  1. Once you complete the ds-160, and pay for it then you can schedule your interview. You don't have to wait for the Embassy unless you like waiting around. There current available appointment times are out till May now. Your case info will get there before you even go to the interview. All the required documentation should be brought to the interview. The only paperwork that you can submit ahead of the interview is the ds-160. Your medical check up is only good for 6 months so plan your check up a couple of months ahead of your interview.

Is it just me or has this process just recently changed? I just had my filled out and completed on Jan 14th 2019.  I don't see a anywhere where the DS-261 exist. Althought, I never log in as the beneficiary. I always log in as the petitioner. I was able to pay both the AOS fee, and the IV fee. Filled out the DS-260 and submit all request docs. It's been in a submitted state for a week now. I hope this is correct otherwise I would hate to wait. Do I still need to fill out the DS-261 or is it not necessary if we are not using a third party or attorney.

The signature is an electronic sign so you are fine with it if she gives you the authorization to accept it. I've not had anyone complained on VJ nor has anyone from NVC or Embassy call this out. Majority of these visa applications are usually filled out by the Petitioner since the beneficiary usually doesn't speak nor understand English.

I hear your pain about the long wait. My recommendation is email the embassy to see if they can make exceptions and get you in sooner. The other thing you can do is have your fiance get their medical done. I think they are good for 6 months, but don't quote me on this. Verify it with the embassy and keep checking there website for a date earlier than what you are schedule for. I've done this several times, and have found out that people cancel there appointments and things do open up. You will need to check it on a daily base.

The $265 fee is for the DS-160. You associate the DS-160 by entering the confirmation number from the form to the account. What you paid for is not the interview, but the Visa application (DS-160). Since you can't schedule an interview before that is paid the people just assumed that it's for the interview.

  6. The DS160 is the visa application, and it can be filled out by you. Just make sure she is aware of the document and it's contents. Take the DS160's confirmation number, and associate it to the account created at the below website. You will have to print out the payment information for your spouse to go and pay in Laos. Use this link to go and create your account. https://cgifederal.secure.force.com/ Once the ds-160 is paid for you will take that receipt number, and add it to the account online. It will take 24 hours for it to update after making the payment to the bank. Once all of that is completed then here comes the good part. You will be able to schedule her appointment. After the interview if she passes, and I pray she does. They will ask her to come in a week to pick up the visa and the package.

  7. That's not the case anymore. As for the medical checkup. There isn't a packet to give them anymore since that is all done behind the scenes. All they need from her is the VNT number. They will need to bring the below documentation when they go to the interview. I have a copy of that doc, and I can email you if you give me your email address. She will need to bring all the originals such as family book, birth certificate, police certificate, passport, two visa style photo etc.. If she looks young they might ask for the original family book. If you don't then you should have her bring all her school certificate with the correct DOB, and name. It's harder to get approvals these days for a K1.

  8. Don't wait for NVC to respond they can take up to several months. Just wait 2-3 weeks and then call NVC, and ask them for the case number. It will start with VNTxxxxxxxx. Once you have the VNT number you can start the DS160 application, then pay the DS160 fee (your only able to pay in Laos @ ACLEDA Bank), and then schedule your interview. The last I check they are out to end of March beginning April appointments so the earlier you are to complete this the sooner you will get an interview date. You can check on a daily base to see if anyone cancels there appointment and you can re-schedule yours.

  9. Current process:

Once you get a VNT# you can start the process of of filling out the DS 160 application for VISA. You will need the confirmation number from the DS 160 in order for you to pay the fees and schedule your interview appointment online. You will also need to go, and create an account. Here is the link for you https://cgifederal.secure.force.com/  Once you pay for the visa fee then you can schedule your appointment. You will need the receipt number after paying for the visa application. After scheduling your appointment then you can go and get the medical check up done. You will need to give the clinic your spouses VNT number to them. The cost of the DS 160 is $2368000 kip which can be paid @ any ALCEDA Bank in Laos. You will need to print out the pay slip from the web address above. I suggest getting your medical check up one month in advance just to make sure everything clears up.

Let me know if you still have question..

  10. I'm sorry if I am adding fuel to the fire on this waiting game everyone, but my wife's petition was received by NVC on 11/21/18 and we have yet to receive a case number. By Jan 16th it would be a full 8 weeks. I wonder what excuse they are going to give me. I'm sure they will blame it on the shutdown :) I can't believe that it would take someone 8 full weeks to input a file into a computer system especially this day in age with the technology that we have. I've been calling every other day this week, and it feels hopeless. They told me it could take up to 8 weeks, and when I told them that they have 3 more business days. She changed it, and said it could take longer than 8 weeks!!! I just laughed cause it's so F...Ked up that there's no point in arguing. I'll wait till the Jan 16th and if I don't get a response then it's escalate plus call my congress woman... OH I forgot they might be shutdown!!!

  11. If you ask your parents they should be able to tell you where they are from. You might need someone to decipher where the town, district, and province is. On the other hand good luck with the K1 visa from Laos you will need it. Lately they've been denying most K1 visas. Like most people from here has stated you are better off getting marry and do the i130. Sorry to get off topic here, but it's the truth. You can hit me up if you like more information on the i130.
