  1. I got this in an email responding to a question I submitted to 'asknvc:'

The NVC completed its processing of LEE, FENG YIN's visa petition.

While it was tedious filling out the on-line forms, and there were a three requests for additional documents, the process went much better than I ever expected it would.

My AOS has been marked 'approved' and we are ready to have the interview scheduled. I wonder how long that will take!

  2. I was working on my wife's DS-260 when I had to stop and ask her to gather complete information on her 'education from secondary on + all of her employment.' The web site displayed those explicit requirements.

Two days later, when I logged back on the enter the data, the web site had been changed and they asked for 'employment OR education' and for employment, they only asked for 'occupation' and 'any other occupation.' As my wife has been both a Lawyer and a Religious Worked, I filled in just two pieces of employment information and that was all I was asked for.

I'm quite happy that the requirements had been simplified, but it's rather surprising to have it happen this way.

Has anybody else noticed this change?

    Fur real?

I seems like everybody has their NOA1 within two weeks. But yours is so extreme.

Timing is a little tough for me, I need to plan ahead for the Fall semester and it's only 3 weeks apart. :(

I did get the NOA-1 withing a couple of weeks, but the NOA-2 took over six months. Meanwhile, their (Nebraska) online status information system predicted nine to ten and a half months.

Another very wrong piece of information!

True.. Every one has noticed it and i have seen mutliple people asking nvc but they dont know the exact date when site will be up, for now they have gave 27 july for site to be back.

This what i found on forum.

Nice estimate of 7/27, but 7/30 has come and gone. Still down! Still NO explanation of ANY KIND about what has happened and the message you get when you try to access the system STILL claims it is down for 'maintenance.' That's obviously completely false!

So I checked my online banking this morning and it looks like my checks have been cashed, no text or email notification yet, though...

Strictly speaking, your checks were not 'cashed' they were deposited to the Treasury Department.

In my case, I got a notice of action from Nebraska very shortly after my petition was delivered to Chicago. Then NOTHING happened for a bit over six months! In particular, my 'receipt number' was NOT added to their tracking system until AFTER the second notice arrived in Taiwan. The letter took 12 days to get to me (normal delivery time) and it beat them adding my case to their--clearly useless--system.

Suddenly, I got a second notice of action that my petition had been approved and forwarded to New Hampshire. I was advised that I would hear from New Hampshire within 30 days, but I heard NOTHING for about 45 days. Then I was referred to their online case management system (because my wife will be interviewed in a consular office.)

Sad to say, the online case management system crashed and has been down for a week already with no end in sight.

Been a week since delivery. Nothing yet. :(

You are SO overly optimistic. I also got NOTHING. I was trying to find my case in their 'online tracking system' but that just kept telling me my case number was invalid and I should correct my error.

Six months plus a few days after I got my first notice (by letter) I got a second notice (by letter) that my petition had been approved and had been sent to the Visa Processing Center in New Hampshire. A couple of days AFTER that second letter, they FINALLY added my case to their (totally useless) on-line tracking system!

    Don't hold your breath!

Haha, I think calling your lawyer's office is totally fine - I'm sure they're used to it! Your friend sounds very lucky to have gotten her biometrics done already! But it's a marathon not a sprint, I'm sure we'll have a chance to catch up to her soon :)

Are you sure they put your phone number and email on the G-1145? If they put their details, perhaps they got the notification...

USCIS sent me two snail-mail letters, one that they have received my application and one that it was approved. They entered my case in their so-called on-line tracking system two days AFTER I got the 'approved letter.' The only entry in the tracking system is 'approved and sent to vpc.'

They have the nerve to call this 'tracking!' It's an insult!

  8. The Consular Electronic Application Center (CEAC) website is the ONLY way for sponsors living outside the US to file an AOS or a DS-260 HOWEVER, the CEAC has been DOWN for DAYS and only today did they change the 'undergoing maintenance' display message to half-way acknowledge something serious has happened.

Worst of all, they sent me an email saying there is a message for me at the ceac and I must logon to read it! It's infuriating because there is no way for me to read that message. They didn't even seem to know that the ceac was down. They certainly didn't mention it.

I called them and they declined to offer anything more than 'you should periodically try to logon.'

Nobody else here seems to notice this problem. At least I have not seen any messages about it.

Good work getting those forms fixed so quickly! I couldn't agree more about checking things over & reading the instructions - you can't rely on lawyers or prep services to get things right, even though they'll happily take your money regardless...

Also, I don't think you need to worry about the expiry date of the i-130/i-130a - since USCIS haven't updated the forms, they'll continue accepting petitions with the old expiry date until there's a new set published. Obviously I'm sure you want to get the process moving again as quickly as possible in any case, though.

I have my fingers crossed that things go smoothly for you from here on out!

Justed got through to USCIS on phone, they said reprinting everything is okay and they don't have any rules about resending old forms. They basically said since it was rejected (or half done) it doesn't really matter if its old forms or updated onws. They also said that it's "people processed",  just type on paper and say everything is reprinted and updated.

I was optimistic, I read all of the instructions carefully and the only question I had that was NOT covered in the instructions was: what to put in as parent addresses for parents who are deceased. I guessed and put in "deceased" for all four of them. Our I-130 was approved after just over six months with no questions asked.

Now the bigger problem is the Visa Processing Center where it is MANDATORY to submit the I-260 through their web site but that has been down for at least 36 hours and they told me they have no idea when it will be fixed. They also declined to tell me what the problem is.

  10. Some of that is news to me. Thanks;

But then, how did he pay his med school expenses? Did he have a fellowship? Was he living in University housing? A whole lot of non-cash stuff is considered to be 'in kind' income which has to be reported! It sounds like you will need a tax accountant if you are ever required to file those back returns.

I just (a couple of days ago) submitted my i-864 and tax returns for any years prior to 2017 are OPTIONAL! I did not submit them because it's a pain in the neck to get things into their submit format.

I don't think you need a letter as long as you can submit for 2017.

  11. Where did you get the idea that 'being in med school' exempts you from filing a tax return? Just because you did not owe any Federal Income taxes, you MUST file a return every year to document that fact. Once you have filed, they expect you to file every year until you are dead. Then, your estate has to file for the year in which you died.

Get BUSY and prepare those returns and get them filed. If you owed zero taxes, then very likely there will be no penalties.

  12. Yesterday (July 11 in US, July 12 in Taiwan,) I received a notice from the NVC that allows me to continue this process for my wife. On my timeline (here) the AOS data field is hidden; stating that my type of visa (IR-1) does not require an AOS. Nevertheless, the NVC online system presented me with a bill for an AOS (US$120) which I have paid. What is going on here?
