I've been a silent reader of this thread for over a year now. First, I want to thank all the posters for their updates, it's been an emotional roller coaster journey:)
I wanted to update you about my recent experience. I'm a March filer and I have the same notifications and status updates as most people. "On March 5th the case has been transferred to the local office" and "name was updated" (although I've never changed the name).

Yesterday, I went to Boston field office to get my I-551 stamp. The officer said that my case is still in Vermont and it was assigned to a person for processing. There're no mass transfers of cases happening, so the transfer can only happen if the case is scheduled for the interview.  In case of Boston, it will take an additional 9-12 month to schedule an interview because of the backlog.

The officer went on saying that every one of them has a very different understanding of Bona Fide Marriage. Documents that one officer considers enough, might not work for another person.

Since my case was assigned to the office for processing I asked how long on average does it take to hear the news. The officer said that most of them in the service centers are working from home and are assigned 100-150 cases per week. But it doesn't mean that they process them right away, because of other things they are working on. It usually takes 6 to 8 weeks to hear something from USCIS after the case was assigned to an officer.

The 'Received in local office' does not mean anything like it sounds.
One person finally got a good answer from a person at USCIS who  knows what is happening.

What happens is when a file is moved even from one room to another room at the same location (Vermont or California) it is logged in and out and creates this very misleading wording about 'received in local office.'  It should say, of course, 'moved from room A to room B.'

And don't be assuming this means there is real movement of your case.  With thousands of these showing up in most everyone's timeline, you can bet they  aren't suddenly going to be able to process thousands of cases any sooner than they were before.  This could be something as simple as they need to paint one room, so they moved a ton of files from that room to another room.

And further, no one here should want their file to be transferred to their really local office near their home, because . . .
If you look at the new timelines, local offices are taking up to 48 months to process ROC's compared to 12-19 months at Vermont and California.

N 400 is not relevant to I 751 because it's 2 different processes. A lot of ppl choose not to file n400 because there has been information from different sources that it might delay the whole process, or other reasons. In this thread we only discussing ROC, but not questions about filling out n400 form. Besides, the questions on form about leaving the country is the same no matter when you file in 3 or 5 years, so please post in appropriate threads. Thank you
