  1. The best way to learn Arabic (if you just want to converse) is to learn the words and then try to put them into sentences. I would suggest trying to converse with your SO. As for the alphabets, they are not hard at all, its actually trying to put them together to form words that can be a little of a challenge.

I worked in the ME for about 7 years and had a good oppertunity to pick up the language since I worked with and had to interact with a lot of people who knew little to no English, but I suppose it will be a little more of a challenge for you since you only have one person who you could converse with.

As a person who is not of ME decent I can tell you that it is a wonderful learning experience :)

    Good luck

  2. My case was with the NVC for less then a week. I believe that is average for K-1 processing. A lot of petitions that are NVC bound get stuck at USCIS, as they wait for their boxes to fill up before sending a bundle to the NVC.

Also, rumor has it they hired a tortoise to move the mountains of paperwork from USCIS to NVC. I guess that's better then hiring the hare...

Or the hare took half the paperwork and fell asleep midway, thats why some of the paperwork reach NVC faster and some take longer. :P

  3. Yup, never hurts to call and ask if they can accomodate your request. Would a later date help? You could also ask if they cannot schedule you in earlier if they can get you a later date.

  4. Updated - added a Status column for any differentials..

    thanks for the input guys!

glad you all like it =)

I was so proud when I was done last night.. only took two hrs of checking and cross checking... (as I'm sure you can see from the posts here)

It looks great and very user friendly. Good job.

  5. Agreed.

Print off the link from the travel.state.gov website and take along with the you to the interview.

I had emailed the same question to the Consulate here in Montreal about working in Kuwait and a Police Clearance and they replied that it was not needed.

I printed off the email along with the screen print from the website that stated it was not required. I was asked at the interview but I told them that it was not needed.

Forget about that certificate, the consular officers are instructed by DoS to waive the requirement for police cert from UAE unless you are living in the UAE.
    Police Records

Available, only if applicant is physically present in the UAE.

Police certificates may be obtained by any person, regardless of nationality, by personally appearing at the Central Police Headquarters located in the emirate of residence or former residence. When appearing to request a police certificate, the applicant should provide recent photographs, a letter from the requesting authority, the date of residence in the emirate, and their passport.

Not available by mail. Post recommends that consular officers waive the general requirement to obtain police certificates unless the applicant lives in the UAE.

  6. Hi Liz,

Just wanted to say Galateia was scheduled July 5 but she has asked to be rescheduled. Not sure if you want to add re-scheduled interview column to the worksheet.

I guess you could just change it when she has her new interview date and put an astrix to show it was re-scheduled.
