Hello everyone,
I am posting to share some of my current thought process to see if anyone is in a similar situation and have advices.
I am a french citizen and my fiance and I filed for our K1 visa. Our petition was approved and I was supposed to have my interview in march and then may but both got cancelled because of the coronavirus crisis. It is now rescheduled for July 1st but until I am in the office interviewing I am thinking it might be cancelled again depending on the coronavirus situation, travel ban, EO etc.
My fiance and I are facing a dilemma because the more the situation is lasting, uncertainty of when I will be able to move, and then potential back logs to have a green card and work, the more we are thinking maybe it is not the best option for us to settle in the US right now. Given the recents events in the States I have to admit it feels a little scary to me to move.
Also, I am pregnant so dealing with the uncertainty of all of this plus where I will deliver is adding more stress. It is also adding a deadline on until when I can flight as airlines have their own restrictions for pregnant women. So we are now starting considering settling in France instead so I can have some peace of mind to finish this pregnancy and deliver at home BUT because I was supposed to go to USA in March I am now unemployed, I do not have my own place anymore (staying with family) and chances to have a job while pregnant are very slim. My fiance do not speak french so he will not be able to find a job right away. Our financial situation should be ok thanks to family support but still far from idea until I find a new job after my pregnancy.
So I wonder if some of you are in a similar situation meaning hesitating and considering changing plan and settling in the other partner country because of all the delays on visa ? Or if you have any advices as an external viewer even though you are not going through something similar.
I do not entend this post to start a polemic whatsoever I am just seeking for external opinions as I feel me and my fiance are pretty biased and kinda emotional about the situation as it is bringing us quite a lot of stress.
Thank you for your help!
Bon courage :(

Hello,
I had this account for a previous relationship in 2017 (K1 Visa), it didn't work out.
I met my current gf for more than a year now and we are thinking of getting married (so a new K1 lol). Do I have to create a new account for having a new timeline?
thanks

And what a glorious 2 months that will be!! the waiting is never easy, but something my Fiance says so often is "The juice is worth the squeeze"!
bought the tickets in the morning: 12th July to 30th August in San Francisco !!
I've already checked but still worried lol, I won't get in troubles at the customs because I started a K1 right ?

the Petition is valid for 4 months. You can request an additional 4 month extension. That should get you at least 6-7 months. Then, have the interview, and get the approval (thinking positive) and that is valid for another 4 (maybe 6?) months. That puts you right at 11-12 months. You may be able to request a 2nd extension if needed. Wait for the medical until closer to the actual interview because those are only good for 6 months. You shouldn't need to reapply if you do that. I hope it all goes well for you!!
thank you !
the only good thing in the story is that I see her for around 2 months in mid-July

Hi,
I have a very bad news. I have to cancel the K1 for at least one year because it doesn't fit with her school/family ...
I have already paid for the interview and just canceled it right now, I wanted to know If it's "unlimited" (schedule the interview in like next march) or in 3 months it will expire ?
Thanks guys , I hope it will never happen to you

Did you already get you medical exam ? If yes, have you had X-ray chest and blood work ?
No, the medical exam is the 28th June
That's why I am worried I still don't have their "convocation letter" even if I paid the fees for the interview

Do not worry about it ! You are good to go for interview .
let me know please when you get the letter or email for the interview .
mine, I had it by email , they sent me the date and the list of the documents I had to bring with me ( like the medical ones ) .
I guess you will have the same thing as well
Ok so yesterday I scheduled my interview for the 5th July and paid 252€ , so now should I get a mail (not email) for the medical exam?

What did you choose when you registered on the website and it gave you different options (like "I received a letter from the embassy / I need to schedule an appointment....") ?
One of these options is about the K1, it's this one that you have to choose. I think it's something like "I applied for a K1 visa, I submitted the application of readiness and I need to schedule an interview"
I clicked on the link where it was written "I applied for a K Visa and I have to schedule an interview" (something like this)

Do not panic ! You are almost there !
just check every thing again and click on any link you see .
i remember that I had to check like 10 times then I decided to not get nervous and follow the process .you do have to pay before you go for the interview , if you do not, that's not an issue because you can do that once you are at the embassy .
bonne chance !
Ahah thanks ! Just finished the DS-160 this afternoon (totally forgot to do it!)
On the website I don't find a link to pay the fees ?
Merci

DS-160 is to be completed by the foreign beneficiary.
The form has a SSN field because some foreigners might have gotten one while on a J1 or other type of eligible visa previously. In those cases, these people would have to fill it in. And since you never obtained a SSN before then of course the field can be skipped.
For phone numbers, the field only allow numbers so all you can do is to drop the + sign. You're dealing with the local embassy where you live and the people there will know that the country code is +33 even if there's no + sign inserted.
Good luck with your K-1 interview!
Thank you very much

Hi @XavierFR,
Yes, you have to fill the DS-160 before, but the reason why all the days are in grey for now is just because the embassy don't have days for appointment yet. My interview is going to take place in Paris too, and I can't pay the fee or register an appointment until they open new "interview days".
It's a week now that I am waiting for taking an appointment, I hope I will be able to do it this week !
Ah ok thanks ! The girl at the medical center told me it's by sessions and it should be the 5th July.
For the DS-160, is it my french informations I have to fill ? (Want to be sure)
And does it take time for the US to approve this document ?
-
Hi,
Silly question but I am stucked, is it the american citizen who fills the DS-160 or the foreign citizen(french in my case) ?
Because it's weird they ask the social security number (which I can skip), the phone numbers can't have the (+33), etc but also they ask the citizenship so I don't know
I am pretty sure it's the foreign citizen but I prefer to ask to don't fail my application
Thank you

It is the letter that says that you have to do to the medical appointment . It has a document that the doctor will fill out for you .
does the email have an attached document ( PDF ?
Oh God... I think the issue is that I forgot to fill the DS-160, gonna do it today

The letter from the Embassy is an "AUTOMATICALLY GENERATED MESSAGE" containing only a text :
" [...] We are pleased to inform you that we have received an approved petition in support of your immigrant visa application.
To prepare for your interview, please visit our website at https://fr.usembassy.gov/visas/immigrant-visas/. See the section “How to Apply,” where you will find detailed, step-by-step instructions. Failure to carefully follow these instructions could result in delays in the processing of your application. [...]"
I don't have a pdf file attached, I only got a PDF about the vaccinations and some explanations that the Dr sent me after the reservation.
I am getting so worried right now
On https://ais.usvisa-info.com/ I have this
When I try to schedule an appointment, I can't because each day is like grey even in 2 years
Maybe I have to wait the document delivery first ?

I had my medical in Montreal and the first thing they asked for was the email that confirmed the scheduled date of my interview appointment - I printed it, it also had the confirmation of my payment. I would guess it's the same thing?
Ok nice! However I didn't have to pay yet for the interview registration ? It will be the day of the interview
Maybe I didn't have to pay because I cannot select a day for now?

Hi,
I reserved an appointment for the medical exam in Paris (28th June), they sent me an email, however they ask me to bring the "convocation letter", what is this ?
I mean, yesterday my fiancée got in her emails a letter for me (lol) from the french embassy (giving links to prepare the interview and the case number), is it this letter ?
Thank you

I'm confused because I seen someone post in a forum that the k1 visa joint sponsor is supposed to fill out the 864 instead of the I-134
Ah I thought the I-134 was for the interview (just to show to person at the embassy) and the 864 was for later , more official and intended for the US Government

as the petitioner, your fiancé must file an i134 as well, her mom is her joint sponsor
you are the beneficiary
Ok thank you, so I write my own address on the paper, and for relationship, her mom has to write "Son in Law" ?
Am I the only one in this situation ?

Don't hesitate to PACS if you want for your hubby to stay in France. I've heard Philippe saying they might consider to open the borders starting June 15th, My fiancée doesn't have a super good French neither for working in France so I have looked for some alternatives in the past: Paris you have a lot of English workers at la Défense, you also have Luxembourg where you can speak French or English, it's next to Metz and Nancy if you have to move (plus you make a lot of money in this area )
