You can look at processing times here. https://egov.uscis.gov/processing-times/

Technically, an immigration officer would be able to look you up in the system, yes. But for that, you would need an appointment at your local USCIS office. To get one, you would have to call the general USCIS number and it is unlikely that the agent will agree to schedule an appointment for you at the local office.

Your letter is coming. Just be patient. That's my best advice.

    Yay!!!!!!!

It's in today's Informed Delivery! So happy! Thanks everyone who reassured me.

Do you happen to have a long address with apartment number?

Yes, I do have an apartment number. Maybe it's just a USPS delay.

My case number starts with LIN (btw, where can we see the estimated times for each center?)

Can I really use the case number to get an I551 stamp? Or is that unlikely to get approved?

    I hope it's in tomorrow's mail.

  3. Here's my timeline so far:

    May 15th: sent with USPS

    May 21st: received by USCIS

May 30th: My credit card was charged

June 2nd: Text notification, no email notification

I still haven't received the extension letter. It's not in today's Informed Delivery either.

Did anyone else wait this long? Is it normal? I think if it's not in tomorrow's Informed Delivery, I'm going to try and call USCIS and see what they say. Do you guys think there's a chance they will give me stamp in my passport to hold me over? I'm starting a new job next week and really need the letter for the I9.

@nickandkat, your expired green card and extension letter should suffice. There is a good chance that the Human Resources representative may not be familiar with it. Be prepared to explain it. If they use e-verify, the e-verify system should confirm that you are authorized to work in the US.

By the way, you should be able to go to the Social Security Administration before your green card expires and request an updated Social Security Card. That is of course, if they are open to the public. It's worth trying.

Thank you! I really hope you're right and they accept it.

I will go to the SSA office as well to try and get an updated card. I read in another thread that your green card has to be valid for more than 14 days, but it can't hurt to try!

Should’ve 1. Updated your SS card to remove valid with DHS authorization only and 2. Updated your DL.

All ever needed is unrestricted SSN card and DL to satisfy I-9. I never showed my GC.

Yeah I know, but that's not helpful to me right now. No offense.

I already know I messed up, what should I do now to make sure it will be fine?

  6. Hey guys, I hope you can help me with my predicament.

    Here is my current situation:

Start date of new job: June 16th

    Green card: Expires June 14th

Driver's License: Expires June 14th, but is also lost (I have a paper replacement update card). Will immediately go to the DMV to get a it renewed/replaced once I get the extension letter.

Social Security Card: I think I have it somewhere, but it has "Valid for Employment only with DHS Authorization" written on it.

Extension letter: Hopefully arriving soon. I have recently filed I-751, and my credit card was charged the 680$ on May 30th. Based on current timelines, I am predicting the letter to arrive within the next few days (fingers crossed). Informed delivery hasn't shown anything yet.

Has anyone else been in a similarly messed up situation? I know I shouldn't have procrastinated so much, but I hope and pray that everything will work out.

So what would you guys do if you were in my situation? I still have two weeks. Would you just submit the expired GC + extension letter combo when it arrives?

  7. Hey guys, did this happen to anyone else and is it normal? We had our AOS interview last Thursday and got approved on the spot. Then, this Monday or Tuesday I get the first I-797 saying "Welcome to the United States Of America". But today I check our mail box and there's another I-797 they sent me. I checked and it's identical, same receipt numbers and everything. Weird, right?

  8. No, I didn't send it as Einschreiben because they said to send it with regular mail in the instructions and I figured it wouldn't get lost or anything

But I just realized something...I'm pretty sure the reason I didn't get an e-mail yet is because I didn't pay the MRV fee yet.

I assumed I would have to pay it when I schedule the interview, but I think I have to pay it first and then when they receive the payment they'll send me Packet 4

  9. So last week on Wednesday, I sent in all the documents that the consulate asked for in Packet 3 with regular mail.

I know that most people in Germany said that it usually takes about 2-3 days after you sent it in for them to send a confirmation e-mail.

Now I know that there was Easter last weekend, but even if you subtract those days, it's been 4 working days, so we've been slightly worried that I haven't received anything yet

Is this completely normal and should we wait another couple days, or should I send them an e-mail and ask if they've received it yet?

    Congrats!!

    1. I would definitely check with uscis as it is too recent.

    2. I know people who did that. And you can show that you are going back for interview. But I would just wait for the visa if you can just reschedule the travel plans.

Thanks and I hope they approve you guys soon too!

I'm gonna talk about our travel plans and calling uscis with my fiancée when I can finally tell her later :D

    NickandKat,

today i called the USCIS and said that they are having a back up and to wait another 30 days to receive the NOA 1. If not to email csc-ncsc-followup@uscis.dhs.gov , which is the california center. So now they are gonna have to make me wait 60 days for a NOA 1. WTH.

    Hey carlosr86,

thanks for the info. We're probably still gonna call them too, maybe they're gonna tell us something different.

I really have hope that our NOA1 date is in July/early August and we'll just receive it later so nothing is delayed

Has anyone had a case similar to mine?

    Jul 19, 2017, I submitted 129F package
Jul 21, 2017, Package arrived on and got text message saying that my form has been received (I submitted G-1145).

July 26,2017,  I got an email that my case has been routed to the California Service Center for processing and that within 7-10 days by standard mail I will receive the official receipt notice. (form I-797). Check cashed.

It's  now Aug 15th and no mail. I tried calling USCIS but they wont help me until 20 Aug (which is 1 month after submitting). I have read that people have gotten their NOA1 1-2 weeks max after getting the text message.

My fiancee and are in a similar situation

Jul 24, I-129F sent per USPS to Dallas

Jul 27, I-129F arrived in Dallas (confirmed on the USCIS website)

Jul 31, beneficiary received e- notification e-mail; petitioner did not receive e-mail or text message

Now it's Aug 15 and there's still no hard copy of the NOA1. The USCIS site says that we should call customer service if it's not here by Aug 26 (so 30 days after they receive it apparently)

I really hope this is normal. I'm probably worrying too much. I've read that you don't really need the NOA1 as long as you have your case number.

I wonder what causes stuff like this
