Hi all, any advise for oath ceremony? I am scheduled for a 12:45 pm session at Campbell on 6/20.

    • How early should I get there to find a parking spot ?
    • Do I sign the N445 in front of the officer or can i sign it on that day before getting in line?
    • One thing I did note is to write my full name on the naturalization certificate and not do a normal sign. Please let me know if this is wrong.

Taking a black pen with me, my pictures, SSN, my passports, Green card and N445. That's all I have.

    Thanks for answering my questions.

    1. Get there early only if you are accompanied by some guest and they want to secure a seat. As far as I understand there are around 400-500 N400 oath takers. Additional 200 guests can be seated. Getting there early may be an hour or so only makes sense if you are being accompanied by guests. Oath takers are assured seat no matter what

    2. You can sign the N445 whenever you want as long as it is done prior to handing it over the immigration officer at the Oath Ceremony venue

    3. I signed my Naturalization Cert just as I sign any other doc. Passport folks accepted it without any issues

    Hi All,

I had a combo interview this Monday afternoon at 2:00pm and the officer approved both of my cases. My original interview date was 01/25/2019, but when my husband and I have been waiting for 40 mins and got our number called, the officer asked us to go to the window and told us they had to cancel my interview because they still have my I751 pending. I believe the local office didn't have my I751 file on hand at that time. After almost 3 months, they scheduled this Monday for combo interview. I received two letters (I751+N400 separated) with same date but different time slots. I751 is 2:00pm and N400 is 3:00pm. On Monday, we passed security check at 1:20pm and waited in the waiting area for 40 mins. At around 2:05pm, a nice and kind female officer called my number and led us to her office. She asked us if we have more evidence to show her. I gave her our 2017, 2018 tax return, trip tickets, photos and car loan paper. We just had some chit-chat and she asked what does my mom and dad do something like that. She asked my husband how he got his citizenship. The questions are pretty simple. Then she said she's going to approve my I751 and move forward to my N400 test. She didn't ask my husband to wait outside. So my husband just waited next to me. I passed 6 questions very quickly and she asked me to read a sentence on IPAD: Who can vote? Then she asked me to write down: Citizens can vote. I got all correct. Then, she went over some yes and no questions. After that, she said congratulations to me and passed me the paper saying recommended for approval. I'm currently waiting for my oath to be scheduled. Good luck to everyone!

    Awesome Congratz @cococandy

    Hello all,

My wife, son and I just got back from USCIS for my wife's I751 and N400 interview. Previously her original interview date for N400 was on Feb 15.  However since her I 751 was pending they moved it. They told us they will  within 90 days to reschedule an I 751 and N400 interivew,  We got a letter around mid March that the I 751 interview will be conducted on April 15 but no indication of N400 interview.  At the end of March USCIS called and told my wife about the combo i751 and N400 interview.  They emailed us the letter for the I 751 and n400 interview which was indicated to be an hour apart.     We arrived at 9 am and the USCIS office was already crowded.  Her interview was at 9:30.  It took 20 minutes to finish the security check . We were so stressed out thinking we might be late for the interview .  Thank God the line for the person directing where to go was short. .  By 9:23 we were at the main room where other people waited for interview or window appointment. We waited for 10-15 min before we were called by a very nice and friendly female officer.  My son who is 2 years old was a bit noisy coz he was getting bored of waiting.  I was worried that I might have to take him out of the building. The officer led us to her office.  The officer was  acomodating knowing how toddlers can be noisy and easily distracted.  At first she conducted the I 751 interview . My wife and I was sworn in. She asked us if I have any additional evidences we want to present.  I told her we have a photo  album if she wants to look at it.  She browsed the album and asked who some of the people in the album., where was the pictures taken.  She also asked us about our recent trips.  Then I asked her if she needs additional evidences.  She said this should be enough at this time.  She went to her computer and she told my wife she is approving her I 751.  In the meantime my wife asked the officer if she could breast feed my son who was getting hungry at this time.  She said sure go ahead.  Took less than 10 minutes for the I 751 interview.  At this time I was thinking that we have to wait for 10:30 AM for the N400 interview.  But she was the same officer who conducted the N400. right after the I 751.  I thought she would send me and my son out of the room while she conducted the interview . She told me it is ok to stay.  I carried my son while she went  on with the N400 portion of my wife's interview.  She asked 6 questions :

    1. Why did the colonist fought the British?

    2. Give two rights of people  living in the US?

    3. Who is the current speaker of the house?

    4. Name 3 original colonies?

    5. Name one right of a  US citizen?

    6. Name two legal US holidays?

She also had my wife read on the IPAD : Where is the White House?

then she said to my wife to write : The White House is in Washington DC

Then she went over the N400 form. Had my wife sign that she is pledging allegiance to the US.  The officer then proceeded to congratulate my wife. She handed us a letter stating she passed the quiz and written part of the citizenship interview.  Also she marked that my wife N400 has been recommended for approval. Now awaiting final approval and notification for oath taking. The only thing that was kind of a bummer was that my wife cannot use her married name since they had to follow what was written on the Marriage certificate which is her maiden name.  We got married in New Jersey and they did not use my last name as her last name but her maiden name instead .  So now we have to go to a court to change her name.  It is a law in Santa clara county per the officer that they dont allow name changes except via the courts.  But still we are glad and thankful to our creator that this part of our lives is done.

Congratulations to you and your wife ! I updated the spreadsheet with your combo interview date in comments section

Any advice regarding moving out of state after oath ceremony?

I am facing a potential change of address at the end of this month, and may actually need to move out of state.  My oath is this coming Thursday.  Are there any adverse effects of moving immediately after oath ceremony? Or is it better to just try and stay put for at least 1 month after to oath ceremony? Do you get naturalization certificate immediately on the oath day or is it mailed out? I've seen alot of threads on this site that cover change of address before the oath, but none of change of address after. I have put off this move for months solely due to not wanting to complicate this process, so now just wondering if I need to hold out longer till I'm sure this process is really officially done ( certificate in hand and all).

@Frdk Please treat this as general advise and not legal one. I don't believe there would be any adverse effects of moving out immediately after the oath ceremony as long as you ensure you have your passport delivery address is taken care of.

I trust your N400 application and interview experience was based on legitimate residency in the Santa Clara and surrounding counties where in you were asked to present a proof of residence during both N400 Application filling and interview process. My point being, I trust your field office was determined based on valid reasons of you staying in this area (even though in your mind you wanted to move to different place) and not moving to this area temporarily to have your naturalization processed quickly. (Great irony here, San Jose field office is one of the slowest in terms of interview scheduling after initial N400 is submitted, even if one were to, why would one choose San Jose Field office 😋).

Besides, the very essence of Permanent residency and following naturalization is to present the residents/citizens (would be) the freedom to move around, choose whatever employer/employment anywhere or not choose to work at all etc etc.

As to when one gets Naturalization certificate, if I understand it correctly, right after the oath ceremony when one begins to depart the theater door in Campbell, USCIS officers hand over your cert to you But I could be wrong here. What I have read in multiple threads is it gets handed over immediately after the ceremony.

    Just my 2 cents...

  7. Folks who had their Oath Ceremony at 8:30 am in Campbell, Can you please let me know when would one typically be get done from the ceremony? This is only taking into consideration the oath ceremony and getting your Naturalization Certificate in hand, not the passport application part at the end where it takes load of time.

I am considering rushing myself to regional passport agency in San Francisco to get my passport sooner than expedited normal timelines as I have some international travel planned in first week of May. The last appointment I can avail is at 1:00 PM so I need to start by at least 12:00 noon from Campbell.

Would it/does it go past 12:00 noon for appointment holders at 8:30 am ?

And yes I know things can change on the fly and might on 18th April terribly so its always a bad idea to opt for an appointment on that day especially when one needs to travel for an hour to SF, but I am still just curious to know how soon generally the ceremony gets over for 8:30 am appointments

    Any help much appreciated

It isn't compulsory however, it is recommended you do. US citizen's DL doesn't have limited term on them which ours do...that's about the only difference I can think of right off the bat.

Can you please elaborate more on the term "limited term". Would it mean it does not expire after certain number of years ? Also is this true and applicable to all states or specific states ?

My husband said that he was trying to help and answers clear as posible. Then the officer ask him for a prove that we are living together then my husband worry a little bit because he thought he did not had a prove but when he check into his folder he found the taxes transcrips and the oficer said that the taxes will work. Sorry it's taken me a while to report. Tried to post immediately after when things were still fresh but kept getting error message everytime I tried to log on. Not sure why. But here's what happened

    Interview day-April 1st, 7.55 AM

Was a little concerned about this date (April fools- what if they try to punk me? I'm too much of a nervous wreck I wouldn't be able to handle a joke...)

Didn't sleep much due to nerves. Was up by 6. Left home by 7am. Was worried about traffic but arrived at 712am. They opened up at about 715am. Was one of the first people there. Went through security check, straight to counter got my letter stamped and my token and went to sit in waiting area.

    2. Not sure how long I waited. But I started to notice that others who had token numbers after mine were being called and I wasnt. After about 3 of them were called I walked up to the counter to enquire. Lady at the counter said she'll check to see whats going on. Minutes later, I was called up.

    3. About 8.25ish a somewhat stern, but nice looking woman called my name. First thing I noticed is she didn't smile at me. Very neutral expression on her face.  This upped my nerves several points especially since I noticed all the others called before me were met with happy, smiling, even bubbly IOs.

    4. Once we got the room she asked me to have a seat.  She took my GC and DL. We began by verifying my name, address, marital status (single). She then asked how I got my greencard ( as immediate relative of USC). She asked my parents' info.

    5. She asked for travel info. Didn't have any travel documented in my application. Haven't travelled in last 10yrs. She asked for my passport. This made me nervous as the passport expired 9 yrs ago, and the picture in it is from when I was 16! She flipped through every page, and kept looking at the passport and then at her screen as she flipped through, but didn't ask anything further.

    6. We went through employment history, addresses. She asked if I owed any taxes. Said not that I know of. She asked for tax receipts which thankfully I had. She asked about criminal history-I mentioned my 2 traffic citations. She asked if I paid them. I said yes (i had uploaded my DMV driving record with my online application). She did not ask to see proof of these.

    7. We then went through all the yes/no answer sections

    8. The We did the civic questions:

    Who makes federal laws?

What did Martin Luther King Jr do?

What is the supreme law of the land?

When was the declaration of independence adopted?

What is the capital of this state?

Who takes over if both the president and vice president cannot lead?

Then we went through the reading and writing. I can't remember exactly what it was :) Sorry. It may have been "who elects the Senate" written answer "the people"

At the end she told me I passed and she was recommending me for approval.

    A few things:

-My IO was polite, but all business. No jokes , no cutting up, no smile. But I left feeling the interview was very straightforward.

    - Can't thank the people in these thread enough. The information provided here is invaluable and really helped me prepare.

-@nikha you have done invaluable service with Google sheet and keeping up with everybody.

    - Reading this page, and going through the timelines I realized the process and timeline are fairly predictable. I was able to accurately estimate when I would receive updates on interviews, and now oath dates. I got notice my oath letter has been mailed, so estimating  I'll either be on April 18th or May 23rd based on calender at the Heritedge theater (oaths have been consistently held either 3rd or 4th Thursday each month with a few exceptions)

That's all I remember. All the best to those who have interviews coming up!

    Congrats @Frdk that's awesome news

    All the best @Amador
