I got my interview letter and I'm scheduled on Dec 13th at 10AM.

Does anybody know the likelihood of the same day oath ceremony since the interview is later in the morning?

I'm trying to figure out if I need childcare for my kids that day etc..

What time is your interview exactly? Oath ceremony is at 01:30PM, so I think your chances of making it are pretty much guaranteed as long as your interview is, as you say, "in the morning". If you're planning childcare etc, assume oath ceremony will finish between 3 - 3:30 PM

     Good luck!

Thank you for the answer! What you are saying is really encouraging.
    Guys I have 2 questions:
I got married this summer. My wife was single/never married before. I have the marriage certificate for this marriage. Do I need to bring anything else regarding this marriage?

I had a misdemeanor citation in 2012, which is now outside the 5-year statutory period. I provided a certified copy of the court records showing I paid the fee and finished the probation/education period. Do I need to bring anything else for this citation?

Re: Marriage: I assume you're filing on the grounds of 5+ year GC; did you file as married, or single and then married? If you married after filing your N400, I could see that causing some paperwork issues but I don't have firsthand experiences. You may want to assemble a "backup" package with marriage supporting documentation - joint bank accounts, tax filing, plane tickets for vacations etc - I don't expect they'd care, but consider it stacking your deck.

Same re: misdemeanor: No firsthand experiences, but get all available documentation, photocopy it, slap it in a separate folder and have it ready if they ask. Stack the deck :D

I hope the approval and oath process won't as painfully long as this wait was......
Do you guys know if they are doing same-day oath ceremonies? My interview is at 8:00 AM, so, I am hoping maybe, just maybe, I can qualify for same-day oath.
Are there any special rules to have the same-day oath?

    Hi Journey,

When I was interviewing, I was told same-day oath ceremonies are not only available but norm; I had some paperwork issues so it didn't work out for me but if your interview goes well, I suspect what'll happen is they'll kick you out and tell you to come back around 1PM for the 1:30PM Oath Ceremony same day. If you're back for the oath same day, I recommend you be there by 1 - security line will get crazy-ish. Then you'll wait 'till about 2 for ceremony to start and by 3:30-4 PM you'll be drinking your first beer as an American :)

CONGRATULATIONS!!!!!  And thank you for sharing your experience with us!

I have a question about your comment above.  Were there people that did not have a green card to surrender?  My husband's green card is lost and we don't plan to replace it since the citizenship interview is so close.  I've read posts that say you must replace the green card and other posts have said that they just make you sign a letter swearing that you lost it.  Clearly, we are hoping for this last option.  Do you know?

To be honest, I didn't notice any. One gentleman had problems and got diverted to an interview room because he apparently managed to get married 2 days before oath ceremony, but I didn't hear of any discussions about missing green cards. I think InfoPass is the best place to ask what to do, assuming you don't have a lawyer.

  5. Hello everyone,

I've had my oath ceremony yesterday, meaning my journey is over - I'm officially an US citizen. I'll still hang around here for a while, assuming there may be questions I can answer to help others and hoping I'll see all of you become citizens soon as well.

Here's a brief outline of how naturalization ceremony works at Denver office:

    • Scheduling : Your letter will (likely) say ceremony is at 1:30PM. I recommend you show up no later than 1, as you'll need to go through the "airport-level" security to get in, and there'll be a lot more people in line than when you showed up for your interviews, because of all the friends and family etc.
    • Entry : There was a pretty long queue for the entrance and security - I'd estimate it took me about 15 min to get past security. The guard wanted to see my ceremony letter, driver's license and green card. Security is the usual "shoes, belts, metal off" thing, so keep that in mind when choosing your wardrobe and other things you bring with you.
    • After security, everyone - both citizens-to-be and friends and family - gets sent up to 2nd floor; you'll likely sit around there for a while, after you show another guard your oath ceremony letter, that is.
    • Around 1:30 they started sending citizens-to-be (no friends and family) upstairs to third floor; there you'll surrender your Green Card (if you have one) and your letter, will be given a small package of flyers, booklets and US flag, and will be assigned a seat. The order in which seats are assigned corresponds to order in which people are called for the ceremony, so don't change your seats - lady in charge gets quite grumpy if you do that.
    • Around 2 - or when all the citizens-to-be are in their seats - they'll let in the friends and family and start the ceremony.
    • Ceremony itself took ~30-45 min; there are a couple of videos to watch, mixed with oath of allegiance and pledge of allegiance (to the flag), and presentation of certificates of naturalization.

I hope this is helpful and informative; I'm estimating there were ~60-80 people in my ceremony.

    How did your interview go?

    Hey everyone.

Yesterday's interview was a mixed bag. I aced the quiz, answered all the officer's questions satisfyingly, but then he got hung up on a missing piece of documentation - both my lawyer and I reviewed the copy of package that was mailed in, and the document was in there, so USCIS must've misplaced it. Nevertheless, official word is "You have 30 days to provide us the missing documentation, then we'll make the decision." So we fedexed it in today.

Honestly, I wasn't ready for that kind of complication, so it upsetme a bit more than it should've...

If it is possible estimate at all based on such a small sampling, I should get interview notification by the end of this month, God willing.

Yeah, statistical sample we're dealing with for Denver office has always been frustrating - it's so small we could all be outliers for all we know :) Good luck to both of you, @MyJourney & @satson5541 - I'll let you know how my interview goes in... 10 days. Totally not nervous or anything.

Really? Americans wear that stuff all the time to show how patriotic they are!

Of course they do. And if you look up US Flag code you'll discover there are no legal penalties for breaking it - it is really just a set of guidelines.

But I don't think I need to tell you that there's a profound and fundamental difference between an American and someone who's trying to get visa, green card or citizenship. The first one doesn't have to pass any scrutiny, judgement or interviews. The other one, on the other hand, should really do everything possible to stack the deck in their favor, even in minutiae such as not appearing disrespectful to the US flag, regardless of intent.

  9. Evening everyone.

I just had a "2 weeks before" prep meeting with my lawyer; it was all routine stuff but he did mention something I thought y'all may like to know:

According to my lawyer, Denver USCIS office is again doing same-day oath ceremonies. I am told that it is very possible that, following my morning interview, I may be instructed to stay for the 1:30PM oath ceremony that same day.

Sounds like a plan to me :)

Today marks the 6th month since the USCIS receipt of my case. Not progress since my case became "in line for an interview" in February 21st...

    Hi Journey,

I'm a December filler, and I just transitioned from "In Line for Interview" to appointment letter last week, with interview date of mid-August. Before that, from mid-January to early July it was absolutely stone dead silent.

As your sig says, "Relax, it's not a race." - you seem to be almost exactly a month behind me, so if the processing continues at this pace you will hopefully get interview letter in the next 4 weeks or so. Good luck!

Hey MyJourney, I just noticed Bluerose's status change last night and was putting together the update - thanks for the input. We need all the info we can get our hands on, so there's really no such thing as being nosy :)

  12. Hello everyone,

sorry for the lack of updates - there's been no progress on any of the cases until very recently, so nothing to update, alas. However, here's the latest version of the data:

Note Bluerose001, who filed on November 12th 2016, has been scheduled for the interview ~3 weeks from now; that seems like a very good sign that things may finally be moving at the Denver office (especially since lack of August-October reported filers makes it hard for us to tell what's going on). So, huge congratulations to Bluerose, and let's hope Colorado2016 and December filers see some of this progress soon as well.

We may not be citizens, but, YES, we are taxpayers, I think the rights non-citizen taxpayers should not be compromised due to budgetary issues or political agendas.

You're preaching to the choir, my friend. I don't think -any- of us would disagree with you. What's particularly annoying is that Denver really seems to be getting short end of the stick - vast majority of USCIS offices seem to have 2+ month shorter processing times right now, and aren't falling behind as badly as Denver.

  14. 4 minutes ago, MyJourney said:

our sample is too small to make assumptions....

My immigration lawyer says Denver USCIS office is severely understaffed and is falling behind, with rate of applications greatly outpacing rate of processing. His unofficial numbers currently have N-400 processing times for new (2017) applications at 9-12 months which sounds... harsh. Denver office seems to be one of slowest in the country at this point - hopefully USCIS does something about that.

  15. So here's the cheat sheet I've been using to keep an eye on Denver office applications progress; it seems overall trend is "sooo very sloooow" for just about everyone in DEN office. (Of course, it doesn't help that there are no reported applicants in Aug-Oct range :/)

    Hey everyone

I am a Denver filer for N-400. I had my paperwork sent in August, had my biometrics done in September and had my interview last week. I wasn't given the choice of oath the same day, it is scheduled after the interview and should be within 30 days. The interview was about 15 minutes long in total and I was out of the building by 9.30am.

The questions were easy, 6 as I answered them correctly, you also get asked some routine questions, I took paperwork to the interview with me that it asked for on the appointment letter, birth certificates, marriage license, divorce paperwork from previous marriage but they only asked for drivers license I.D. and my Green Card which they copied.

Straight forward and simple, but just took forever to get to this stage, but well worth the wait.

    Good luck to everyone.

    Dave :)

Dave, thanks a lot for the update - I've been keeping an eye on Aug-Nov threads trying to discern the speed of Denver office, but there are so few reported fillers it's nigh impossible to track the general trends. Vongratulations on passing your interview! I hope rest of us won't be far behind you.
