ben Bernanke talked about seeing "green shoots" in the economy back in spring 2009? Did talking up the economy help?
The herd mentality isn't smart as fools are buying gold at high prices and shunning homes which may be undervalued and a bargain if you've got the money. There's a lot of pent up consumer demand out there and that is going be a big factor.
Absolutely, look at the run up to the recession, how many people bought into the sham that house prices never go down?
Can a single person talk up the economy? Probably not, need others to support it.

It's a distinction without a difference. Financial control is control.
But its not financial control. We are not talking a planned economy like Cuba or the Soviet Union. Instead the questions deal with what sort of presences and influence the government has in the economy. Putting a tariff on a particular commodity does not control the market like the government telling a company to make x number of widgets.

The irony is that focusing on news like this, can easily become a self-fulfilling prophecy, since much of the economy is driven by peoples emotions.

These types of surveys are just pop quizzes. I thought it was interesting that the 'maybe/don't know' category is ignored completely, especially in the data at the bottom of the page with the yes/no always equaling 100% when I know I can't be the only one that decided maybe/don't know was a good substitute for 'not enough information' or 'yes or no' do not give any weight to the complexities of the question. However, of course for those who like to pop people into ideological boxes will love this quiz.
Humans give names to anything and everything. Sort of making sense of all the chaos. You might criticize labelling but it does give a common point of reference when talking about something, even if its not completely accurate. I guess on the other hand, labels can be used to dismiss someone entirely.

Something I don't understand is how the second and third ideals relate to each other for many so far. For instance, mine says capitalist purist, leaving the market to do whatever it will do, while the next thing says I am all for laws.
Those who got social capitalist, it says they want the gov to give ppl jobs and healthcare, yet are next called libertarian and it says "You believe that the government's job is primarily to protect people from harming other people, but after that they should mind their own business, and if we give the government too much power in controlling our lives, it can lead to fascism."
Seems contradictory to me in both examples.
It comes down to how much influence should the government have in the economy and business vs. how much influence should the government have in peoples personal lives, in what they can or can't do or what they can get access to.

Conservative/Progressive score: 10
You are a social progressive. You generally consider yourself a humanist first. You probably think that religion and patriotism go too far in society. You probably consider yourself to be a citizen of Earth first rather than a citizen of your country.
Capitalist Purist/Social Capitalist score: 7
You are a Moderate Capitalist. You support an economy that is by and large a free market, but has public programs to help people who can't help themselves or need a little help. Pretty much you believe in the American economy how it currently is.
Libertarian/Authoritarian score: 2
You are libertarian. You think that the government is making way too many unnecessary laws that are taking away our innate rights. You believe that the government's job is primarily to protect people from harming other people, but after that they should mind their own business, and if we give the government too much power in controlling our lives, it can lead to fascism.
Pacifist/Militarist score: 1
You're a Pacifist. You are angered that the United States thinks it should dominate the world through its military force. You think that the only time war is necessary is when we are in direct danger of being attacked. You also believe the US spends way too much of its money on defense, as we can practically cut it in half and still easily defend ourselves, and use that money to fix all our economic problems.
Overall, you would most likely fit into the category of Democrat

This would be true if people saved by putting bank-notes under their beds (if this were happening, though, the government would likely start printing more money to prevent deflation). But saving for most people means putting money in banks or buying stocks, bonds, or other liquid assets. It's not consumerism that drives the economy but production and ingenuity. People saving means that it's easier to get capital which leads to economic growth.
You can invest all you want in production or invention. But what are you going to do with all your widgets if no one wants to buy them because they are busy saving?

The poll pinpoints some poor decisions made by many Americans. Blowing your money on stuff you really don't need and can't afford seems simple enough until someone hands you that credit card.
Some people are catching on that a home is a place where you live and may not be your personal piggybank because there isn't an endless line of fools willing to pay more for a house than the last fool who bought the house.
The last part is predictable but I don't see a lot positive statistics to back the idea we are out of the recession.
Unfortunately, consumer spending is a large part of the economy. People spending less will mean that a recovery will ultimately take longer. Welcome to the paradox of thrift.

I am trying to file F129I for my girlfriend. (I like to bring to USA where I live)
Let me tell you about our status
1)we met on the net
2)we met in person already
3)I visited her family
4)We are engaged. (she has her engaged me ring)
5)I have all my receipts, airplane tickets, pictures, etc.
The question is this:
We met in the Philippine but she works abroad.
Can she get the interview in the country where she is working or she needs to go back to Philippine for the interview?
Thanks
If she is legally residing in another country, she can have her interview there.

I am so naive about this whole visa issues, how do i start in applying for a visa for my fiancee, What kind of paperwork do we need. "HELP"
Click the Guides button above.
Fiancee visa is K-1. There are several requirements like having met in the past two years. You can follow the guide for more info.

No. We have just decided. Originaly she was only going to visit.
Technically, visitor visas, student visas and alike cannot be used to adjust status. Although there is a loophole, if upon last entry you did not intent to immigrate, and then you met someone got married, you could file to adjust status. Being that you were already married, it might be harder to prove intent. If the USCIS officer decides that your case warrants visa fraud, it will result in a lifetime ban. Many people have successfully adjusted from non-marriage visas, but it is something to be aware of.
Back to your original question, you want to follow this guide. http://www.visajourney.com/content/otheraos

I am trying to fill out my wife's I-485. We got married in the US when she was here on a J-1 visa. Since then she has gone back to her country and has returned on a B-2 tourist visa. Which box do I check in "part 2 application type" of the I-485.
Also, where can i find her non-imigrant visa number on her visa?
Thanks in advance for any help.
Did she have the intent to immigrate upon last entry?

Corporation predate the US Constitution:
Congress shall make no law respecting an establishment of religion, or prohibiting the free exercise thereof; or abridging the freedom of speech, or of the press; or the right of the people peaceably to assemble, and to petition the Government for a redress of grievances.
He is talking about the concept of corporate personhood which was established much later.

I just sent in my I-129F form in on 6-23. My fiance is from Indonesia, but is currently living in the UK as a UK resident. I didn't think to mention that she will not be returning to Indonesia, and would like the inverview to take place in the UK. Should I wait until I get my for NOA, or send a letter right away not knowing if it will be connected with my I-129F form.
Thank you.
Jeff
The place is determined off the current address provided for the beneficiary. Provided that they are a legal resident of that country.

I have no doubt that New York City has higher wages per capita than Dallas or Houston does. But the costs to live in NYC (and LA too) far outstrip the costs to live in TX. The side benefit of living in a low cost state is that your federal taxes are lower at the same standard of living as a more expensive place in the north-east.
Certain things like housing, transportation and food costs do vary and are much cheaper in Texas for the most part. But most goods purchased in a store are the same price in Texas as they are in NYC. A washing machine for home depot is still going to cost the same, but the cost is less significant for a new yorker than a Texan.

Well it is good to imagine that having a good business climate means nothing to the average person but then again it is those businesses that give jobs out and even contributes to the tax base in many other ways and has to use the services in the area it is based in. They also have to use other businesses in the area for their own use to stay in business and that means jobs for others.
Now if that business has a choice of being somewhere that it is taxed at 90 percent or zero percent then where is it going to think about operating? Now couple that with other factors like quality of life, infrastructure, education, climate and so on. Being at the top or near the top in many areas is very attractive to businesses so any state can't just try to work on one area to improve their odds at attracting businesses but need to work with others to try on many areas to make it all look better.
Taxes are only a single factor out of many which would drive a company to locate in one place or another.
Even with the state low taxes, it doesn't benefit the average person very much. Income per capita are well below the national average. Granted in some places the cost of living would be pretty low.

Lets see, Texas biggest industries are defence and energy.
Defence is booming for obvious reasons. Ironically driven in a large part by federal government spending.
As for energy, it has a lot of open areas for wind farms. Demand for oil hasn't significantly dropped due to the recession as well as supply is pushing into its peak.
Now if Texas relied much more heavily on housing, finance or the auto industry, the story would be diffrent.

I suppose the lesson for McChrystal here is that if you want to play politics, learn to be a politician first. The game is rather unforgiving of mistakes.

You don't mess with Big Pork. ThinkGeek is using trade-marked slogan and copyrighted material to drive interesting in their site. That in turn is making them sell more products. This is illegal. And the cease and desist letter isn't a laughable thing. I'm sure Big Pork's lawyers aren't as much of #######-clowns as ThinkGeek is making them out to be.
Parody is often protected. They can send C&D letters are they want, but its not going anywhere.
