Well we are both in the US but things are not going so well. Shortly after my hubby got here I lost my job and I'm still looking for another so we are on 1 income right now. We do have Canadian debt and have every intent on paying for it however we just don't have enough money right now to pay bills in 2 countries. I've been trying to work out payments with our Canadian debts so we don't have to pay so much but today I received a demand letter from a barrister in Canada demanding payment in 7 days or they will take legal action against us. I didn't know to laugh or cry as we just don't have thousands laying around here. I've offered them a settlement with payments but I'm afraid they won't accept it. I just don't know what to do! Can they get judgements in the US for Canadian debt? Will that cause my huband to be deported? I'm a mess right now because I hate being in financial trouble but right now we are and no where to turn. Anyone have suggestions or stories?

My husband when he got his license they had his sign a voters card i then said he wasn't elgible but i'm not sure if they sent it in or not. I have not found him on the website you can check in IL to see if you are registered but how do you know? He just signed it because they told him to. We are not ready for the N-400 but what now?

My husband crossed at Pembina on May 31st. We are IR-1 so no EAD stamp for us but there is one guy there that usually does the visa and he is the head of immigration for that port and knows what he is doing. My huband was there with U-haul of ####### and his passport and the brown secret packet and was there 1/2 hour. Good luck with your crossing!!!

This is great new Darryl! Have a safe move!

Yes we watched it and it was really good. My hubby is a truck driver and wouldn't dream of doing the ice roads!
-
Congrats Matt! I'm glad to hear you got approved!!!
-
Sorry to hear this Colin! Geez this is really a stupid thing for you and Darryl!! I really hope this gets settled for you real soon.

My husband ran Winnipeg Chicago twice weekly. What I also did is I had friends and my parents write letters too stating that we were together those two times a week. I also kept dinner receipts and stuff like that. Didn't realize there was that many of us Trucker's Wives!

I'm sooooo sorry to hear that Darryl!!!
That was my biggest fear was domicle that is why i went to the US first and found a job and used my dad as a co-sponser. I was so fearful of that happening.
I truely hope that they approve you on assets and that this will finally come to an end for you!!! I wish you all the best and let us know what happens!!!

My husband interview was Tue May 22nd and visa in hand Monday May 28th.

I was in the same boat as you. My husband being Canadian and a crossborder truck driver. I wrote a long note saying that hubby (at time finacee) had a dedicated run and ran to where i live twice a week for company ABC crossing at the port of Pembina/Emerson and gave them his truck number. I then explained that between dropping a load and picking up the next load we went on "dates". Even though this was for immigrating to Canada they did except my long letter explaing a truckers life. Giving copies of his log books might not be a bad idea either and they do have ways of finding out if those crossing are correct.

I (USC) did immigrate to Canada it 2003/04 and lived there 3 1/2 years. We decided it was time to move to the US because there is more here for us in the job market and my mom has been very sick and it has gotten worse since Nov 06. My husband's family was not the best to be around either making me completely crazy most of the time. While I enjoyed my time in Canada and will never regret the time I spent there I don't think I would ever want to go back...unless we chose a difference province.

Great news!! Congrats!!!

My husband had his interview the 22nd and his passport was sent out Friday the 25th and showed up Friday night. Nothing since though. Hopefully yours was sent out Friday too and just hasn't hit the system yet. Good luck!!!!

Hi Darryl we filed in the PDF version and printed it out. I got the same kind in packet 3 but thought it would be better to do the PDF one. No problems with I864 at all

From what my hubby said this is how the interview went. He lined up at 7:45am and got in to security a little after 8. Not many problems there just took his car keys because of the remote keyless entry on it. Went up to the 19th floor and went to the window to hand in docs and pay his fee. Was called into the interview shortly after that. He was asked 3 questions and was on his way back out. He was out by 9:15am all done.
He did not say he got anything from them but I don't think there is anything else for us to do since we are IR-1 except cross the border right? He was told he should have his visa within a week.
I'm already here in the US and he is plannin on coming the first week of June. Now it is going to be waiting for the green card and SSN now....

Well my husband was approved today!!!! I can't believe this is finally over. My husband said the interview was a joke and that they were happy he was so organized for the interview. The guy who interview him even welcomed him when he walk in with "hey fellow American". So it is finally done and it feels so good. Good luck to all of you coming up real soon!!!!

Well my husband just called me and he was approved!!!! He said the interview was a joke. He was greeted by the interviewer as "hey fellow American" so he knew it was going to go well from there. He was asked 3 questions...How did we meet, Why he wanted to come to the US, and What he will do for a living in the US and he was out by 9am. I'm so happy he will be here soon now. I feel like we can finally get on with our lives.

Great new Matt! I'm very happy for you!!!! Congrats

Well after fighting for weeks with Montreal we finally got our interview letter today. So now we are ready as we can be for the interview next week
-
Congrats! I'm happy for you.

Well I called again today and was told the same thing. It was mailed 4/10 and they don't know why i don't have it. No they won't fax it or anything and that we don't need it to get into the interview as long as he has his passport and medical done. Then they got nasty and said i email them too much...only maybe every 3-4 weeks...don't think that is alot. So after the phone call I emailed them to see if they would email me the letter....hopefully didn't piss them off to bad with that but if we wouldn't have called or emailed them we wouldn't even know we have an interview.

Does anyone know if you HAVE to have your interview letter with you at the time of your interview? We have been waiting a month for ours to come in the mail and i'm stressing that we are not going to have it in time

No the debt is from our Credit Union for a loan and a car we had to leave behind. I'm going to send a letter with an offer of settlement and payment and hopefully they will take it. We were hoping they would give us a little more time to get on our feet before demanding money.
