I am in the same boat heading to basic training next week

I found this document by the DOD explaining the naturalization situation for green card holders

The most important part is attached in the photo

Thank you so much that what I was looking for , so we need to serve 180 including basic training to be able to get the n426 certified and apply for citizenship

Yes, the basic training counts when you are AD. So that's why people start when they graduate AIT which is usually around the 5-6 month mark.

Do you know what you want or are going to in the Army?

I don’t have much choice when it come to jobs since I am only a gc holder even thought I scored 97 in the ASVAB

You file I-751 to remove conditions on your gc.  You can do that 3 months before and up to your gc expiration date.  You get a I-751 NOA1 document back that gives you an 18 month extension.  Let us know when you learn when you will get your N-426 military honorable service document that you will need for your N-400 naturalization document submittal.

alright I will keep posting here updates

I have been doing research myself for my son who comes to the USA in 2 weeks as 10 year GC immigrant and just talked with several different service recruiters in person: looks like boot camp plus completing tech training is when you can get N-426 needed for N-400 naturalization document submittal.

Please write back when you find out about your N-426. This is all a moving target so getting real information like yours is very helpful for our green card service members.

The background check should not be needed for your N-426. It is for other purposes.

I am in the same situation , I will be shipped to basic training soon and I have no idea when I can get the N-426 certified so I can apply for citizenship , I am also afraid since I am on conditional gc that my GC will be expired before I get citizenship

Ok, you and @Abdeslam led me down a rabbit hole that I will continue to delve in to. But I have never heard of being eligible after only 1 day of service at all. I have heard of people getting their naturalization after AIT and Basic under the MAVNI program a few years ago. As of right now they have stopped that program or are no longer accepting applicants for it. So the most recent guidance i have heard is that the service member is expected to been in AD for over 6 months before applying for Expedited Naturalization.

Thanks for the reply man so yeah I need to wait 180 day before requesting the N 426 to be certified

I also wanted to ask you , I am enlisted as AD , does basic training count as Active duty service knowing that I already signed the contract  ?

Never heard of this "1 day" of active duty, now even 180 days. While there is a "fast track" option, it's no where that fast.

Even this sounds too fast to me, thought it was 2 years, least it was while I was in the Army.

    https://www.uscis.gov/military/naturalization-through-military-service

all the information are available in the official USCI website

I am just wondering if I need to fill the N426 upon my arrival to basic training or after i spend 180 on AD

  7. Hello guys , I am about to go to basic training in the next couple of weeks , and I would like to file for citizenship , I did read on the USCI website that after 1 day of active duty I can fill for citizenship , and I read somewhere else that I should serve 180 days to get the n426 certified so I am wondering where and when can i get this form certified

Just an update. I had my interview for GC this morning at 8:00 AM in San Antonio USCIS office and got approved on the spot. Few minutes after, the online website my status updated to new card being produced. The IO was very nice. Did nit ask us anything. Just verified some papers. But they did ask me an updated medical records. Good thing I followed one of the members here to do another medical before the interview.

Hope all the July filers will get their GC soon. Happy new year indeed. And oh, I will be starting a new job too on Monday, Jan 7. Happy to start my 2019 right!

    God bless us all!

Damn, congrats @Jiga! I'm currently on 134 days. They received my case exactly the same day as yours actually, on the 31st of July! I'm hoping to find out soon. I've been checking the case checker and not the other new one. Which one is best to be checking?

In my case I recieved the card in the mail with no notification in the case tracker or on dhs website

    I think we're still okay.
It's only been 4 months and I know some July folks already got it.
But am staying patient until about month end

Today mark exactly 120 since they received my files and 82 days since the status changed to ready to be scheduled for an interview , San Antonio Texas no EAD or AP  yet :(

Hi, all! Congratulations to everyone who’s had their cases picked up! It gives the rest of us July people hope. 😊 Just sharing that I’m excitedly waiting for my EAD (filed through NBC with a July 25, 2018 NOA date and Biometrics done last August), although my USCIS website still says that my EAD Case was “Received”. My AOS says I’m  “Ready to Schedule for Interview,” But thanks to y’all people who say theirs doesn’t update periodically too, I’m thinking this is just them not updating my EAD status as much as my AOS. 😬😬 Sounds trivial, but it’s nerve wracking lol. 😬😬 Good luck to us all! 😊😊😊

Same here I filled in San Antonio, my Ead is case received since July 13 and my Aos is ready to be scheduled for an interview since August 20 , hopefully we will hear some news soon

    Incorrect.
Biometrics are NOT done at your local office

They are done at ASC (Application Support Centers)

I see you already had ur AOS interview- if you check the address for ur local office and where u did biometrics, u will see that they were not the same place.

ASCs are never (rarely) backed up since literally all they do is fingerprinting services- and as almost everyone knows, it takes 5-20 mins to be in and outta there.

And most people are sent to the ASC close to them- not necessarily the one in their local city.
There are usually multiple ASCs per city whereas each city ONLY has one local office (am not counting the big places like LA). Some smaller states might even only even get one local office but might have 2-3 ASC offices

I did my biometrics in my local office wish is San Antonio
