  1. Thank you both for the advice!

Yeah, simplicity is definitely the goal, so I'm going to leave it as it is and let them adjudge the application as they see fit. Another lesson I've learnt on reading through the forum for anecdotal evidence and learning from others experience, could have saved myself several hours of work in putting together the evidence list requested.

  2. Finally got around to submitting the N400 this week, after dragging my feet over it for the last two years.

Ive been a LPR since 01/24/2019, which puts me in the 90 day window of the 5 year rule. But I inadvertently submitted the application on 4th Jan 2024 under the 3 year rule married to a US citizen, and went through the trouble of getting all the documentation uploaded. Turns out I could have saved myself the trouble if I had just picked the right option.

But now that the application is submitted, is there a formal way to reclassify yourself for the 5 year rule while the application is still being processed? I'd rather the final part of this process be as hassle free (relative as that can be) as I can make it, and looks like that should make the interview and the review process more straightforward.

Anyone with similar experience on this have any anecdotal knowledge on if and how I can make that change, short of redoing the entire application, which seems counter-intuitive at best?

P.S: Im a lurker mostly, so if this breaks community posting rules, please let me know and I will repost under the right forum rules.

  4. So we're at the stage where our NVC status is ready, but haven't yet received the Packet 3/4 from the consulate. I did however heed to the advice in this thread and others on the forum and booked dates for both the VAC and the Embassy Interview soon as I was able to with the BMB case number.

    Medical Scheduled: 4th July 2018

    VAC Appointment: 4th July 2018

    Embassy Appointment: 3rd Aug 2018

I am going to be traveling to the US on a necessary B1 visit for work from 11th-30th July. I had a couple of concerns/queries to see if anyone else here overcame or encountered them, before calling the US travel docs line for clarification tomorrow.

    1. Is there a minimum/maximum period of time between the VAC and Embassy appointment dates? Can I book the VAC appointment as afar ahead I have done here, or is it necessary that it is done within a specific time period? (I want to have it out of the way along with the medical and be able to return in time for the interview with everything in place.

    2. Does the VAC appointment date determine how far out your Embassy Interview can be? I had to pick the VAC date first, and the only available date in the following screen was 3rd Aug in the months of Aug and September (which also happens to be exactly 30 days after my VAC date). I did not see any available in Sep as the system said was earliest available, I might have just been lucky in picking an early Aug date.

    3. While me and my fiancee can keep the interview date we have gotten, ideally we'd like it to be a week later around 8-10th Aug. Has anybody here had luck in moving dates a week out in the recent past in Mumbai. Or do dates and slots move by bigger chunks? How many time can you reschedule these dates, and do you lose your original slot only as you confirm, or even pick the dates?)

In all of this, I am tryin g to determine if my VAC date is restricting my choice of interview dates (if there is a hard limit on how far apart they can be!). That as a long wall of text, but I'm hoping the context and history will enable fellow VJers to answer these.

Thanks in advance and good luck to everyone waiting at some stage of this long arduous process. I hope you all see the light at the end of the tunnel sooner than it took us.

  5. We filed our I-129F on 15 November 2017, and received our NOA1 dated 17 November 2017.

I just stumbled upon an RFE in the October thread regarding an unfilled portion of the form (Multiple Filer Waiver Request Information, attached pic as I couldn't figure out how to link the post. Sorry!). Lo and behold, as my instincts suggested, I went back and checked our form and we missed filling the part out ourselves, and should have checked option(d) NA!

Seeing as our petition should be reviewed in the coming weeks, and it is likely we will get an RFE for this, is there anything I can do to pre-empt this and file an 'amendment' or 'correction' in time for the initial review?

I recall seeing a section on the USCIS site which allows you to submit 'corrections' electronically, and was wondering if that is something we should consider doing?

Thank you folks, this is an incredibly supportive and inclusive community and I'm glad to be a part of it and share in the struggles and the successes!
