Permission, not just acknowledgement.  Permission to become a permanent resident of the US.

That said, we don't know which country they'll be coming from. If the Philippines, you need NOTHING if the father wasn't married to the mother when the child is born.  It's possible some other countries may require court ordered custody, to relocate the child to another country.  What international law requires is "permission".  Full Custody that is unconditional, removes the requirement for "permission".

I have a question to add to this... So, my husband is coming from the Philippines, and we would like his two children to come to the US also. He and the mother were never married. He has been the one raising them in the Philippines, and she has been in Hong Kong since they were babies. Will we need her permission to relocate to the US, or will things be more complicated since their mother is out of the country?

Our interview appointment was at 7:10 am.  We arrived about 6 am and stood in the 7:10 line.  I forgot my watch at home so I’m not able to give the exact times of the step by step process.

We start the process about 6:30 outside when my fiancé was  are asked to put her passport in a ziploc bag.  Then she were asked for the DS-160 and they looked for my fiancé’s name and put a sticker on her DS-160.  My fiancé goes thru the foreigner door and my daughter and I go thru the US Citizens side.  We sat in the chairs outside for about 5 minutes before we all got in line to go inside the Embassy.

Once inside we did the bag check and went to our designated area.  When it was our turn we went to the 1st pre-screen window.  The lady at the pre-screen window even asked me some questions  and I seen from the packet in front of her she had everything I mailed in our I-129f packet.  After the pre-screen we sat down a bit then my fiancé  went to the finger scan window.

After the finger scan we sat and waited in the interview area.  People with odd numbers on their sticker went to one side and even numbers went to the other.  When it was our turn to be interviewed the Counsular asked if our daughter was my biological daughter and if she had her US passport then he politely instructed me to sit down and if he needed anything from me then he would send for me.  I gave my fiancé a HUGE folder with a lot of supporting documents.  I sat down maybe for 2 minutes and here comes my fiancé with a HUGE smile on her face.  APPROVED!!!!  He did not ask for one piece of paper.  My fiancé said he asked her 4 questions:  was she ever married, was I ever married, what is my work and do our daughter have US Citizenship..

When we left the Embassy it was 8:05 am.  So the interview process took about 1 hour and we was back in time at our hotel for the free breakfast buffet, lol.

Congratulations!!!! Reading the ratings for Manila continues to give me hope while waiting. I’m happy it went smoothly for you all. Hopefully soon we will have our interview also! All it the waiting and not knowing when and/or if is tiresome. Cheers to your approval!

  3. Thank you both for your replies. Turns out I was not able to log on from where I was when I posted the question. I waited a couple days and deleted cookies and tried logging in at a different location, and it worked fine. Thanks again for your help. All of this hurry up and wait business has me exhausted. I hope you are all well and journeys are going smoothly. Cheers!

  4. Has anyone else noticed that the CEAC website for Immigrant Visa login is not functioning? I tried to log on yesterday to check the status of my DS260 and AOS to see if there have been any changes, even though I know I will recieve an email once NVC has processed the paperwork... I'm just biting my nails and getting antsy. I tried logging on again today, and the same problem persists. (I fill in all the blanks to log in and hit 'continue,' but nothing happens except it looks like the page is waiting to load. It never does, it just gives a new captcha). I hope you are all doing well out there wherever you are in your journeys. ❤️
