  1. I am wanting to get my wife a new Bible as a gift, right now she only has an old Gideon's New Testament that she brought with her. With so many different translations, I am unsure what to get.

The version she has now is a New King James, but I think a more modern version would help her understand. I have a New International Version which I think is pretty easy to understand.

She wants to keep improving her English, so that is why I want to get her an English version instead of Tagalog or Visayan.

So if you have any suggestions or want to let me know what version you have please let me know.

    Thanks!

  2. But be careful buying a round-trip and only using the first half, some airlines are now charging a fee for NOT using the second half!

(of course I now hear they are charging extra if you want to sit on the INSIDE of the plane! :P )

  3. Again, no theological discussion, but most of the people in Kentucky who call themselves Christians are of the Protestant belief that the Christian view of salvation is through belief in Jesus. (Southern Baptist, Church of Christ, etc.)

So as most of the people in this thread said before, just more hype to get votes.

  4. The only problem I see is the fact he also says he disagrees with one of the main tenants of Christianity, that you have to accept Jesus to get to heaven.

He is on record saying his mother did not believe in God, but she is in heaven because she is a 'good person'

I am not preaching here, but if you are going to wear the label, you need to follow the rules, be it Hinduism, Buddhism, or Muslim

  5. I would check with the embassy about getting an extension. My wife had to have the sputum test and missed her first interview. Once she was cleared and had her interview, her visa expired six months from her medical, not her interview, so I would definitely check what is the proper procedure.

  6. My wife came through Detroit on November 4th, 2007 and she did not have any problems, she bought a document tube to put the x-ray in and kept it with her.

Kathlene flew from Detroit to Nashville and I picked her up there and we spent the night in Nashville and drove back to Paducah the next day, it's only a 2 hour drive or so.

So you are coming to Paducah! We will have to get together once you are here as we live in Paducah!

  7. I am asking this for a friend of mine, his fiancée was in a brief marriage 10 years ago and the man walked out after a couple of months and has not been heard from since. She never got an annulment due to the cost and never thought she would marry again. In fact, she was not sure if the marriage was ever filed.

He started the petition and now she has to get an annulment or her lawyer said the husband could be declared dead since no one knows how to contact him or have heard from him in several years.

So, is the current petition now trash since she was not legally available to marry?

Should he just withdraw the petition and wait until everything is done and start new?

    Thanks for everyone's advice!

  8. One thing I found out when I filed last year with my wife's W7. I could not cash the refund check until she got here! My bank said since she wasn't on my account, she had to be present to sign the check, and they wouldn't add her to my accounts until she was here in the US.

So I had to keep my refund check in the safe for six months until Kathlene got her visa!

(Yes, I did try direct deposit and the bank's computer kicked it out for the same reasons)

  9. They do not do the skin test because there is a TB vaccine that can cause a false positive, so I guess that answers your second question as well, the test is not 100% accurate.

Do not worry, my wife had to take the sputum test because of her x-ray as well and they let her know at the end of the testing she should have nothing to worry about, but they still had to wait for the culture results to be sure. Just make sure you have plenty of time before your interview for the results to come in.

  10. OK, some good news!

He has finally gotten all his tax info and the co-sponsor has their papers as well.

He signed the papers and she gave them to a friend for her to mail today. She went to church with us last night and she asked us to stop so she could pick up a newspaper because he wanted to see the want ads. He seems to be doing better and maybe he has gotten over being laid off and is ready to start looking for a new job.

  11. You could not read my wife's BC either, but they re-typed all the info on the paper that stated it was a true copy and she had no trouble at the embassy.

So if the info is attached and certified, I don't think there will be any problems, but we all know each interviewer is different and what one will accept, another will question . . .

Isn't it wonderful having your future in the hands of one person who just might be having a bad day!

  12. The wife should get an INFOPASS appointment to speak with a INS representative. She should bring medical papers detailing and showing that her husband has bi-polar problem. Then she should explain because her husband is mentally unstable, she can not rely on him to file papers.

Maybe she could get some special waiver.

I will talk to her about that, the biggest problem I see is her getting to an office for her appointment, I don't know where the closest office is to western kentucky, but I am sure it will be several hours drive (or longer bus ride) away.

She has thought about just going back home, but she worries about her husband because she does love him, just is so confused about him being sick.

  13. One of my wife's friends has been in the US about two years, came here on a K-1 visa and they got married, but her husband has never filed ANY paperwork. He lost his job and has been diagnosed as bi-polar, so he has not tried to find a job and spends most of his time alone upstairs.

They survive on help from his family and she cleans houses and babysits, but she cannot get a job because she doesn't have a SSN. There are a couple of places willing to hire her as soon as she gets her SSN.

The husband will not take his medication or go back to the doctor, so she does not know what to do from here. I have been told that failure to file the papers can be considered as abuse and she could try and go that way to get her status adjusted. She is trying to find a co-sponsor as well from her family that lives in the US as well.

The husband keeps saying he is going to sign the papers so she can turn in the affidavit of support and then try for a co-sponsor, but never has.

    Any advice would be appreciated.

  14. One thing to consider, if you get your spouse an ITIN and file your taxes, you may not be able to cash your refund check until your spouse is here.

I tried to do electronic deposit for our refund and our bank rejected it because my wife's name was not on the account and they would not cash the paper check until she was here in person to show proof I was not trying to steal her money!

Your bank may not do that but my big, huge US bank did that, so I had a large check I had to keep in the safe for six months.

  15. My wife arrived November 4 on her CR-1 visa, she has her SSN, but still no green card. Could this just be due to the holidays and should we just keep waiting for a few more weeks?

She already has work and the employer accepted her stamped passport, so we are not in any hurry, but I would like her to have her card soon so we can put the passport in the safe and not worry about it getting lost or stolen for when we want to go back to the Philippines this fall.

  16. At approximately 2:30pm Sunday afternoon, I watched my gwapa asawa walk out of security at Nashville airport! We spent the night in Nashville and returned home to Kentucky yesterday afternoon!

Sometime I just can't believe she is finally here! Pray for us as we start our lives together and pray for Kathlene as she adjusts to life here and deals with the homesickness of being so far away from her family.
