  1. Hi, I’m in the process of filling out my N-400 form online. I’ve worked 2 jobs in the past 5 years. My last day at one job was on a Friday (4 years ago) and I started work on the following Monday, at my current job. When I put those dates in, the online form gave me an error, saying I was missing info for the 2 days in between. Do I say unemployed for the weekend in between those 2 jobs? It just feels weird because I’ve never considered myself unemployed.

We moved about 6 months ago, we both did change of address on I130 and I485, received confirmation, both letters and on the website history it shows that the change of address was completed. They sent this interview letter to our old address even though we did all this changes. Thank god that usps mail forwarding  is still active after 6 months. I haven’t received it yet but I can see it on informed delivery for monday.

The same thing happened to us.  Our new address had been confirmed many times, acknowledged on our online case status, etc.  They still sent the interview notice to our old address.  Make sure when you go to the interview you confirm your new address with the interviewing officer.  When we did that, she said it had been updated everywhere except one spot.  She changed it right then and there and thankfully the green card came to our current address.

It's a big center - there was a citizenship ceremony going on when we arrived. Make sure to check the traffic ahead of time, there was a massive wreck on 114 closing the whole road, luckily we missed it on the way there.

Our appointment was 12:30pm - we turned up at 11:45, sat in the car until 12 - A line of about 15 people to go through security, didn't take long. When you get in, you'll go upstairs & hand your interview letter to the receptionist on the left and they'll tell you to take as eat.

We got called in at around 15-20 minutes after our appointment time - Our interviewing officer was really nice, explained everything to us, what the structure of the interview would go like. She made small talk throughout the interview - and asked questions about where we had been with our photo's etc and genuinely seemed interested in us.

She asked if we had any questions at the end of it, and said it may be up to 2 weeks before we hear anything, but she said she felt like we had everything needed in our case.

5am this morning my status updated to my new card was being produced.

Happy to finally have it all done!

    Hope yours goes well.

    Congrats!

I received the txt notification of interview scheduled 9 days ago but I haven’t received letter as of today, nothing on informed delivery for today. I just called USCIS and an agent told me I would have to wait about a month so they can do something about it. By then we would probably miss the interview. She said that no information is available at this time. What can I do if letter is lost? How long does usually take for it to arrive?

You can call USCIS and ask to speak to a tier 2 officer and they can tell you the date and time of your interview.  That’s what I did, while I was waiting for the letter.

Where did your read about the updated medical policy? We're adjusting from tourist though and not K1 so maybe doesn't work for us.

That makes sense about the citizenship then.

    20181016-I-693Validity.pdf

This is the new info.  Unfortunately I didn’t see it before having my Medical redone.  I’m also adjusting from a tourist visa.  The officer did confirm the two year validity of the medical, but she also still took my new medical...so I’m not 100% sure what would have happened if we hadn’t brought it.  Technically though, you should be fine with the original.

Awesome!! So happy for you guys!! :) That doesn't seem to bad at all. Our appointment is at 8 am and an hour and a half away. We planned to get there about 15 minutes early. Hopefully, that's enough. The letter we got asked for some things that we didn't even send with our initial application. Such a letter from my employeer current rate of pay and hours, which I was just going to take updated pay stubs but now wondering if I need to ask HR for this? Im a salaried employee and pay stubs would show this.

For evidence we plan to take:

Bank statements in both our names

Last home sell document which has both of our names on it

Our new home contract which has both names on it

Loan application for our new home in both our names

Current lease agreement in both our names

Auto, home and health insurance showing both of our names

Forms showing her as the primary beneficiary for myself for all benefits

Pictures from our wedding here and there

    Flight stubs from trips together

    Hoping that's enough

How would you get citizenship before 10-year green card? I thought you applied for those at the same time(3 years after approval of this?)

It sounds like you are taking lots of evidence with you-more than enough I would think.

As for the employment verification letter and pay stubs; we brought those but she didn’t ask for them and when we offered them she said she didn’t need them.  It’s probably more for if you’ve changed jobs and need to show new proof of income.  Otherwise, your tax return will have that information.

I forgot to mention that she also didn’t ask us for an updated medical.  I had gotten mine done before the policy was changed, giving the medical a 2 year validity period instead of the original 1 year.  I asked her if she needed it and she did take it, but I think if I hadn’t brought a new one with me it would have been ok.  She said since I had done it anyway, she would take it, just to have a recent one on file.

The ROC needs to be applied for in 2 years and citizenship in 3, but she said it’s taking 2 years to get the 10 year green card, so the more likely scenario would be that I never actually get that card, just an extension letter and then citizenship.  Who knows what things will be like by then though.

They will explain all that to you at the interview.

Give yourselves lots of time to get to the interview.  If it takes over  an hour to get there,  you still have to go through security and check in and probably use the restroom!

    Congrats!! On the spot!?

Please do! As well as everything you took in, we're going to renew her medical exam this week so hoping we get an approval there and not the wait for our reply.

    Thank you!

We arrived 30 minutes early and waited maybe 10 minutes past our appointment time.  Security and check in went smoothly, with everyone being very friendly and helpful.  As we waited, we observed about 10 other couples getting called in, some called together, others separately.  I got nervous when I saw some couples getting separated but when our turn came we got called in together.

Our officer was very nice and made us feel comfortable.  She asked us to sit and produce our ID’s.  I had to have my photo taken and fingerprints recorded again.  Then she had us stand and take our oath.  She asked us to sit again and asked if we had any questions before we began.  I told her I wanted to verify our address since the interview notice had been sent to our old address.  She checked and found that our address had been updated everywhere except in one place, so she changed it.  Hopefully it’s truly fixed now!

She started by asking my husband (US citizen) his name and date of birth, current place of employment and whether he was born in the States.  Then she asked him how we met and whether he’d been to Canada to visit me.  She asked him when we decided to get married and how he proposed, where we got married and who came to the wedding.  After that, she switched to questioning me, just the same basic questions and when I arrived in the States, had I ever left the country and had I been married before.  She then asked me the Yes No questions from the application (have you ever been involved in drug trafficking, etc).

All her questions were more like a conversation, not adversarial at all.  Once we completed that part, she asked if we had supporting documents.  We had brought A LOT of stuff.  I mean, way more than I saw anyone else bring.  All she asked for specifically was our tax return and bank statements/utility bills.  We also gave her copies of our apartment lease and phone bills.  At that point she stopped us and said she had enough.  It was barely a quarter of what we brought.

Then she asked if we had any photos, which I was happy about because I love our wedding pictures:).  She looked through all our photos, commenting on some of them and when I told her we had more from trips and family events, she looked through all those too.  Didn’t keep any though.

At that point she told us she was recommending us for approval and gave us a letter with the approval box checked off.  She explained that we should keep everything we had brought today since we would need it all again for the ROC application, but that I would likely get citizenship before I got the 10 year green card if I wanted to become a citizen.

We both got teary eyed and she said it was a happy day for us:)

So glad to have it finally done!

  7. Just got our interview date!

Apparently, our change of address did not take effect

    Just got our interview date!

Apparently, our change of address did not take effect that we did online as it still went to our old address and then was forwarded here. Kind of worried about that now.

First of all, congrats on the interview notice!  We have our interview tomorrow and it’s been 18 months since filing as well.

Our notice went to our old address too.  And what’s weird is that after I changed our address online (and mailed in the sponsor change of address form) I called and verified they had the correct address on file.  And I called USCIS a few times after that to ask questions, and every time I called they asked me to give personal information to verify my identify. Including my address!

It makes me wonder if the interview notices are prepared long before they send them, in our case, before we moved (in July).

Anyway, I will bring it up at the interview tomorrow and see if there’s anything else I can do to make sure the green card is sent to the proper address.

  8. Hi,

After 17 months, we finally got our interview scheduled.  I’m adjusting status from a tourist visa, based on marriage to a US citizen.

Needless to say, a lot has changed in the past year and a half.  I’m working now, we’ve moved, my husband got a raise and the updated I-485 form is quite different also.

Do we need to fill out new applications to bring to the interview?  I’m assuming some of the questions we’re asked are going to be based on the information we provided on our old forms.

Has anyone else been in this situation?

Thanks in advance for your help!

As I said though, I think they charged her with manslaughter because that is the case they had at the time. I mean they could make the case for murder, but the question they had to ask is if they could prove murder. As the investigation moves forward, if evidence becomes available that points to more serious charges, I would expect the charges to change.

Evidence that points to more serious charges?

She broke into a man’s home and shot him.  And killed him.

How much more black and white (no pun intended) can you get?

You have been waiting for 16 months!?! AOS through marriage?

I understand USCIS is busy with so many applications,, but why do they need such a long time????? All my friends have gotten their GC through marriage within a year....

Yes, we applied for AOS May 4th, 2017.  And I can’t even make an inquiry for another month since we’re still within “normal” processing time for that office.  It’s been a very long, frustrating wait but at least I’ve been able to work for the last year.

  11. For the I-485, it really depends on your specific field office.  I’ve been waiting for 16 months so far, here in Phoenix.

EAD’s are processed centrally and are currently taking about 6 months.  I got my original EAD in 3 months last year, but recently spoke to a USCIS Representative about my renewal EAD (it’s been 4.5 months since I applied to renew) and was told 6 months is  the norm now.

Just an update on us -

We got our actual AP, whew! Just 20 days before we leave. Not as close as some but enough to make us worried.

Anyone have experience with changing addresses? Can you do it all online?  Turns out we'll be moving next month now as well. Not that we expect any updates but just in case.

I had to change our address also.  You can do it online for the I-485 form but the sponsor also has to complete a form and mail it in.  I think it’s called an I-865.  We got a mailed confirmation letter when we sent in the I-865, but the other confirmations were only made online as case status updates.  So now I’m a little paranoid we might still get the interview letter sent to our old address.  I’m going to call and confirm.

So is this true with school shooting victims being used to push gun control.  Btw, EW was asked to respond regarding the President’s comments that immigration laws need to be stronger and she talked about her visit to the border.  Not really sure her answer was relevant to the question unless she is suggesting more lax immigration laws.  Regardless it is hard to tell since she didn’t really outline her plan.

Yes, of course.  But where I live, it seems news items about school shootings are immediately followed by “Don’t take our guns!” And “Gun control won’t make a difference” refrains.

    Everything ends up being political.

And regarding Elizabeth Warren;  she was asked to react to Mike Pence wanting stricter immigration laws.  Her reply was that the laws needed to focus on those who truly presented a threat.

Did the piece define that they were all American citizens?  I see they used the term "Americans", but considering they got their data from the Census bureau I am not sure if there is definitive citizenship data.

That’s a good point.  But most of the programs mentioned are only available to citizens.
