Here is the article. If you watch the video they talk a bit about it. I'm in a group that was talking about it and saying that you always put your immigration status on tax forms. As far as I knew unless you are doing FBAR or have property etc why would you need to put your immigration status on taxes. All we have been doing is putting SSN on the taxes and giving money since we have nothing in my husband's country of origin.

  2. I hope both you and Magic kitty get well soon!!! I love my kitties so much and I know how heart breaking it is when they get sick. Sending you both warm wishes that you get well soon.

  3. I have applied for an extension twice. However I was going through Canadian immigration at the time so had a good reason to ask for the extension. I will answer some of your questions on what I went through and what some people I know who also applied.

    1. I've looked into filing an extension on the visitor visa and the process seems VERY easy. I just don't know if i'm required to do so at this point? I would just like to have some more time to figure out where and when we would like to get married.

It is easy if you have a good reason. I don't think they will take that you don't know where you want to live as a good enough reason. I've seen people denied who had intent to send in immigration paperwork but took too long. So you will need a good reason to stay.

    2. lso noticed on the Visitor Visa Extension form there is an area that asks how much longer I'm requesting to stay for.... what is the longest I can ask for!?

In Canada it is commonly called a Visitor Visa but it is actually not a visa but an extension. You can ask for a year but it is very rare that they give a year. I got a year on my second request and got my residency 6 weeks later....I think that was their version of a joke. The common time they give is 6 months. This also in no way will get you back into Canada if you leave the country.

    3. It also asks what my reasons are for extending... are there any reasons that would make them reject the extension?

Again you need a good reason for this. Yes they can reject it and will if they think for any reason you don't intend to go home or if you are not

going to start the immigration process.

    4. Also asking how much money I have access to.... what is required???

Yes this is required because they want to know 1. can you support yourself if they allow you to stay in Canada for a longer period. 2. If they do deny your request they want to know you have the money to leave the country ASAP.

I hope this helps a bit. It has been a few years since i've applied for an extension but this is what I went through. I was a member of a Canadian Immigration group and saw a lot of people denied extensions and I saw a lot of people approved.

  4. We were told the same thing from an attorney....to just "visit" the US and "decide" we just couldn't leave once we got here. However we too just sold our house and thought there is no way that is going to fly and didn't want to take the chance of things not working out. We DCF and it took around 9 months even with the Adam Walsh Act which stopped everything for a few weeks. Personally I couldn't take the chance of USCIS believing my intent.

  5. I'm rereading the Outlander series since the next book is due out the end of this year. I also have read the Twilight series to see what all they hype was about too. I read about 3 books a week so I don't have the room to list all my favorites on here...LOL. However for all of you who like to read books in order by series or like to see what author has written this website is pretty awsome for all of that.

  6. Lots of good ideas! This is what i have so far ready

    Tax returns

    Joint bank account

    Cable bill

    Cell phone bill

    Apartment lease

We adopted a cat together and have a contract in both names

Medical bills from our insurance co showing i'm on his medical through his job

Hopefully that will be enough. That is pretty much our whole life of stuff since we moved here. I also have stuff from when we lived in Canada too like our papers showing we sold a house, owned a car there, etc. Its like going through immigration all over again with the proof of marriage! I will be glad once he is a citizen and that all will be in the past!

  7. Thanks for some ideas. I did add my husband to our cable bill. We also have cards from our parents for our wedding anniversaries and stuff like that. We don't want children so that is out of the question. He is a listed driver on the car insurance but since i'm the only owner it is not joint. I'm trying to think of some other stuff but we just don't have alot. I have a year to get ####### together so I just want to start a stock pile...lol.

  8. My husband will be eligible to file for citizenship about this time next year. I know you need to send documents that you have things together. Well we don't have much (owned stuff) We have a lease with both names on it, joint bank account, and of course our taxes are filed together. We have one credit card but i'm only a signer so it only comes in his name. No utilities in our names and our car payment is only in my name. Will this be a problem that we only have a few things in our joint names? We just don't have much and I don't want to create bills just to have things in our joint name.

  9. My big word that i laughed about with my Canadian husband is he says decal as deckal. I told him he could not call it that down here or no one would know what he was talking about.

This is a funny thread because it is all things we have talked about!

  10. Unfortunately not all the Illinois Canadians are female. My husband is the Canadian and I lived there with him for over 3 years. If there is ever a couples get together then I guess we would be up for that.

  11. I'm up for the meeting but Sept 2nd is no good for us. I go to school full time and my canadian hubby is a truck driver and is gone on Tues. How about a Fri or Sat night???? or even morning?????

  12. My husband didn't enter the US until he was 38. We sent a form that you can print off from the selective service website in along with a copy of his passport page showing his entry date and they sent us back a nice letter stating that since he was over 26 when he entered the US he is not required to register. We are using this letter for school loans. So if you take up residence after you are 26 you do not register

  13. I know exactly how you are feeling right now. I lost my furbaby, Cookie, on Sept 12, 2007. I brought her with me to the US when I left Canada to move back home to the US. She was my first pet and I loved that cat with all my heart. I know what you mean about having a special bond with a cat. Unfortunately Cookie got very sick and I finally had to have her put to sleep. I thought my world came to an end that day. Even reading your post and typing this is making me sob because it is still hard even though it has been 5 months since she has gone.

I do have another cat, Muffin, in the house and for days Muffin searched the house for Cookie. I had Cookie's favorite blanket that she slept on creamated with her. I did remove Cookie's toys except one that Muffin would not let me have and I put one of Cookie's favorite toys into a keepsake box. I also took a bunch of pictures of Cookie and put them in one of those frames where you can have multi pictures in it and I have it by my bed. I have adopted another kitten now that we have named Bobo and that has really helped Muffin along since she has someone with her again.

Hang in there and my thoughts are with you

  14. We filed DCF as well. You will be getting packet 3 very soon. Packet 3 will contain what you need to get ready for your interview such as your background check and docs such as marriage license, birth certs etc. Then you wait and wait and wait depending how backed up Montreal is now for packet 4 which will give you your interview date and instructions on the medical. If you are approved at the interview you will get your visa mailed to you. I believe you said you were IR1 like us so once you cross that border you will have a 10 year green card and be done for awhile.

As for a change of address we too had one and I emailed Montreal about how they wanted us to notify them and they had me send the change by e-mail. So I would find out from them how they want you to do it. It might simply be an e-mail as ours was
