  1. I know when I looked for my wife's ticket from the Philippines, the one way was a little cheaper than the round trip, but some of the airline sites said there was a charge for not using the return portion of the ticket. With all the new 'fees' the airlines are charging you may want to double check.

I know it sounds stupid to be charged for not using something, but it almost sounds stupid enough to be true!

  2. OK this doesn't make sense to me.

I go through security to get to my flight in the US, maybe twice if I change planes before leaving the US. My plane landed in Japan and I am taking the same plane on to Manila and they make everyone get off while they service the plane for the next leg. I understand that, but WHY do we go straight off the plane into security just so we can go back to the same gate and wait to re-board the plane.

Do they think we have been making bombs or assembling guns on the 12-hour flight there? We have never left a secure area since boarding the plane.

Or do they think we need something to occupy our time while we wait to re-board?

And we got to do the same thing on the return leg from Manila.

    Just bored and wondering . . .

  3. I would say any international airport should be able to handle a K-1 visa holder. The visa has already been processed and all they are checking for is the CFO seminar stamp and you paid your exit/terminal taxes.

I am not completely sure, but I am sure either the airport or the airline could verify this for them.

  4. Did you file as single or as married filing separately? If you both were working and filed as single you could be in trouble with the IRS. If only one of you was working, you should amend your return to married to get the tax advantages.

If you filed married filing separately, just send both transcripts or forms in. They will still show proof of you both residing at the same address.

  5. Update on Kathlene's app. Got the letter yesterday!

    Now that looks better!

(for some reason it would not let me edit.)

  6. I was thinking of printing the pictures of me and my wife on letter size paper with a caption beneath each one, two or three per page. Since most pics are digital now, why print them separate then tape or glue to each page?

I thought it would be very easy for them to review if they are printed on regular size paper and have them top punched so it will just go right into the file.

Just thought it would look cleaner and be much less of a hassle for them to deal with.

  7. You will just need to keep records of income and expenses, then file a Schedule C - Income from business when you file taxes.

One good thing there will be LOTS of things you can deduct, but you will only be able to claim the profit as income, not your net.

i.e. You do $3,000.00 a year in business, but your business expenses/deductions are $2,750.00, your profit is only $250.00 and that is what they will consider.

I know because I was self-employed when I filed for my wife and they would only look at my profit, not my gross income.

  9. I was thinking about trying to find a satellite internet service for my in-laws. Unless it is extremely expensive we could get them a computer and web-cam and save enough on international calling and texts to pay for the service.

There are no land lines near my in-laws home and the wireless internet some cell companies provide doesn't reach there either.

Plus if we could get them internet service, they could start a little internet cafe as well to make some extra!
