  1. I think it's too bad they didn't show ALL of the top 24 sing at least a little. I think those people mentioned in the beginning of the EW article might get shafted because they don't have a dead father or something else.

But I like this season a LOT more than last year. I did not give a ####### who won by the end!

  2. Hi everyone,

It sure feels good to have the VISA in hand and thank you so much for those who helped, this site is very useful eventhough some posts just make me want to kill myself... However this whole thing is not done. Though we finally have the right to spend our lives together, which is the mail goal, I still need to be able to work and having to sit on my ### for 3 months is not something I particularly look forward to but oh well...I'm wondering what people do while waiting for their EAD but I'm guessing they sit on their ###, drink mountain and watch football, ahahaha!

For those who went through AOS, I'd like to know how you got your birth certificate translated and what is the cheapest way to do it. I also looked through the AOS process and I want to know what did you do for vaccination records. Did you have the I-693A enclosed in the "do not open" VISA envelop or did you have to see a civil surgeon to get that form?

    Thanks a lot

    Fred

We had his birth certificate translated through a translation service here in Boston.

For the vaccination records, we actually just submitted the vaccination worksheet.

As far as not working for 3 months, try to enjoy it. You'll never have an opportunity to not work for 3 months again, so take advantage of it. Do nothing, or do everything you want to do but never seem to have the time. Trust me, those three months will fly by, and all of a sudden you'll say, "OMG, I can't believe I have to go to work tomorrow!!"

  3. Hi Fred,

First, good luck with your interview on the 11th. Please let us know how it goes! My husband (fiance at the time) said that it was pretty easy. You can read my review of the interview in the Embassy Reviews for Paris, as well as POE experience.

    As far as your questions:

    1. My husband bought a round trip ticket because it was cheaper. Just didn't use the return.

    2. My husband went through JFK in order to get the temp EAD stamp. He got the stamp, but no place would hire him because it was only a "temporary" work stamp, and he couldn't guarantee when the EAD or green card would arrive. So, to us, it wasn't worth the 7 hour round trip drive from Boston.

    3. As soon as my husband got the EAD, he interviewed and was offered a job within the first week. He is in the hospitality industry, so they may be more "tolerant" of foreigners. I honestly believe his French accent helped secure him the job! (He was offered a job during his interview!)

    Good luck!

    Hello everyone,

Well, not that anyone really care about this but I have my interview at the embassy schedule for December 11th. I am spending thanksgiving with my fiancee in the US so that's good. The turkey is in the oven and football is on, ahahah!

I have a couple questions for those who made it through the VISA journey:

    - Did you take a one way ticket when you came to finally move in with your fiance? I am getting confused because I found one way ticket for like 3000 euros and round trip tickets are like around 500 euros so I don't know what to do.

    - Is it really worth it to try to go through JFK to have that temporary work stamp that I heard about? Did anyone do that? Are companies willing to hire you with that stamp?

Oh and I would also like to know how hard it was to find a job for you. I know we all have different backgrounds, skills etc and that the jobmarket depends on where you are but I'd still like to know.

Well, happy thanksgiving to all of you!

    Fred

  4. We're together now, but when we were going through the process, we talked on the phone at least twice a day. His was the first voice I heard in the morning, on my drive to work. His was the last voice I heard at night, after he got home from work and I was in bed. Even if it was just to say I love you, just hearing his voice made it that much easier, and he felt the same way. I don't think we went a day without.

But, like you try and read the same books, we used to go to the movies at around the same time to watch the same movie. Then, when we were walking home from the movie theater, we would talk about the movie. It almost felt like we were at the movies together... :)

  5. Restaurants, standard for me is 20% unless the service is bad. Then I'll leave ~10%

My hairdresser is the owner, so I don't tip her.

    Taxis, depends. If the fare is $5.05, I'll give $6. If it's 5.95 I'll give $7.

    Grocery store, I don't tip.

Valet, I'll tip an extra $1 or 2, depending on the price.

Hotels, I leave maybe $2 per night.

As far as holiday tips, I don't tip the mailman, etc.

  6. Could you possibly be getting the channels, but not in HD? I know we had to get an extra cable because the HD signal was too strong for the regular cable.

I honestly don't know much about this stuff. We have a nice Sony Bravia HD that I love (since we got it "fixed" with the right cables etc.), but other than that, 1080, 760, I don't know.

But :( about Sandra Bullock! I think she's so cute! I had heard that Teri Hatcher wasn't happy about the HD.

  7. Its seems devil you like to read things into something that isnt there. I have doubts she is a woman, in the first remark.

The second remark was made by her! In the second video I posted.

Has usual you percieve it to be a anti-woman type comment, derrived from your ability to see your perception and not reality. You will wake on the count of 3! 1..................2..................3 Shite it didnt work. Oh well have a happy thanks giving.

Seriously, you have doubts she's a woman? I don't understand this kind of comment. If you dislike her, her politics, etc., I get that. I really do. I'm not a fan. But seriously, you doubt she's a woman? Come on, doesn't that embarass you a little? Just a little?

  8. What I don't understand is why there is so much vitriol in these threads about politics. No one will ever get anyone to change their minds (particulary dem vs. rep).

So clearly, after the "information" is passed on, why the spewing of such hatred? (A couple of you sound like my ex-husband with the aggressive anger about politics.)

Whenever people express misguided emotions on issues, I also wonder. Perhaps some kind of Freudian thing.

Maybe. And I hope that it's something deeper that what I see on the surface here... because (how I see it) what's on the surface (in these political threads) is raw hatred... and it has to be deeper than that. There has to be something more to it, something rational.

Underwear that's a few sizes too small?:P

Fruit of the Loom could be the answer!
