  1. I paid $574 for a one-way flight via PAL. Don't forget about the Phil Travel Tax of $1,620PHP and the Airport Fee of about $550PHP that are collected at MNL. Yikes! Why don't they just take my wallet at the airport with the freakin extra fees. Goodness!!! LOL!!! They just make up taxes and fees. LOL!!!

$574 from where to where; that is a great price, what cheap flight search engine are you using?

  2. Some sample questions, thanks others for posting

    Mew's interview-not Philippines

    Here's how it went.

I got at the consulate at 7:30 am. Security guards? Not the most polite people. It's okay to bring cell phones and gadgets - they have a locker where you'll put them. They x-ray our stuff and we go to the second floor where the immigrant visa unit is.

We got a slip of paper with a number (senha). A lady handed out a paper containing a list of the documents we have to hand out. We were asked to put the documents in order. When your number's called, you get into a booth and the lady checks the documents and forms. They had misplaced DS-230 part 1 I had sent them, so I had to fill one out and sign it.

They were indeed picky about passport pictures. Both ears must be showing. A few people had to leave the consulate and have new pictures taken.

After everyone's handed out their forms and documents, they called applicants by name. Two people were interviewing applicants.

I got into the room, and the consul made me swear everything in my petition and everything I was about to say to be true and accurate. Fingerprinting followed. She then gave me back originals and copies of documents. (As far as the I-134 supporting documents go, she only kept the last tax returns and W2; bank statement, letter of employment and paystubs were given back to me).

    Questions asked:

    How did you meet?

    What does he do?

Do you plan to get married here or in the U.S.?

Will your parents attend the wedding?

The only evidence of ongoing relationship she asked for were pictures. I signed the forms I was supposed to and she said everything was in order, so I got the green slip (visa to be picked up two days as of the interview). Yay!

I had to wait for 4-4.5 hours to have the interview, but it lasted for less than 5 minutes.

Tip: If you're comfortable with speaking English, I'd say it's a good idea to have the interview in English. It was kind of hard to understand what the consul said in Portuguese and she was very glad we could speak in English.

I rated the experience 4 (just because of the waiting).

To all of you who will be going through Rio: good luck! It's not scary and you shouldn't freak out at all.

  3. Yet another concern. The NOA2 approval was dated Aug. 4 and is valid for 120 days. In our case, the interview will be ONE day longer than 120. Do I need to contact the Manila embassy to have them extend this time, or will this be automatically done? When dealing with the govt. and the letter of the law, ONE day can be the same as 100 days.

This is a big one for all of us who have to wait up to 150 days after our petition gets to Manila. I am sure there is a way to continue this. Does anyone have any information.

  4. For those of us anticipating a January interview in Manila for the fiance visa, we may have more waiting to do. I called the USE in Manila last night (October 18) and the lady told me that the waiting period for a K-1 interview has now increased from 120 days (from the date they received the physical file from the NVC) to 150 days. That information contradicts the pre-interview letter that my fiance, Churchita, got from the USE, which said that the waiting period would be 120 days from the date they received the electronic file from the NVC (August 31). She said that the December appointments have all been taken, so anyone who is still hoping for a December appointment can forget it now. Also, she confirmed that they only release the appointment schedules once-a-month and that they would be releasing the January interview schedule in the middle of November. So, what all of this means is that we have MORE WAITING to do. She said the December schedule, of course, is affected by the holidays.

They say "patience is a virtue." If that is the case, then I am becoming more virtuous by the second. All we can do is pray and hope that we all get our interviews sooner than later. WAITING IS SO HARD!!!

    TimR

You know, I worked for the Federal Government once. Could never advance very far. The hiring pollicy was later found to be illegal. I remember my last day working for the Forest Service. I was doing stand exams. I was doing 3 stand exams a day while others in teams of 2 would do one stand exam a day. This meant I was doing 6 times the work of the others. I was sat down and told that I had to "shape up", that I had a "bad attitude" because everyone was feeling bad about how little they produced. (True story). I quit. No 2 weeks notice. My feeling was if I had been overly productive so long they did not need notice. Though patience is a virtue. I think maybe, a work ethic is more of a virtue.

  5. When you go in for the interview I know that Luz has to have proof of her annullment. She has the NCO marriage contract with the annotations. Will she need to bring anything else? What do they usually ask for?

No personal experience but i am an attorney here. My question is, what is the nature of that proof. Is it a judgment from the court certified. I think that would be real hard for them to dispute. I know here you can just go to the clerk of court and have them certify it. Good luck.

The NCO (National Census Office) is the "official" record for marriages annullments and birth certs. When you go there and ask for a copy of your annullment you get your marriage contract with the annotations in the margins that the marriage was annulled and lists the judge, court case number and date of the annullment. As far as I know it's the official record but I don't know if the CO would want more than that.

Loved your home page. Why not call the embassy and ask?

  7. Thanks for bringing this to my attention and others attention. I did not have a clue about this. I hope they mention it in the packet they send so others are not caught off guard.

I have also been wondering if and when are they going to update Packet 4 to identify this new policy. Especially since they "claim" that the beneficiary will be required to reschedule the interview without having completed the DS-156 eform with the barcode. Thank God for this website and I feel really sorry for those who do not have a support group or informed immigration lawyer. I will continue to check the Packet 4 that is available through the Manila Embassy website to see if they make this update. Please keep us informed on whether your Packet 4 indicates that you must complete the DS-156 online. Oh, if the Packet 4 that you receive does not indicate that you must complete the eform for the DS-156. I suggest that you do it anyway. Better safe than sorry! Cheers!!!

Again, really appreciate what you are doing. I am beginning to figure out the process. I think I am a January interview so will keep passing information along.

  8. Thanks, is it your interpretation that those who started out written, need to switch over to electronic for the final forms like the 156 and I believe the 134?

You missed my post right below the one you quoted. I inadvertantly put DS-157 but it should read DS-156 for Post #2029. The DS-156 is the only "eform" that we must fill out online at this website (CLICK HERE). The DS-156K and DS-157 are NOT currently Electronic Visa Application Forms! Cheers!!!

I am really confused. How does one sign this electronic form...

There is not an electronic signature. Your John or Jan Hancock is still required. By the by, the bad thing about the electronic form is that if you make a mistake once you have completed the form, then you must go back to the weblink and complete the form AGAIN. Have fun!!! Cheers!!!

Thanks for bringing this to my attention and others attention. I did not have a clue about this. I hope they mention it in the packet they send so others are not caught off guard.

  9. I met my fiancé online, too, and I agree it's just another medium. But I didn't read Martin & Amie as being offensive, just frustrated that as far as the media are concerned, marrying a foreigner is JUST like 'Green Card', or that it's something only rich geekish men do. They couldn't profile a single female USC?

More than just another medium. I live in a community of 900 people. The 3 most eligible women are a murderer and 2 meth addicts. The internet expands the possiblity for someone like me from 3 to thousands. Maybe for some of us who don't fit in the USA, we fit elsewhere. As an attorney who has done over 70 divorce cases and has made in total $3,500 on these cases maybe I just don't fit. But isn't it nice that I can get in to Filipino culture where I feel comfortable.

  10. Just a friendly reminder (excerpt from the Manila Embassy website)...

    IMPORTANT ANNOUNCEMENT

Transition to the Electronic Visa Application Form (EVAF)

Starting November 1, 2006, ALL nonimmigrant visa applicants must use the online Electronic Visa Application Form (EVAF). The EVAF is free of charge, will speed up the processing of visas, and reduce waiting time. It is also easy to use because it is the same application form that is currently used, except it is online.

Handwritten or typed visa applications will no longer be accepted by the Nonimmigrant Visa Unit in Manila. If applicants do not have an EVAF on the day of their scheduled interview, they will have to reschedule their interview through the Call Center or through the VisaPoint™.

Guide to Completing the DS-157 Online Form (excerpt from the Manila Embassy Website)

Items 1, 3-5 - Must contain the applicant’s passport number, issuing country, and issuance and expiration dates, as shown exactly in the applicant’s passport. (For applicants whose passports were issued in Manila, please leave “Country” and “State/Province” fields blank in Item 2.)

Item 6 - Must contain the surname(s) of the applicant as written on the applicant’s passport.

Item 7 - Must contain the first name(s) AND middle name of the applicant as written on the applicant’s passport.

Items 8-9 - Are only for other names or aliases of the applicant.

Item 15 - Should include the address of the applicant’s permanent local address.

Item 17 - Female applicants with legally terminated or annulled marriage must tick Single (Never Married). However, they must explain to the interviewing officer the history of their previous marriage.

Item 20 - Should include the name of the applicant’s current company/institution, and not the name of the applicant’s supervisor, unless the applicant is self-employed or works as a personal employee. For business owners, please specify registered business name.

Items 24-25 - Require the complete information where the applicant will stay in the United States.

Items 30-31 - Must contain information about each U.S. visa issued and each visa refused, including tourist and other types of visas.

Item 37 - Must contain the status of the applicant’s relative(s) in the United States, i.e. legal permanent resident or American citizen.

Item 38 - Must be completed personally by the applicant.

    Cheers!!!

    Sheriff Uling

NOTE - I believe these are simply suggestions because I'm not sure that folks have followed this to the letter. Plus, I omitted their suggestion for items 40 and 41 from the list above.

Thanks, is it your interpretation that those who started out written, need to switch over to electronic for the final forms like the 156 and I believe the 134?

  11. I don't believe that there is anything to be mailed back to the embassy. I did not see anything in the letter that indicated such. I have noticed on peoples timelines even though there is a space for when you mailed stuff back to the embassy, no one has been filling it out. It seems like people are getting the packet between 3 weeks and 6 weeks depending on where they live. However, since it seems like you do not need to mail anything back, then, it does not effect the interview date. Jenny finishes school this week so P.M. this weekend or early next week for more information as she is busy now and we will dive into it more this weekend or early next week.

  12. This is the letter we received with packet 3. If you have not received this you are waiting for packet 3. I have found information from the embassy not accurate often.

On sept 19 we received ur approved 1-129F ninimmigrant visa petition from the National Visa Center (NVC) according you status as the fiancee or spouse of a U.S. citizen under the provisions of section 101(a)(15)(K) of the immigration and nationality Act (INA), as amended.

further action on your case awaits assignment of an interview date. Because of our heavy volume of K1/K3 visa applications, the waiting time for a visa interview at present is approximately 120days from the date we receive the petition in Manila. We will inform you of the interview date as soon as it is scheduled. We will send you an appointment packet with information and instructions to apply for a visa about 30days before the scheduled interview.

In the meantime, you can now begin preparing for your visa interview. Enclosed is a list of documents required in support of your visa application. Obtain all of the items that apply to you. Do not sent them to embassy. You will bring the documents only when a visa interview appointment has been scheduled. Your visa application may be refused or you may be asked to return for another appointment if you fail to bring any of these documents.

Jenny: You and the petitioner must inform the Embassy immediately of any changes in your address or your respective civil status. You and the petitioner must inform the Embassy immediately of any changes in your address or your respective civil status.
