So just to update, everything went very smoothly at the interview last week. Interview Officer was very nice, barely asked any questions other than to confirm what was on our applications. I think the only "test" question was what my significant other's birthday was. Asked if we wanted to submit anything in support so we gave a few pictures and docs re joint accounts. Approved that night.
We did ask to do the name change there but she said she doesn't believe we could do it. I didn't want to press since I do not want anything to complicate things now. We should be getting our card in the mail this week. Oh, and no new medical required, seems like I read the new rules correctly.
Best of luck everyone!

Thank you!

Anyone care to share what questions they were asked for the interview in Los Angeles? Or is there a resource or link I can take a look at? Thanks in advance.

I had a related question - if you did not do a name change on the marriage certificate/when getting married, can you still request at the AOS interview to do the name change to your spouse's last name?

Hi! Just popping in to say that they may still request an updated medical for you since you applied before November. The new policy also states that AOS application must be filed within 60 days of conducting the medical exam.
I checked the language updates to the policy manual. In that section they have a chart that makes it easy to understand what validity period (1 or 2 years) applies to your medical if you did it before Nov 1, 2018. Luckily, mine falls in the 2 year category (signed 60 days before applying, applied within 60 days, and interview under 2 years).

Both text and email. Then I logged in to make sure it updated there as well.
Got my text/email yesterday
Mushroom - how long from the text was the interview scheduled for? And how long until you received the letter in the mail? Now all I have left is to wait. That new rule re the medical exam really helps and is perfect timing for us, no new medical needed!

Still waiting at 11 months...

Received a response from Senator Harris that the national center still has our file and we are just waiting to be scheduled for an interview. I guess that's all the info I can get for now.

Just wanted to let y'all know that my interview has been scheduled (online update). Will let you guys know when the actual date is once we get the notice. It's been 12 months and 2 weeks!!!!!
Congrats! Did you get a text/email or did you log in to one of the two websites to check?

@mushroomspore Hey to answer your questions....yes to AP and traveling, and also a few times between 2 weeks and a month each time. No issues, other than the long wait at LAX upon reintry in the secondary screening room (no questions, just waiting time).
Before it was 7 months or so but now it is all over the place it seems. Quite annoying. Agree with you on those emails, I hate getting them too

Just pulling this up again, anyone else waiting for the LA office interview?

It seems like November filers are starting to get interviews? We got the EAD ~65 days after for which we were super thankful. Prayers to all.
Can I ask where you are seeing this, that November filers are starting to get interviews?

For those of you that got the interview letter, did it always show up in informed delivery? Was it sent regular mail? Or priority mail or something else?
Thanks in advance.

Can anyone share how they received their interview letters? Does it come USPS priority, or just regular mail? Did it show up in informed delivery? Did you get texts/emails before or after receiving the letter?
Sorry for all the questions, but my apartment building apparently lost a phantom USPS package and can't find it, but I never got notice of it from informed delivery so I have no idea what it was. I'm just hoping not the interview letter..

Oh that was just in my AOS threads from Feb and March 2017. the vast majority from LA had their interviews within 6 months. The ones that had their interview waived took a lot longer.. so i would always hope for an interview in LA
Got it, thanks. I had no idea some people had their interviews waived. Good to know.

If you’re asking about the 10-24 months I quoted that is taken from the link posted by the OP. The new USCIS processing times page
Sorry should have been more clear - I meant the 4-6 month data points you were referring to of actual people's times in getting an interview.

It's so hard to believe that this is accurate... I compared the AOS processing times of my field office to Los Angeles. Most of the people from Los Angeles that were in my AOS thread including some friends received their interview within 4-6 months (with only very few exceptions). This page says 10-24 months?! That is a huge discrepancy. It's a known thing that Los Angeles City office processes the applications fairly fast. Compared to that San Diego is supposedly 6-18.5 months and thus a lot faster even though everywhere else San Diego is always around the 9-10months mark (which was accurate for my case).
Also, that is a very broad estimate that they are giving with an entire year difference?! Could be 6 months or also 18 months????
I'd follow the data here on VJ to be honest as it always seemed the most accurate to me.... I feel like this new processing time table wants to prevent that people keep on bugging USCIS with the excuse "hey it says online that you are currently processing cases from the date XY but you received my cases two weeks prior to that date. How is that possible?"
Hey can I ask where you are seeing the data points for the Los Angeles office? I'm currently waiting for my interview to be scheduled there... I saw a few that were around 6 months but now the other processing page time went from an average of 6.5 months to 8.5 months.

I'm filing from LA too (PD is 08/08). I got an RFIE on Feb 1 and our response was delivered this past Thurs. No online status update and who knows how long it'll take for further action from them? The RFIE was for our I-864 (they wanted more recent pay documentation from my husband and we had to get a joint sponsor). I don't have my combo card yet either. ☹
That sucks, sorry to hear. Is there a timeframe where you are then safe from RFE/RFIEs? Meaning if you get your combo card, would you be then safe that they have everything?

Looks like USCIS is delayed again? The processing times for AOS in Los Angeles went from 6.5 months roughly to 8.5 months now as of the latest update

Thank you for asking - it went well and we were approved! Case status online says case approved and card in production.
I will say it was absolutely nerve wrecking for me. We went in rather confident because our case is pretty clear cut. But then the USCIS worker started asking a lot of questions about my husbands German police record (two small misdemeanors from a while back). After the interview we waited another 20 minutes in the waiting room. The whole time I kept saying over and over “I’m so scared”.
Later he came out, called us to the hallway and gave us a paper saying it was approved. I just about melted. The whole process took about two hours. Most of it waiting. Status online updated to card production the next day.
I tell you, this whole immigration process has been BRUTAL! But thankfully we’re all getting closer to being done (at least for two years 😉).
Nice! Glad to hear and congratulations. I was even more curious because it's the same local office as mine

So crazy that everyone doesn’t have their EAD yet! Hopefully this month you will just get an interview notice (happened to some people in July too, no EAD or it came rediculkusly close to interview time). For my own case I notice that the whole thing overall is right on target in terms of timeline. We have our interview this Friday, almost exactly 6 months after applying, which is exactly what I expected. The only unexpected and absolutely agonizing part was waiting for that EAD card which we expected within 90 days of filing.
So so I hope you all will get interview notices soon and not have to worry about EAD.
Hey Denglish,
How did your interview go?

A good amount of LA local office filers in here. It'll be interesting to see how things move along for us.

I can't decide between FedEx or USPS Express. Since the filing fee goes up on Friday, does it make sense to use USPS so I have proof of the postmark just in case?
