Nevermind, I figured it out. When I add a household member, the prompt asks for selecting the related sponsor as the joint sponsor. Thanks for your tip Parisa_1234!

I initially added the i864a under my joint sponsor, because I thought it belongs to the joint sponsor's spouse. So according to NVC's response note, I need to add household member and upload the i864a there, but upload js's spouse's supporting documents to "joint sponsor" tab? Thanks.

I submitted everything to CEAC for my wife’s IR-1 three weeks ago and we finally got the first feedback from NVC. We have a joint-sponsor who has a spouse. Everything was accepted except my joint-sponsor’s spouse i-864A, it said:
Quote“Please add {joint sponsor’s spouse} as {Joint sponsor}’s Household Member, and submit all of their documents under {joint sponsor}’s name.”
I am not sure what that means, since I have done the following when we submit:
- Joint sponsor and his spouse file taxes jointly and tax transcripts was upload (past 3 years)
- Uploaded the i864A for js's spouse and her docs in js's Additional AOS support documentation
- In js's i864: Part 5: Household size has included his married spouse.
- In Part 6 "Income you are using from any other person who was counted in your household size": js's spouse was put down as Person 1 with current income

Thank you Ryan and Randy, that is very helpful. I will get the marriage certificate certified asap.

Sorry for the confusion. We were married in the US and received an US marriage certificate. We don't have any Chinese marriage certificate (her Hukou still said she has not been married).
My question is: For the rest of her US immigration visa progress, will the US marriage certificate be sufficient enough? Do we need anything else for marriage? Should we also update her Hukou to married status and notarized that for the NVC and consulate?
Thanks.

Hey everyone,
Our I-130 petition has been approved and I am preparing documents for NVC IV package. My wife (Chinese Citizen) and I (USC) married and obtained the marriage certificate at the US.
Question: For my wife's visa, do we need to update her Hukou to show that we are married in the US? Thanks.

Thank you for advise, missileman. I added a letter to briefly explain my VISA situation and I have just sent out the I-130 package to Chicago. I intend to move back to the US by the end of this year, so I guess I will need good evidence of re-establishing my US domicile.

Hello Everyone,
I am glad to find VisaJourney as me and my wife are trying to figure out the IR-1 process.
I find that my situation is a bit unique, hopefully there is someone here who also had a similar experience for help.
I am a US citizen preparing to get my Chinese wife to move back to the US together.
Here's a few exceptions to my situation:
- I was born in Hong Kong, so I have a HKID and the Mainland Travel Permit
- I only used the Mainland Travel Permit to live/work/enter and exit China. I never used my US passport to get into China.
- I met my wife while I am in China, we are still living together in China.
- We got our marriage certificate in the US
I am wondering if I need to explain my situation in the i-130 and other processes? If so, What kind of documentation would be good to provide?
Thanks!

Our first CEAC submission was on May 18. We then waited an entire month only to be rejected because we filled out our joint sponsor's household member incorrectly. Resubmitted on June 15, then waited until July. It was truly dreadful!
