Hi guys , my case got updated today . This is the fifth time for my visa case to get updated since I did the interview. Is this an indication for getting the visa issued ? I know one of my friends who had the same case as mine and his case got updated five times and it was issued after three days since the last update . 

There is now way to tell what an "update" means, without further information.  Even if it is an indicator a decision has been made, it does not indicate whether the decision was yes, no, or we need more documentation.

Some people are under AP for days, some weeks, some months, some years. There’s no knowing how long it will be. It will take as long as it takes. If they kept your passports, that’s a good sign and all you can do is wait. 
 
Are either of you a US citizen? Did a US citizen petition for your visas? What kind of visa is it? If there is no US citizen involved in your process (ie a petitioner for family based visas), you can’t contact a US senator or a congressman to request an inquiry. Those services are for US citizens only. All you can do is wait.
