  1. is this another example of the employees at social security who don't know what to do with K1 visa holders?

That's exactly what it is. As long as the I-94 has not expired then you shouldn't have any issues. Besides, an I-90 is to replace an exisiting Permanent Resident card which he obviously doesn't have.

I would go to a different Social Security office and see if you end up with a more knowledgeable person.

At the POE, did they stamp the I-94 itself, or just put a stamp near the visa in the passport?

  2. Today we went to get Gbenga a social security card. I followed all the instructions and took his Nigerian driver's license and passport (with the K-1 visa and POE stamp in it) for identification. We also took his I-94 form as instructed and a copy of the marriage certificate (just in case).

Well, the employee at social security said he can't issue a social security card because they didn't put a stamp on the I-94 form, only in the passport. So he gave us a form that talks about filing for a replacement I-90 (what is an I90?) and told us to make an infopass appointment and after we've met with them, then we can come back ( and wait ANOTHER 90 minutes in their stupid office) to apply again for the social security card.

When you all entered the U.S, did they stamp your I-94 or just your passport? Are we missing a stamp because the employee at the POE messed up? Or is this another example of the employees at social security who don't know what to do with K1 visa holders? Do we have to go to an infopass appointment or should we just go to a different social security office and try again?

  3. Did any of your SO's have to have more vaccinations after they got to the U.S.? We went to get Gbenga's second Hep B and the lady told us that he has to have another MMR, another Tetanus(with diptheria and pertusis), a varicella, Hep A, etc. in order to apply for the AOS.

Is this true? Does he need more shots? And if so, does it have to be done at a civil surgeon's office or can we just go to my doctor's office?

    PLEASE HELP!!!!!

    Thanks,

    Jenn

  4. Congratulations!!!!! I remember before you ever filed, time seems to fly. Well for me it did, not so sure you would say that :) Enjoy each other, I can't wait to hear the details of the interview.

Really...time sure does fly. Queen Jenn, I also remember you before you even met him in person. It seems just like yesterday *sniff*. I have been rooting for you two. Congratulations!!!!:dance::dance:

Aw, thanks. *lump in throat* It's been a long time coming, but he is DEFINITELY WORTH WAITING FOR!!!

THANKS TO ALL OF YOU FOR YOUR HELP AND SUPPORT!!!

  5. He's finally here!!! His interview was on June 24, 2008 and picked up the visa on July 2. He flew into Atlanta on July 5 and my mom and I met him at the airport. We returned to Salt Lake City today.

Our MANY prayers have been answered and we are finally together forever!!!

(Interview details will come soon) :D

  6. GREAT IDEA!!! I LOVE CAMPING!!!

It's usually quite inexpensive. Also, there are RV rentals that aren't too bad (although gas is a bit expensive) and if you get a hardside camper, your neighbors won't hear things that they would be able to if you're in a tent

What kind of things, Queen Jenn? :innocent:

Ahem. . . . . You oughta know, your man is here :D

  7. Invest in a tent and a couple of sleeping bags and a cooler. The take a look at reserveamerica.com

Campgrounds are usually less than 50 a night. You can also find ones with cabins for those not quite as into sleeping on the ground.

  8. My fiance picked up his packet and they gave him the forms. The DS 156 form is from 2003. The one online is from 11 2007 and says other editions are obsolete.

So my question is, should my fiance use the form they gave him? Is that going to create a problem? Or should he go to a cafe and print the 2007 version?

  9. It costs me $.20 to send an international text. I have Verizon and they have a texting plan, but international texts are not included in the plan. So even if I bought the texting plan, they'd still charge me $.20 per text. It gets expensive if you text much, so we tried to limit it to a few per week.

  10. I have not made repeated trips. I don't have the funds for that. In fact, the first and only trip I made was later than we had hoped because the money wasn't there. I used frequent flier miles for the plane ticket and a friend got a really good deal for us on the hotel.

He has never asked me for money. And really, the only money I have sent was for things that are related to immigration and the wedding. I did send him some money when I got a bonus at work because I figured if he were here, I'd share it with him anyway so I sent some.

I already have the money for the AOS as well. I knew that I would be paying for the immigration related things. I'm lucky that my dad is paying for the wedding (I'm the only daughter, after all :D )

  11. As my mom always says, "Be Safe, Hve Fun - in that order." I hope you have a wonderful trip and are able to come home together. (Eat some of that WONDERFUL pineapple for me!!!)

  12. Ugh!! Frustrating with a capital F. Do you mind me asking what the age difference is? I'm older than my fiance by about 3 years (hope that doesn't land us in AP, too). I'm sorry you're having to be in AP, but there IS light at the end of the tunnel.

    ......... Scrambles for flashlight

    Thanks!

I'm hoping you'll only need a SMALL flashlight because you're so close to the end of the tunnel. :D

  13. Thanks

I never imagined it would take this long . The interview is after the notice expires , When I got the notice I was thinkng that I would be reunited by then but no. :crying:

He has told me that the police certificate and medical are supposed to be within 3 weeks of the interview . Is this true ? I wish the man would use a computer so he could send a copy to me. Doing this with phone and text messages is so difficult.

Does he have to travel to his village and where he was born for the police certificates or just get one in Lagos ?

I don't know about it having to be done within three weeks of the interview. But he'll definitely want to go for the first medical soon - they are booking the second exam like a month out. If he goes to the first medical within the next week, the second one will be within three weeks of his interview date.

For the Police Clearance Certificate, he can get one in Lagos. It will cover everywhere he has lived IN NIGERIA. If he has lived outside of Nigeria, he will need a police certificate for those countries (if any).

He also needs a birth certificate, if he doesn't already have one. He can get that in Lagos, too.
