  1. Dear all,

We had our interview at Boston field office today and thought I would share our experience. My wife's appointment was at 7:15 (dependent) and mine at 8:15, but the officer took us both together at right around 7:15. She seemed very pleasant and the first thing we had to sign was a waiver saying that we were OK being interviewed without our attorney. She did ask us quite a few questions about each other to make sure we really knew each other but we have been married for 11 years and there were no surprises for either one of us; date of marriage, spouses full name, phone number, what did she do in India, her parents' names, how did we meet, how did I propose, what kind of research do I currently do, etc were all pretty standard and prepared for.

We did bring with us all the copies of everything, but the officer just took our passport and EAD cards and made copies herself. The only thing she asked for was my employment letter and we had it handy so no issues there either. We were a bit nervous about birth certificate in our language, English translation, etc but she didn't even ask us anything about that.

We were done in about 30-40 minutes. Everything seems positive, but....no sigh of relief until we have the card in hand which is anticipated in 2-3 weeks. I guess everyone here knows the feeling.

I wish all the best to all my fellow May filers!

6.5 months?! What the hell....that's so ridiculous. If they're gonna take that long for EAD, they should just schedule the interview super fast for you guys and approve your GC.

Agreed. This defeats the purpose of EAD. Of course, their goal of discouraging foreign workers is fully accomplished, as I have seriously considered leaving for Canada/Australia! I am a PhD and my wife is MD and this is NOT what we had in mind after all those years of graduate/medical school and residency/postdoc training.

Big Big Big congratulations to you, i know how exhausting the wait is as i am in the same position (sent package on the 4th, NOA on the 8th). I am still waiting for mine also and i have gone through SR & Expedite and was advised by the last USCIS Level 2 officer that i last spoke with not to do anything that it will come, she says the more i do the longer it'll take so i am just patiently waiting, hopefully mine comes soon also. Congratulations once again and i hope you get your interview soon.

oh, pls try update your VJ Timeline also.

Thank you so much! And I was told something similar to by immigration officers at Boston field office, about not meddling with the application at all if possible. I honestly could not find a pattern for anything anyone said on the phone, congressional office or INFOpass.

Anyway, I wish you all the best too :)

And I have now updated my timeline.

Are there any other early May filers, AOS from K1, that are still on Fingerprint Fee Received and case at Missouri NBC like us?

It's been 5 months no update on GC application - we did get my wife's EAD/AP combo card about a month ago though.

My wife is K1 to AOS, filed May 3 (fingerprint fee update is from May 9), and we are in New York (queens area).

best I can tell is we might be one of those who has interview waived but it will take 6-9 months to get GC

May 1st application, still nothing for my wife :( (not even EAD or AP)

Today, she had an appointment at field office with INFOpass. The officer looked into her profile and said he did not understand what the meaning of her current status meant (he did not know how to interpret it). My wife asked him once if it seemed good or bad but he refused to answer and she decided to leave that be. He did take down her email/phone # and said he will get in touch once he finds out.

Has anyone ever heard of anything like that? I am dumbfounded!

Just checked USCIS and it shows my wife's card is being produced.  It only states that on the work authorization number and has not updated the travel number.  I should receive a combo card correct?

How long after YOUR approval did your wife receive approval? I received approval notice on Friday. Hoping something for wife's case soon as we need that for her job.

On September 9, 2017, your request to have your case expedited, referral number xxxxxxxxxx, was assigned to an officer for response.

What was the basis for your expedite request again?

  7. After speaking to a very helpful T1 officer, she decided to write a bunch of stuff on my case profile and assigned it to an officer. That was yesterday 1:00 PM eastern time. Haven't heard anything since then. This is our 2nd SR (PD May 1st, Nebraska). The 1st SR was responded the next day first thing in the morning with "need 30 more days" crapp. I want to believe that this time they might actually be working on my case, but the whole process has battered me enough not to get my hopes high :(

Anyone has any experience? How long does it take for them to respond after service request is assigned? Am I reading too much into the whole thing? Am I going to waste another weekend stressing out?

@spanwilder - let me try to get you some help.  First, can I ask some questions?

Have you tried requesting a tier 2 officer when you call?

What was your SR for, EAD, AOS?  What was the reason for your SR, case outside of normal processing time?  Have you seen whether it's been assigned to an agent yet by checking the case status page?  What was your SR date (when did you put it in and when did they say to expect a reply)?

Which office are your case(s) at and what are you adjusting from?

also, if you fill out a timeline it's much easier for all of us to help you and for you to help us :)

    Hi papasmf,

    My apologies.

I have talked to Tier2 officers twice - the first time the person said 'you have exhausted all your options and there is nothing you can do'.

The second time, the person was a lot more sympathetic and said "Oh man! You truly need help. Let me escalate it" and then in the middle of transferring me to someone else, the phone got disconnected!! :(

My PD s May 1st. SR raised by the lawyer on July 31st due to the case being outside normal processing time. Since case was not even assigned to an IO by August 7th, I called again and Tier1 representative assigned it to someone on August 7th. On August 8th, I received the same trite response "you need to wait another 60 days....sorry for the inconvenience"

My case is at Nebraska and is based on my spouse's approved I-140 back in February. We applied for I-485, I-765 and I-131 simultaneously. I used to be on H1 myself previously, but that expired on June 30th and my current status is I-485 pending. His H1 is still valid so he is fine.

No, I did quite a lot because I was desperate.

    1. Included letter in application. I doubt that helped any.

    2. CONTACTED MY CONGRESSMAN!! Call them!!!

    3. Wrote in to the ombudsman. This also never helped because I was still within the processing time. It might work out differently for you.

    4. Put in FIVE SRs on the phone. Asked that they read me back whatever it was they typed in the SR request and constantly mentioned that I would lose my job.

    5. Had my USC husband call and email the congressman with his voter ID number constantly asking for updates.

    6. Contacted the SENATOR. Now he said he couldn't help. But what he DID do was contact the congressman (AGAIN) on my behalf.

    7. Booked TWO infopasses. They were also unhelpful because they said they had "never seen" an EAD get produced in 1 month (well, in your face USCIS!!!) Because you are well overdue, this might be different for you too. Schedule an infopass asap and bring all your documents.

I EVENTUALLY received an email from USCIS asking me for evidence. Once you get there, we can discuss all the things to send in.

You need to call and talk to a tier 2 and ask why the hell nobody is listening to you. Tell them you're about to lose your job! Cry! I did! Lol. You need to schedule an infopass. And you need to call your congressman.

I am with you in this because I know how stressful it was having a job on the line.

And also maybe they didn't ask for evidence because they're already processing your application? Could be!

sending allllll the positive vibes your way xoxoxo

Wow. That's amazing Thank you so much for the detailed explanation.

I have already contacted the congressman's office. The representative said there might be a case for humanitarian reasons here (because I am a pediatric oncologist and my inability to start work affects healthcare for children with cancer!). They have asked for all the documents yesterday but haven't gotten back. Should I wait for the congressman's office to respond or put in another expedite request?

I also just checked for another InfoPass appointment and nothing is available in the next 14 days. I guess I will have to keep checking.

I will certainly ask for Tier2 officer tomorrow since it will be 120 days and "beg for help".

You can ask to speak with a Tier 2 officer, that way you get more information, sept 6 is almost here, did you ever send them the proof of your job offer?... the first agent that picks the call always give a generic response, as I have read from other peoples post.

Tier1 person said he needs to put in a brief description of the reason for expedite request and if the IO feels like this is an emergency they will ask for more evidence. We had all the evidence ready including letter from employer requesting assistance from USCIS, but alas, they rejected the requested without even asking for evidence.

Like I have read from other posts, losing a job is not considered a real emergency to USCIS it seems :(

Dont stress. Call, call, call. Be as persistent as possible. Its your life, your money, your application.

You mean, call USCIS everyday? What do you say when you call? They always give us the standard useless answer. I am about to lose a job on September 6th - and we made an expedite request for that and received the "we only approve expedite request for real emergencies"!! I don't think these people realize the stress we go through.

I guess I will call again tomorrow since it will be 120 days.
