  1. Happy Saturday everybody. :)

For those who are sick, I hope you get better soon. Being sick isn't so great in general but being sick on holidays and weekends always seemed worse to me.

I found this picture when I was searching for an image using Google's image search. And, I was searching for the word January. Go figure!

Anyways, I thought it was too funny not to share. How awesome would this be??

Here's the link to the page that it's from.

  2. I've had Verizon for a long time.

It used to be that I could send my hubby texts, but he couldn't text me. Then he switched phone companies and he could text me but couldn't get my texts.

It's a good idea about sending the texts from the computer, except as you mention he has to pay for computer access.

It appears that it depends, with Verizon, upon which cell company he uses, as to whether you two can text or not.

So what did you decide to do? Seems like either way one of you isn't getting the other's texts.

We're just leaving it as is. It's the latest phone company that opened up in Egypt that he switched to, and at which he can't get my text messages. So, I just get them from him and it's okay. It costs more to send then receive international texts anyways on Verizon. Plus, I have a calling card and I call him for a couple of minutes every day at lunch. Hearing his voice is much nicer than being able to text! :luv:

  4. I decided to get out a quilt I've been working on for a while but that I haven't touched lately. I got the sewing machine out and was doing some test stitches and it got stuck going backwards. No matter how many times I press the backwards button it won't reset and go forwards! So, off to the sewing machine center tomorrow to see if they can fix it. I've had the same machine for somewhere around 25 years, so maybe it's time for a "tune-up" anyways. :D

It must be a sign from Allah that I need to relax and not do anything today.

Jackie those are cute pictures, thanks for sharing.

  5. Sounds like most everyone is having a nice time with family and friends. Besides those dealing with large amounts of snow.

My son and I went to see the second National Treasure movie this morning. It was great! :D

Then this afternoon we went to and Eid party at a park nearby. Thankfully it was about 60 degrees out, so not too cold.

I think we're going to make some pumpkin bread in just a little bit.

I'm actually thankful that as a Muslim I'm not celebrating Christmas anymore. It's much more relaxing not having to worry about what presents to buy people that they don't really want with money that I don't really have. :)

I keep thinking that with all the money people spend buying each other things at Christmas, the US could make a very big dent every year in helping the truly needy people in this country, instead of those who have no need at all.

I do still like to see all the lights outside though. It cheers up what is otherwise a very dark time of year.

Anyways, happy holidays to all, whatever you're celebrating.

  6. I had a henna design done on one of my hands tonight for Eid.

It looks pretty but it stinks something awful and I guess I have to wrap my hand so I don't stain the sheets while I'm sleeping tonight.

I can see this won't be my favorite thing to have done. :P

Happy Eid everyone and happy Friday.

  7. I know there are seatbelts in the front seats but I didn't once see any in any of the backseats that I was in when we took taxis, and we took *alot* of taxis in five weeks.

I'm sure the newer cars probably have seatbelts in the backseat but I just didn't see any.

I find it crazy that only the driver is fined if not wearing a seatbelt. Do none of the other people in the car matter???!!!

And the whole families riding around on scooters without helmets and a baby in front on the drivers lap. Crazy scary.

Before going I thought I would never attempt to drive there. Even after being there for a bit I didn't think I would. By the end of the trip though I could imagine at some point driving there. :D

  8. You must have alot of willpower. I'm afraid if I make it I'll just end up eating most of it myself. :D

Someone at work brought in something called Aussie Bites. He offered me one and I tried it and absolutely fell in love with the things. He said he got them at Costco. Not sure if that is a national chain or not.

Anyways, I went online to see if I could find a recipe for them since I don't have a Costco membership. I found a recipe and am hoping to try it out in the next few days. If it turns out good I'll post it.

they look like mini muffins but are harder like a cookie. They have oats, flour, honey, butter, sunflower seeds, raisins and some other few things. They are just yumalicious! :luv:

  9. There have been many-a-topic started with ppl asking about learning Arabic. I stumbled upon this really cool site and wanted to share it with you all. It is actually for all languages but I thought of you all first!!! ENJOY

  10. Hello everyone and happy Sunday.

Although my husband and I are legally married in Egypt (the marriage being registered and everything), we could not get married at the Ministry of Justice. Which means we are not officially married in the U.S.

I know it has been mentioned before that if you get married in your spouses country but it's not legal in the states, that there could be some problems with filing, and that the government might think there is some fraud or something going on.

It seems to me that I can't file for K3 since our marriage isn't valid in the U.S, but I don't want to have any problems filing for K1 either.

Does anyone have any ideas about this?

Also, since the prices went up, does anyone have a rough estimate of how much it costs for filing all the forms? We don't want to start filing until we know we have the money for it.

    Thanks

    :star:

  11. Alright, better late than never? :D

Pecan Pie (from Joy of Cooking)

This makes a 9 inch single crust pie.

(I'm posting the filling ingredients only.)

Preheat oven to 450 degrees F.

Line a pan with a pie dough and bake it only partially, from 5 to 7 minutes.

    Allow it to cool.

Reduce oven temperature to 375 degreed F.

    Combine and beat thoroughly:

    3 eggs

    1 cup sugar

    1/2 teaspoon salt

    1/3 cup melted butter

    1 cup light corn syrup

    Stir in:

    1 cup pecan halves

    1 teaspoon vanilla

Fill the shell. Bake the pie for 40 or 50 minutes at 375 degrees F or until a knife inserted in the filling comes out clean. Serve warm or cold.

We had a pumpkin pie from Costco at Thanksgiving and it was sooo yummy! I love trying new things but there's nothing like a simple pumpkin pie. :luv:

  12. Silly question, but how do you broil on low? Isn't broiling putting something on the top rack of the oven, directly under the heating element, with the setting on broil?

Also, does anyone have a bagel recipe that they've used? I was really missing bagels in Egypt and when I got home I looked around for a recipe.

This is one I found on Food Network but it seems complicated and I can't imagine that's how bagels are really made???

  13. I wish I had a timeline to update!!! :D

I was originally referred to this board to get information about the K1 and K3 visa and processes.

The information that I read was really useful even though I wasn't filing at that particular point in time.

Now that we're married I hope to be filing soon. I Wish that I could have filed sooner and already be living with my hubby now, but things just didn't happen as fast as we wanted.

:o :o :o Mellyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyy you got married ?????!!!!! OMG I had no idea -- did I miss the announcement somewhere ?? Or were you holding out on us :P Congratulations -- I am so very happy for you !!!

Come to think of it, no, I didn't announce it anywhere. I guess I just didn't think about it. Silly me. We got married on October 13th.

    :luv:

    Thanks for the congrats!
