We filed in mid-February, but had to change addresses a couple of times and are now permanently based in NYC (since July 2018). Does anyone know if our case would go to the back of the line every time we changed addresses (really hoping not!)? I receive monthly e-mails saying "your case is still under review... bla bla bla". Currently waiting to be called to interview. It's been very frustrating, as I'm sure everyone here understands...

Also, since we are now in NY, is it safe to assume this is my designated filed office? Waiting times are up to 30 (!) months... hard to believe it...

Thanks so much, appreciate the help.

Hi, I also moved during the AOS process from Wichita, KS to San Francisco, CA. I filed in February. Unfortunately my experience has not been an easy one - I changed the address online, I also went to the Wichita office before moving to confirm change of address and ask the same questions you have...

The guy in Wichita said that at that point (early September 2018) my packet was still waiting to be sent to the local office, and when the time came they would simply scan my files and the change of address would come up and be sent to the correct place, so there would be no delay.

Roll forward to December, my interview is scheduled...I got the letter which had been forwarded from my old address, they scheduled it in Wichita. I called them, they basically say they don’t know why that happened as my current CA address is the one they have on file and they will reschedule my interview. I didn’t hear anything for 30 days so I called again, still no action taken. This was a few days before the scheduled interview so obviously I was concerned as failure to show up results in denial. USCIS were not helpful at this point as I brought this up and they just said ‘it’s a risk’. Even though I had taken all the steps to do this properly.

Anyway, a week or so after my interview was supposed to happen, I got a letter to say the request for reschedule was accepted and my case was sent to SF. I confirmed on the phone with USCIS that I’m back at the start of the queue for SF, which is considerably longer than Wichita. So here I am 5 months later, still waiting, and expect to be for a while yet 😂

I’m hoping my experience was a one off, but as it was happening I did some research online and I’m certainly not the only person this has happened to. I really hope you have better luck than me!

There is no information on this because this is not an issue. Regardless of what the above post says- there is no requirement to update the 864 if things change. It is considered accepted and is 'valid at time of submission'. Now the Officer conducting your interview may discover you have a change in circumstances and request an updated form. If your updated form isnt enough you can add a co-sponsor.

You can bring an updated form + cosponsor form with you to the interview but do not offer it unless asked. For most things in immigration its best to be upfront with things- but this is not applicable advice for this situation because again your 864 is VALID as it is. Theres no reason to suggest to the Officer to re- review an accepted and valid form (unless youre into self- flagellation 😮  :) )

Wow, it seems pretty crazy that the information doesn’t need to be up to date (not that I’m complaining!)

Thanks so much for this info! I will definitely fill in a new form to take with me to the interview to be safe. :)

You would have to send in an updated I864 most likely because of his change in finances. You cannot sponsor yourself as the AOS applicant but you can include your income in the current total household income on Page 4, Part 6, Q.8 of your sponsor's (husband's) I864 form. If that amount meets the financial poverty guidelines you SHOULD be alright but it would be probably safer if he had some type of assets or savings to "up the ante" so to speak as it obviously wouldnt look good with your current income being the only source as the applicant.

The SAFEST option would be to get your MIL to co-sponsor as well. She would just fill out a seperate I864 and supply the required financial documents as well.

I'm not sure how the interview proceeds in this situation. Ie if they will ask you if your finiancial situation has changed or if you will have to be forth coming with new info but as you can see on your interview letter it states to bring the I864 (IF NOT ALREADY SUBMITTED). It's not really clear if the I864 has been already investigated (ie employers called to verify income) or if that is completed after the interview so that's something to consider too.

    Thanks for the response! :)

You’re totally right - safest option at this point is definitely MIL. I guess as long as I can take an updated/joint I-864 to my interview, I just need to wait and see where we are when my interview is scheduled - as it could still be a long time and he could be employed by then.

I just want to make sure that’s the right thing to do and I’m not supposed to mail a new one or anything before that point - you mentioned sending it in. I just don’t know how to get it sent in and put with the rest of my files, without an RFE. I guess I should give USCIS a call and see what their advice would be.

I’m pretty surprised there isn’t more info out there on this - I’m sure people must lose/change jobs occasionally as it’s a pretty long process and life happens!

  4. I am currently ‘ready to be scheduled for interview’ in the AOS process. I am struggling to find information on what to do in this situation - my husband was military and has finished his service so we have moved back to his hometown. So not only have I had to change all of the addresses related to my forms, he is also currently unemployed. So everything that was previously on the I-864 form is now not current.

He is currently seeking a job, but also may use his GI bill to start school next year. Financially, between his military payments and my own job and our savings, we’re doing great but obviously he needs to meet the requirements. So what do I do about updating the information on the I-864? Do I submit a new one? Fill in another and take it to interview?

If needed, my mother-in-law would easily be able to do a I-864 for me too...I just don’t know how to add a joint sponsor at this point.

I just can’t seem to find any information on this - I’d really appreciate any advice. Thanks!

Hello fellow VJers. I have another question.

I received an email yesterday saying my wife’s EAD was approved and we should receive it within 30 days.

Today I logged into the my.uscis.gov website and it says the EAD card is being produced. But it says her appeal for AP was denied. It was never appealed due to an initial denial. Has anyone gotten a message like that. We have not received an email saying it’s been denied. I am hoping it’s a combo card EAD/AP so they just closed out the AP.

    Any thoughts?

I got the same message about my AP too. It is the combo card, don’t worry! :)

Hi Everyone I am a May filer but had a question: Did or has everyone got the Fingerprint Review Was Completed e-mail/text/uscis web update? I

I've been investigating here in visa journey and a lot of the Feb/Mar/ Apr/ and May filers got theirs 3 days after bio appt. , just asking for your experiences.

I've also notice not everyone updates their timelines <_< (:D)

Hi, I didn't get it at all. I had my biometrics appointment on April 5th and never got any update - it stayed the same (case received) until April 18th when it changed to 'ready to be scheduled for interview'. Now just waiting!

What evidence do they ask to submit please? Will they take a letter from an employer or does the employer have to send their payroll information and stuff like that to show you really have a job?

Hi, my reason for expedite was not employment related it’s actually an unusual situation to do with my military access card to the base I live on and not having an SSN. I submitted a letter from myself explaining the situation and a letter from military officials and my husbands military orders as proof. Sorry I realise that’s not very helpful!

From what I’ve read from other users, a letter from the prospective employer is usually the evidence that is submitted for an employment related expedite. You are not allowed to work before you have work authorization so I guess proof of payroll etc is not accepted.

Congrats! I just received my job offer letter from hopefully future employer and called uscis today and inquired for expedition ;) now waiting for the email from them, hopefully it will finish as soon as yours!

I just expedited my EAD too, to give you an idea of the timeline I called to request the expedite on April 18th, got an email requesting more evidence the next day (April 19th) and submitted the evidence on April 20th.

I heard nothing until today when I got an update to say my card is in production! :D

    Hey guys!

i just got my 3 notifications yesterday via text/email so I’m awaiting hard copies in the mail 😎

does anyone know when they send the social security number? With the NOA1?  We opted for them to send it in the mail. Unfortunately we had to use a lawyer for the last part of his application due to his career so I’m not even sure of the date USCIS actually received it. Once I get the NOA1 I’ll feel better knowing I can track it myself.

They won’t issue you a SSN until your EAD is approved so you won’t get it with NOA1 unfortunately.

I’m waiting on it too - when I went to the social security office they said I couldn’t have one because I applied after marriage on my K1. I didn’t realise that was incorrect and actually I was entitled to have an SSN issued but it’s too late now :(

  10. Hi, at Knightsbridge you are required to have a chest X-ray, blood sample taken, urine sample and an examination with a doctor. On the day you must bring with you 4 passport style photos, police certificate, photo ID, vaccination record and a brief medical history from your doctor (outlining any major illnesses or surgeries you have had). There is also a questionnaire to fill out and bring with you. In my experience it was straightforward and everyone was very friendly.

It costs £300 and extra if you require any vaccinations. (Prices listed here http://www.knightsbridge-doctors.com/practice-fees.htm).

The vaccinations required are listed here: vaccine_chart.pdf

Bare in mind if you are applying on a K visa you aren’t required to have these before your entry into the USA, however you WILL need them when you adjust status to permenant resident so it’s worth considering getting them done at this point.

    Hey fellow filers,

I am a latecomer to the group but am sending off my AOS either today or tomorrow. I just realized however that I printed all  my forms double sided- I have since heard that maybe USCIS only accepts single sided forms? Could someone please let me know if there is such a requirement?

    Thanks a lot!

I have heard this too although I'm not 100% sure if there is a requirement - if you haven't sent it yet I would print it again single sided, just to be safe! No point causing a delay if it can be avoided before you start :)

  12. Hey guys, just thought I'd let you know I got my biometrics appointment letter in the mail today. It is booked for April 4th.

To give you an idea of my timeline between NOA and biometrics if you're waiting -

    USCIS recieved: Feb 26th

Called USCIS March 12th - NOA hard copies had been sent March 8th - texts/emails received that night

    Hard copies received: March 16th

    Biometrics letter: March 23rd

What a shame that you didn't apply sooner for an SSN. I first received a temporary ID as well, until I received my SSN.
I also applied for AOS and EAD in August last year and still haven't heard a thing :/

Glad you were wiser than me and managed to get your SSN! Wow that's a long time, they're supposed to be processed within 90 days, have you called USCIS about it?

  14. 3 minutes ago, pattyandvern said:

They called back!!! :) Lady told me they accepted my i-485 and i-131 but they rejected ead, so I will need to fix it and send it back to them. The NOA were send to me March 10. She said to wait up to one week. Such a relief!

Yay! :D Glad to hear. Sorry about your EAD, hopefully you’ll be able to fix it and get it sent back in no time. At least you can stop worrying now!

  15. 2 hours ago, pattyandvern said:

Thank you, I will definetely do that!

Nothing in the mail today for me :( but I called uscis. I have to wait for a call back from tier2. The estimated time 333minutes :/ i hope it is going to be sooner than that.

That was the same estimated time for me as well. It took about 4 hours. When they called it came up as 'Scam Likely' on my iPhone so just make sure you answer if that happens!

  16. I got here on a K1 in December 2017, got married and enrolled in DEERS, got my ID card for 90 days without an SSN. Went to renew it this month and they said because I still haven't got my SSN they can still give me an ID card to access base housing but I am not enrolled in Tricare so now I have no medical insurance. I tried giving them my A-number but they didn't appear to know what to do with that. I won't be getting my SSN for another 3 months at least whilst I am applying for EAD so now I'm left with no insurance during that time.

Really frustrated because I didn't realise I wouldn't be able to get a SSN number after we got married (I tried before applying for EAD) and wish I had just done it before, but there is nothing I can do now.

Nothing :( I got a note from post office that they got a package for me but Im afraid it is not from uscis but from my mom from Poland. I will check tomorrow as post office is closed for today.

can I ask when u called uscis all you had to provide was your name or they wanted any tracking number or any other information?

Sorry to hear that :( I wonder if calling them prompted them to get the text and emails sent out. According to the tracker my case was received on the 26th Feb!

When I called them, I explained the situation and they said they need to transfer my call to the next level officers to find out what was happening since it had been longer than 10 days since I sent the package. I had to request a call back as there was such a high volume of calls, the tier 2 officer called back about 4 hours later and asked my name, date of birth and address to confirm my identity. She was able to find my info on the database and tell me my case had been received and my NOA1 hard copies were in the mail. It's definitely worth giving them a call if you're stressing about it!
