Yes you have to send in your original naturalization certificate when applying for a U.S. passport or passport card so they can verify your citizenship status. They will mail it back to you separately and it will arrive shortly in it's own package after your passport/passport card arrives as well.
Thank you!

Can someone please help me make sure how to apply for a passport?
I had my interview a week ago and the ceremony date was scheduled. Now I was reading
https://www.uscis.gov/us-citizenship/naturalization-ceremonies
Under “Apply for a U.S. Passport/Passport Card,” it says “You will need to submit your original certificate of naturalization or citizenship AND a photocopy when applying for your U.S. passport.”
Do you really need to send the original certificate of naturalization? Will they mail it back to you with your passport? I’m so worried about sending the original via mail😥

I’m a LA filer and had my interview in Chatsworth today.
It took 20 minutes and I wasn’t asked to show any documents except for IDs: passport, the latest permanent resident card, and driver’s license.
For English test, I was asked to read “what do you need to pay to government?” and to write “we pay taxes” on the tablet.
The civics questions were:
•name one US territory
•who’s the father of the US
•what was declared in the Declaration of Independence
•what state borders with Canada
•why there’re 13 stripes on the flag
•what’s the right only for US citizens
The interviewer told me that my oath day will be April 23 and I will be receiving the letter in two weeks, and she also told me to bring 2 passport-sized photos to the ceremony.
I hope this helps someone who’s interview is on the way ahead. I felt prepared thanks to the people on VJ and more than anything, I got tremendous emotional support from here. Thank you all.

4/23/2019 oath ceremony

You're only expected to answer one.
Thank you!

Can someone please tell me if I have to answer all the answers if a civics test question has multiple answers?
For example, question #37: what does the judicial branch do?
•reviews laws
•explains laws
•resolves disputes (disagreement)
•decides if a law goes against the constitution
Do I have to answer all the 4 answers? Long time ago I feel like I saw somewhere that you are only expected to answer one of the answers, like just “•reviews laws.” But I’m not sure🤦♀️
People who already had their interview, please help me!
thank you.

I guess it is about time for me to call... I seem to be one of the few left who haven't gotten an interview letter or anything like that (though my fingerprints were one of the last ones for the March fillers).
Currently the website shows:
Estimated wait time:
We are taking longer than expected to process your case. You do not need to do anything at this time
So that is a bummer...
Hi, I see February filers in your area, Atlanta, have gotten their interviews scheduled. Your turn is coming up next! Hang in there!

I meant to type February 26th.
I called the 1-800 number and the agent said there's no record of my interview being cancelled. She said she had to escalate it with one of her supervisors but that everybody was busy so I'd probably get a call back She transferred my call ad sure enough, it said they'd call me back in 161 minutes. That was at 2:40 CST, 3:40 EST and they close at 5pm EST. I guess I'm not going to hear from them today.
Hi there, I’m so sorry to hear what’s happening with you. That is really really irritating!!😠 Which 1800 number did you call? When I call 800-375-5283, it always says the operators are available from 8am-8pm EST, M-F. Why dont you call this number? Don’t give up yet!

My interview is scheduled for Saturday afternoon on March 16. I didn’t know that they are open on Saturdays...My office is LA County office. Should I call the USCIS to make sure that it’s really on Saturday? Does anyone know someone who had his/her interview on Saturday?

Hello Everyone,
I had my interview on Jan 28th in Chatsworth. It went very smoothly, the employee was an older lady, very nice and kind. Questions were easy, same with writing and reading. She went over my file but didn't ask for additional evidence (I am 2 months away from my fifth year as a resident anyway). I had my marriage certificate, wife and child birth certificates, health insurance, car insurance and the tax transcripts I filed jointly but none of them were asked - she had all the copies anyway.
I noticed she had a BUNCH of files in her office. They seemed very busy although the branch wasn't very crowded. I arrived 30 min early and my interview started right on time.
Once everything was reviewed, she said she would recommend me for approval. I got an update today that I was scheduled for the ceremony, so it took less than 2 weeks. Pretty fast, knowing that they received my file on Feb 6th, 2018. Exactly one year after, I am scheduled for the oath ceremony. Can't wait!
Fun fact: Looks like they deal with a bunch of filers of questionable "good morale". Apparently, DUIs...
Congratulations! It’s nice to hear your interview went all hassle-free. I hope you get an oath notice soon!

I got a text this afternoon. My interview is scheduled. I filed my case on March 6, had my biometric done on March 28. I live in the city of LA but my case belongs to LA County office.
I’ll update when I get to know the interview date.

March 6 filer in LA here. After a loooong wait, I got a text this afternoon. My interview is scheduled. I wasn’t really excited; I was relieved. I don’t know the date yet, but I think it’ll be in mid March.
Ever since I filed my case, the estimated case completion date was March 2019. I’ve seen so many people here who got their cases completed much sooner than their estimated date, but it was pretty accurate for my case (unfortunately!).
For all the people here who are still waiting, hang in there!

I’m a March filer from LA, tired of this waiting game. When did you receive the interview notice?

I should’ve not come back to visa journey, it’s frustrating to see my case is one of the slowest cases😵😵

@MiaK i’m on the same boat. february filer, just got an email again this morning that my application is still under review and there is nothing new at this time. I applied almost 10 1/2 months ago...
Now they’ve started setting up interviews for May filers...😲

interesting. Did you file online or my mail? I think you should try to contact Tier 2 again
Filed online. How do you talk to “tier 2”?

Mine is 05/14. Do you have a pending ROC? Have you tried to call Tier 2 to find out the status?
No I don’t have a pending case. I called uscis in November and was told that there’s nothing wrong with my n400 form and documents, it’s just the office is backlogged so all I could do is just wait😢
now I came back to visa journey for the first time in a long time and just found out that they are already processing April filers. Yeah, I’m jealous!👿😬

Thank you for the great great news.
When did you submit yours?
I’m a March filer and have been waiting for an interview notice more than 9 months. It’s kind of sad that the March filer thread has become so quiet because many of them have finished their process long time ago, and to be honest, it’s getting painful to see people who filed after me are already getting an interview notice...my ugly feeling...😔

Congratulations! Another great news for LA filers, 2 days in a row:)
So two 3/14 filers got their interviews scheduled and I’m a 3/6 filer. Now I started wondering why they skipped my file🤨
