  1. It is part of the culture of the Philippines. Annie is constantly helping her family with her income already, and we plan to help them when she arrives here. But we are both very aware of the importance of controlling it.

Annie plans to work in the USA, and will use part of her income to assist her family, part of it for our trips to the Philippines, and I will be the one earning the money to live on. But that's our plan, and we've talked about it many time, already. She's also always saying, "I will use part of my income to save for the future, too." lol, but she's a good business woman.

You need to take time to discuss the needs of the family, and agree on what is important, and not important. What you can afford, and what you can't afford.

And very important, never promise her family anything, unless you really plan to do it, and know you can do it. It will reflect badly on HER, if you can't. I've always been very careful not to promise anything, and then when I feel the need and know I can afford it, then I help.

  2. OK, we will get his passport also. How does it work as her son. Will I have to adopt him or will be be my son after we marry? His father took off and has never been seen after she became pregnant. Hope that doesnt delay him coming with her.

Big question here.. Is the father listed on the Birth Certificate? If I remember correctly, you then also have to go through some additional steps for the Philippine government to prove abandonment, or get approval of the "missing" parent. This is coming off of my memory from the old Asawa Forums.

    Anyone know more about this?

Getting a passport, visa, and getting married will not make him your adopted son. You will still have to go through the normal process of adoption.

  3. I had to check "other", because I assume you mean in person.

Annie has talked to my family on the phone, chatted with them on YM, and has shared a Webcam Christmas with us. But she has not met any of them in "real".

  4. Talk about double reaction.. I was so excited to see the check was cashed..

Checked the images on my online banking, clicked to see the image of the back of the check, anticipating getting the case number..and so many stamps and things printed on it, but the one thing I cannot read.. THE CASE NUMBER..waaaaaaaaaaaaa..lolz

Oh well, I'll just sit back and wait on the mail..

  5. Not about your K1, but let's try to save you some money, and talk on the phone even more..

Go to http://www.pinoycalls.com sign up for the Mabuhay Calls plan. They will put a bag phone (Cell Phone) at her residence, and you can call that phone for $59.00/month unlimited calling. They also have an option for a smaller hand held cell phone now, but I think the monthly fee is slightly higher.

Ann and I have used this for a long time, and 95% of the time it works great. of course the quality of other calls to the Philippines is only about 95% of the time too.

I don't remember how much the initial setup fee was, but you'd be saving money the first month.

Good Luck and Congrats on your engagment. Hope your K1 goes smoothly and quickly!

  6. Just a short 8 days ago, I dropped my packet in the mail.. Just last Thursday it was received in Nebraska..

And now 2 to 3 times a day, I check my online bank statement to see if the check is cashed, even though I know it only updates at night..I desperately want that case number so I can register on the USCIS site, so then I can make myself even more crazy checking that site all the time..

    I've officially lost my mind..

Love is a wonderful thing.. Thanks Annie.. See what you did to me..

  7. Something maybe all of you'd like...

If you get a problem like that, try going to http://housecall.trendmicro.com

The online scanner that Trend offers is great and actually cleans the virus/worm etc.., compared to many of the online scanners just telling you "You have a virus, buy our program".

If you chat on YM with people in the Philippines, be very aware. There are numerous Yahoo Messenger attached viruses running rampant there. I have fixed several PC's remotely, using LogMeIn to access their PC's.

  8. I acquired a Personal Epassporte Visa card from Epassporte.com. Ann keeps this with her, and I can just transfer dollars from my bank account to her Visa card.

Then she just goes to the local ATM and gets the money.

I didn't like Western Union, fees were too high. Inconvenient at times for both of us. And with online banking and the Epassporte, I can be anywhere and transfer the money if I need to.
