So a long time lurker of the board! Finally decided to chime in on this thread. You can get global Entry if you have a valid Green Card(machine readable) at the time of interview. They need it to scan into the system.

However, if you have a 751 extension or a 551 stamp in your passport, you would not be able to use the kiosk(again needs machine readable valid GC). You can however go to the line (for the folks who get a X from the kiosk) and agent will manually process you. Speaking from personal experience.

    Thanks for the insight!

So it sounds like from the several anecdotes that this particular officer was possibly misinformed? I wonder if it's worth going to another interview to try again. I'll make an appointment- guess it can't hurt.

One of the perks of Global Entry is TSA PreCheck. Just so you know, if you buy tickets using your Known Traveler Number with your wife traveling with you, she may get TSA PreCheck on her tickets also. Note: this is only for TSA PreCheck and not Global Entry. This happened multiple times with me and my wife. She loves not having to go through the normal security screenings.

Again, this may or may not happen to you but my wife and I have been successful with TSA PreCheck.

Yes! I have GE/Precheck, and this happens 100% of the time my wife and I are on the same reservation. It's very helpful.

I imagine its because the GE card is valid for 5 years, and as the GC is only valid for 2, they will not issue it.. if it was based on citizenship.. ie her national Passport.. that would be ok as it is technically ongoing. Just my thoughts...

Yeah - I thought this might be the case - the 2 years / 5 years discrepancy wouldn't be compatible. Just found it odd that it is not mentioned anywhere on the CBP site. She has a machine readable Green Card and all that, just valid for only 2 years.

Thanks (and hope this helps someone on Google with the same question someday :))

  4. Had a strange experience with my wife's Global Entry interview.

My wife arrived in the US on CR-1 in December and we recently received her conditional green card. It expires in 2 years from her date of entry. Yesterday, we went to EWR for her Global Entry interview. The officer said that since she is a conditional permanent resident, she can't get Global Entry. The application will stay open and she can come back for an interview when she gets the non-conditional green card (in about 2 years from now...). I looked for hours to try to find something regarding this but can't come up with anything - all the posts I see say there's no problem getting GE with a conditional green card.

Has anyone else had this same issue? Is this something new?

    Alright.
    That clears up some confusion.
I am just wondering why they would RFE some people and not others.
Also if they dont require the BC at the initial i-130 petition they should put it into the official verbiage via a comprehensive I-130 instructional PDF.

We got an RFE for beneficiary's birth certificate, with no red flags or anything out of the ordinary - I have a feeling it's just up to the mood of the officer that looks at your case. Seems like it can't hurt to include it though - so it's good advice for anyone starting this process to add it to their packet.

So after almost 8 months of waiting our NAO1 finally got approved.

My husband called earlier and asked to speak with a Tier 2 supervisor. They returned the call about 2 hours later and said we had been approved today and they will be sending the letter of approval in the mail :)

So happy!! Finally on to the NVC :)

    Congratulations!! Finally!!

another proof what a joke organization USCIS is ... issuing RFE's for something they dont require ... wasting our time and including their own

I wonder if this is one dumb case worker doing this ?

Question ... did you had the beneficiary's date of birth on the marriage certificate or any other document you submitted ?

We submitted her passport, which has the DOB. Also the marriage cert has DOB as well, for both of us.

This is ridiculous. They don't even ask for birth certificates in the I-130 checklist. Good news is your approval is a couple of weeks away! Was your marriage certificate produced in the US?

Marriage cert is from Japan. Excited for an approval ASAP!

  8. Hi all, this morning I noticed the new "official" processing times for TSC and called USCIS asking for status on our case (Priority date Jan 9). The rep was very pleasant and said Texas is currently processing May 31 2017. She opened a service request for our case since it was outside of normal processing times, and it would take 15-30 days for them to look into it.

I'm pretty sure that date on the official site is a copy paste error- the permanent resident date (Jan 2) is probably the real one. But give it a shot, can't hurt to check.
