a question for anyone who's done the application.
since I live w my parents... I had my mom write a letter for us. My question is should I send her ID copy or a utility bill along with it? or is just her letter enough?
-
hello all... wondering if anyone can answer this....
we (wife and I) bought domestic flight tickets to go to mid-west US side last year. to attend for a family function.
but this flight got canceled like half hour before take off. due to some kind of weather issue of the day.
so this trip got canceled.
is it a good idea to use the e-tickets/emails for this flight? as proof - as it mentions both our names.
or is it a bad idea since the flight got canceled?

Good morning Tuesday, indeed!

Delivered on 8/8
Payment credited on 8/13
Letter arrived today, 8/18
so they got it Aug 8... and the letter came here 8/18
so pretty much 10 days...
did u send via USPS? or FedEX/UPS?

since in my case... we are living with our parents (rent free)... do I have to send anything else along with the letter from parents? like utility bill under their name or a copy of their IDs?

The front and back is very necessary
I mean how do people take both front and back copies on the same page? I know it's important
or is it OK to take one side on one page, another side on another page?

September 27, 2020.
Take a photo using your phone and merge them in Paint or any photo processing tool to fit in same page.
Sept 27 is 2 months prior (person mentioned expiry of Nov 27). I don't think that fits in with the 90 days narrative.

How is everyone taking copies of ID cards and the green card? do you have both the front copy and back copy of the card on the same side of the paper?

It is preferable, imo, to wait until a day after the window opens to sign & mail the package. Too many people mail it before the window even opens.....then worry about it arriving too early.
we will be writing a cover letter... is it the norm for both me and my spouse to sign on it (bottom)?
my mom is writing a small letter as well... as we have been living with her rent free. do u think it should be notarized or not?

I received the rejection letter today in the mail and the reason was that I filed it a little too soon for them I guess!!! I can’t believe that because they received my package the 13th of July and my green card expires 10/09/2020, please tell me if I did file prior to the 90 day period, this is absurd. Waisted a month for non sense
thanks for the info!
so I suppose it's OK if I'm a week or two late... just to be safe I suppose.

I did and I included a copy of his birth certificate as evidence of a bona fide marriage. It asks to list all your children and also asks whether the child resides with you (yes) and if the child is applying with you (no). I like to err on the side of the caution with these forms and so to be safe, I included him.
we are expecting our first child in Nov. and since her GC expires in Nov, when we file our package in Sept- should we just include medical forms confirming wife's pregnancy? cuz we obviously don't have children as of yet. is like a short letter from the doctor necessary?
-
technically would I be part of Aug or Sept? as my wife's GC expires Nov 26. I guess it's best to file it post-Sept 1 to be safe.
-
please do let us know the reason it was rejected when you get a response back.

Hey @TonyK I would suggest have ur mother write an Affidavit staying that you and Your wife live there from the date## and the details that your don't have to pay the lease or the rent as You are living with family. If u both have driving license or state I.d,try including that atleast to show u both have same address .And if you can Get doctor's note that would be fine .if not then u can add by yourself the details that you two are expecting a new member Soon in your cover letter. That will be fine too 🙂Hope it helps.Best of luck
Thanks a lot! with things like our bank statement or credit card statement... how far back should we go? 3 or 6 months?

Yes to both. We sent an affidavit from my in-laws to explain we were living in their home the first few months after I immigrated.
does it have to be notarized?

I just have a question, hope some one can help out. We currently live with our mother. Her house. don't have a lease or rental agreement or anything like that. Should we have our mother write an affidavit? that should be helpful right? my wife is currently 5 months pregnant. so would a letter from the doc help too? just wondering.
Thanks!

Sounds like a non-issue. Consular Officers see this all the time in Mumbai.
Thanks a ton!
My spouse's visa has been approved. It is a non-issue. And they didn't even check our wedding album and the actual interview lasted just 10 mins.

So my mother in law has her maiden name and her name after marriage.
By south Indian tradition ... we list our parent or husbands first name as our last name. So for example... Jaya John ... just means Jaya wife of John (there is no concept of family name here in this format).
So the interesting thing is both my in laws fathers have the same name.
So as an example my FIL is John Ravi
And my MIL's birth name is Jaya Ravi.
Both of their fathers have the same first name = Ravi.
My spouse's birth certificate and passport lists her Mother as Jaya Ravi. And I included this in DS 260 as well. This is her birth name. (From US perpective ... this could be confused to marriage name)
My MIL's name after marriage is Jaya John. And this name was listed on our marriage certificate.
Our interview is in a couple of days ... how much of a problem can this create at the interview?
In India, they offer a One and the Same form... to show both are the same person... would that be a good evidence?

technically me and my spouse have mutual relatives/friends between us. And I was born like a hour away from her hometown.
But we initially met through an Indian Christian matrimony site. We talked for a few months before our first face 2 face encounter. and we almost had a year's time to talk and get to know each before the wedding.
So for the "How did you guys meet?' question at the interview... is it OK to mention the name of this matrimonial site as the answer? Or could mentioning the website create any sort of suspicions?

My spouse got the Biometrics done last week at Chennai even tho the interview is at Mumbai in 3 weeks.
Her fingerprints were taken.
She got her passport stamped. And her DS 260 confirmation page was stamped.
Is that all that's done there?
As many online reviews have stated they get the DS 260 confirmation stamped and ppl had their photos attached. But my wife didn't take any passports size photos to the biometrics appointment.
Did we do something wrong here in this step??

An updated I-864 and supporting documents will be welcomed at the interview.
Ok nice.
My joint sponsor's I-864 has no need for an update. But I just changed the date on it to October and had my joint sponsor sign again. Is that fine? Or am I supposed to have the exact date as was on the AoS mailed out to NVC.
-
Should the AoS taken to the interview have the same date as the AoS that was mailed out?
So 2 months back, when I mailed out my AoS... I had an Aug date in it along with my signature. At that time I was unemployed. Now I started a new job... so I have to update my employment and income on the AoS. I'm giving my spouse this updated AoS.
We send a joint sponsor AoS back in August as well. I haven't updated anything on the AoS for the joint sponsor. But I updated the date on the document to October (instead of the Aug in the one mailed out to NVC).... is that OK? Or will it be a problem?
In terms of the financial docs that my spouse is carrying.... we have the following... is the following good to go?
Sponsor AoS
2017 Tax return transcript
2 paystubs (new job)
Employment letter
Joint sponsor AoS
2017 Tax return transcript
10 or so paystubs (5-6 months)
Certificate of naturalization
Aug 2020 I-751 Filers (merged)

also 2nd question - we are planning to send 6 photos... what's the best way to send them with the package? does it make sense to put the photos in a small ziplock?
