what about the medical btw? are we the one who scheduled it? or them?

After emailing them packet 3 (once you have all the documents on the checklist), they'll reply back within the same day or later with packet 4, which tells you how to book your medical exam and interview.  However, i'm curious to know if i'll actually receive by snail mail packet 3. XD That would make everything much more official.

hey, glad to see a canadian beneficiary here.. do you guys have you nvc #?

just wondering, if you already have your packet 3, can you sched for medical? or interview? really don't know what to do next. lol

It happened all so quickly. We got approved Feb 5, the NVC already gave us our case number, and for some reason we got an e-mail from the NVC stating that the Montreal U.S. embassy accepted that our case be expedited... My fiancé and I never asked for our case to be expedited lol... Basically it says that the Montreal U.S. embassy is Ready for us to set up an interview since Feb 27, but we must send our packet 3 to them first.  ( I still haven't received a letter in the mail from the embassy though)

I believe the marriage/divorce decrees are only if they are applicable? That's just what I see from reading those. I could be wrong.

There's such a thing in Canada as a Statement in Lieu of Certificate of Non-Impediment to Marriage Abroad. https://www.redsealnotary.com/Publications/2013-07-23-What-is-a-Certificate-of-Non-Impediment-for-Marriage-Abroad.php   However, i haven't read anything online requiring us to provide a certificate that proves our single status to the interview...

I'm curious about that too. I've only just gotten my NOA2 so I haven't looked into the list yet. I'm visiting my fiance so I'll look more when I'm home. The Canada specific forum may have better info?

    Packet 4: https://ca.usembassy.gov/wp-content/uploads/sites/27/2016/03/Packet4-MTL.pdf

It seriously does confuse me because they want you to gather all these documents for the interview. : (

Thank you for making this thread! I had a look at the DS-160 and was kind of intimidated. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

My to do list for papers to secure include:

    ○ Police Clearance

    ○ fresh copies of birth certificate

    ○ Certificate of No Marriage

    ○ Transcript of Records and School Diploma (for future use)

Is an updated letter of intent to marry mandatory?

We need a certificate of no marriage if we’ve never been married? Where do you obtain such a document ? ... wouldn’t the most recent tax return prove your status of being single ?

Hello! What is Packet 3 and where can I see that checklist?

I'm following the U.S. embassy in Canada's instructions. Basically once we have our case number from the NVC and your local embassy received your case, you can send the embassy packet 3 to later receive packet 4, and book a medical exam/interview date.

Hey, so is the petitioner is the foreign fiancé? Cause if we need to ask our american fiances to get us an original copy of their birth certificate that is really something we need to look into, since we don't see them that often () . But the other link you provided from the canada embassy only states that we need to bring for the interview our birth certificate, so that can only mean the foreign fiance cause the american doesn't need to go to the interview...

I've been browsing through various websites, and many say that we require the original birth certificate of our american fiancé(e)s.

    http://www.k1approved.com/k1-fiance-visa-guide/k1-visa-interview-checklist/

"Originals of all documents submitted in connection with the fiancé visa petition submitted to USCIS, such as the U.S. citizen petitioner’s birth certificate and proof that any prior marriages have ended."

I was asking because it mentions in the link above that we must bring both the original and photocopy version of the birth certificate, and i'm wondering if we have to have the original version of the petitioner's birth certificate for the interview as well. If yes, do you guys think that a certified copy of my fiancé's birth certificate is valid rather than have him send me his original ?
I feel like we need to prepare in advance for this since acquiring legal documents from the government can easily take anywhere from one to two weeks ... plus another week to send it to the beneficiary.
