  1. Waterproof makeup :) I actually love some of the islamic clothing styles. I bought so many tops and dresses when I was in Egypt. I must say that's the one thing I like about Egypt. You can go out shopping and not have to worry about seeing everyones crack hanging out of their pants or the breasts about to pop out of their shirts. I must say that Americans need to learn about modesty.

Do they sell waterproof under eye concealer and blush?

I tend to sweat and have extra oil under my eyes. I've been using a waterprrof undereye concealer by Mayelline that I love! For blush I use Blushsense. That stays on too! I also use an eyeliner by Lancome that stays on from the time I put it on, till I take it off. I can't even wash that off, I have to use eye makeup remover. I supposed when I put my make-up on, I want it to stay on.

So I've been told that if you are wearing socks and hijab and had made wudu before putting them on, you don't have to take them off again to make wudu and those parts are still clean.... so does the same apply to the waterproof makeup?

What I'm understanding by "waterproof makeup" is that it doesn't wash off with water but it doesn't actually block the water from getting to the skin, is that correct? I don't understand how that would affect your wudu unless it prevents the water from reaching the skin/area like nail polish does but I could be wrong. You'd still have to wash your face but shouldn't have to remove it completely. Kohl is pretty water prood and stays on thru many washings and it's not haraam for women to wear that.

  2. Amal, can you please show a picture of these gauntlets? I keep thinking of something from the midevil times when I think of a gauntlet.

    long_126_160.jpg

The arm sleeves Amal got were a little different than those. Hers are a polyster blend that's breathable and keeps your arms cool. Plus they don't do over the elbow so they only cover the forearm and they have lace at the wrists. I'll try to post a pic I found online but the "high-speed internet" at this hotel is anything but and it's getting on my nerves......

  3. I can't imagine any of you guys converting to Islam if you weren't married to someone from MENA so to say that you are doing it for 'yourselves' is probably not entirely honest. Had someone converted to Islam and then found a MENA husband then that's a diff kettle of fish entirely.

Not that it matters one way or another of course, but I would bear that in mind if I was trying to be really honest with myself about the reasons I changed my religious beliefs.

Not all of us were married/engaged to MENA men when we converted..... I've known both men and women who've converted to Islam while being married to a christian :)

As for those who converted to Islam after marrying a muslim man, maybe she saw that he has a good character and high morals because of his religion (something that's hard to find in anyone in the west) and that turned her on to the religion :)

  4. I've always been the type to wear makeup and nail polish and do my hair up and stuff and that hasn't really changed since embracing Islam.... I still like all that stuff. I'm still a woman after all and I like to fix myself up for my hubby :star:

I don't wear nail polish anymore since you can't remove it easily to make wudu but I do stain my nails with henna, keep my hair colored, wear makeup and so on but I have toned down the makeup a lot. I wear kohl, eyeshadow and powder regularly unless it's hot and I'll wear lipstick around the house but I'll wipe it off if I'm going out. I wear a light shade of eyeshadow and apply a thin layer of kohl so it's not too obvious if I happen to go out. The kohl stays with you thru wudu but I have to reapply the powder. I'll also wear perfume around the house but again, not if I'm going out.

Muslim women are allowed to decorate themselves with nice clothes, makeup, perfume, henna (not permanent tattoos) and make their hair look attractive for their husbands and around other close male relatives..... we're just not allowed to show that beauty to others outside of that little circle.

  5. I think of you MENA gals alot and my respect for you runs deep...you are truly unique in that many of you, not all, have converted to Islam, you wear hijab and abayas, and you leave behind so much of yourself for your husband.

Who converts their religion for another person? If that were true it wouldn't be anything more than an act to show for the other person. I have only met one person in my life who converted their religion to marry someone.... she was Budhist and he was catholic and the priest wouldn't marry them if she didn't convert (on paper even lol) and go to classes before the wedding. She still lights incense in front of the lil Budha in her shop (and so does her catholic hubby and he even refills the food and tea  )

I mean no offense to you personally but I get so tired of everyone assuming when a woman converts to Islam that it MUST be because she's trying to please her husband (or to find one)

there is a reason why immigration gives you that Conditional Greencard - it is for you to figure out if this relationship with your spouse is just that - a relationship

Also, this is incorrect information. USCIS does NOT issue cond GC so YOU can use that time to decide if you want to keep your spouse or return to sender..... it's so THEY can see if the marriage was a fake or legit. :bonk:

  6. I can honestly say that if I have another boy....I dunno if I'll allow him to be circumcized coz the infant they were performing the procedure on was crying so hard and loud and he couldn't do anything to stop the pain. It was so horrible.....

I'd much rather have it done as a baby so he won't remember for more than a few days at most than to not have it done, and when he's grown and finds out that it's a requirement in the religion, he has to have it done as an adult. I'd think that would be WAY more traumatic IMHO.

I don't know about today but medicaid paid for my son's 11 years ago.

  7. The Sunnah is at 7 days old but I don't think it's a big deal to do it in the hospital when he's born and then have the party when he's a week old. I wouldn't wait too much past 7 days though because it seems like the older they are the more it would hurt and the longer the pain would linger. My son was done in the hospital when he was born and he was over it as soon as he got to nurse lol.

  8. I'm soooooooooooooooooo ready for Ramadan!!!

The first year I wasn't at all enthusiastic about it... I couldn't wrap my head around what all the hype was about but after reading about the benefits and rewards associated with Ramadan I look forward to the opportunity!!

Now I love it. You'd think starving yourself all day would be a horrible experience but it's really not and it's actually a great form of meditation and a wonderful chance to reflect on life and how well you're living it and death and how prepared you are for it. You never know which Ramadan will be your last. I pray Allah makes Ramadan a mercy and a blessing for all of us, ameen!!

I also love going to the masjid and breaking my fast each night with the other muslims who have also been fasting all day. There's just something about breaking fast with the community that's indescribable. I hope they do that here.....

  9. i cut my hair (being bald), and she not like me to cut my hair like that, i had some problems from my hair cuz it was fall down from hat and gel...

i cut my hair without her "permission" or tell her. cuz she already not like!!

then she got mad and sad and .. and she says what is that why you cut ur hair without telling me, i told it is important to cut cuz the hair is falling down, and i want my hair to grew good...

and then she dicided to go and file the paper of divorce, that hapen before 1 month...

i want to ask memebers if something hapened like that to you

I get upset when my husband cuts his hair too.... he has the most gorgeous black curls and he is forever cutting them off!!! I also can't stand it if he trims his beard but I'd never divorce him because he did  Maybe if he shaved it completely off I would (jk) lol

  10. idont buy a new cobolt or g5 for a while now. we have had alot of new people starting and well.....things are not being assembled the way they should be due to lack of experience. give it a few months until people get used to the job.

Ummmm that sounds a little (lot) scary! I hope they have inspectors to catch them so the bad parts don't get used

  11. I've been adding a recitation of the entire Quran to my Blackberry so I can listen to it as I work and fast during Ramadan.

I have it on my mp3 player and love it! I have the cassette thingy in my car so I can plug it into the cassette player and listen to it when I'm driving or riding in the van. I've got the entire Quran with English translation, the last juz without translation with a beautiful recitation that I love and almost all of the last juz with a teacher reciting and his students reciting behind him for my kids to listen to.

I didn't put it on my blackberry because I carry my phone with me in my purse all the time and didn't want to carry it into the bathroom or something with the Quran on it

  12. Why do ppl think it's ok to spread rumors about other ppl? If this is how "friends" treat one another then I just don't want any!

In other news, I miss my hubby! He started a new job (YAY for jobs!!!) so now I'm home alone with the kiddies :( He got to come home for lunch so that was nice at least.

  13. JP, have you seen VP's statement: "Awaiting Approval to Join JP's Clique"

Give her a break. Let's initiate her

LOL, I never saw that. I didn't even know I had one! How do we initiate people? LOL I thought I was in Jackie's clique....are we rivals now?

 I forgot about changing that  I can't even remember which thread it was a few weeks ago that JP's clique was mentioned in

  14. EAT in the early morning. And eat good.

Don't try to live on bread and cheese. Get in some fruits, fiber........something that will stay with you. Me,,,I try to consume everything I can PLUS coffee, tea, juice................See food diet for me at 4am.

    jackie (F)

lol I am just thinkin my breath will be rancid talking all day and no water hehe that might be an added plus maybe they'll stay away from me thereby easing my work load some.hehe

Invest in a siwak (aka miswak) miswak.jpg and rinse your mouth periodically throughout the day.

  15. You absolutely cannot have a baby and NOT dress her in these little baby gowns! I forbid it!! We call them tater sacks LOL and I LOVED them with both of mine!

    tatersacks.jpg

Making your own baby food is a wonderful thing.... I did that most of the time. You can put pretty much anything in a food processor with some water and make baby food out of it. Just make sure you get it done all the way.

My advice is to enjoy your baby as much as you can now because she's gonna grow up and you're gonna miss having a baby :(

  16. - Getting a visa to Europe or the States is like getting a baby, everybody tells you "mabrook"

Not my hubby's family.... they cried and begged him not to go. They asked him repeatedly why he'd want to come here.

-Your dream is holding a different passport.

-Your relatives alone could populate a small city.

 it's funny coz it's true

-You pronounce your p's as b's (bebsi and bolice)

    I love that!

He calls them "spitty p's" lol

-You ask your dad a simple question and he tells you a story of how he had to walk miles just to get to school.

I'm not Arab but MY dad used to have to walk for miles, up hills in the mountains, barefoot, in the snow to school every day...... to hear him tell it at least

-You're speaking arabic with someone and everyone (who isnt arabic) thinks you're arguing, but instead you're actually having a peaceful conversation.

  17. soooo ummmmm I am not sure I understand where the "covering the hair" is in that verse.. don't get upset with me..please honest question. I wear the hijab and happy in it.. but wondering to support a case I am fighting.

The hair wasn't specifically mentioned because they were already covering their hair. Have you ever seen one of the pics of Mary that the christians have? Notice how she was wearing her "hijab"? How it covers the head and then is pulled back behind her shoulders? That's how women used to wear their veils when this verse was revealed so they were already covering their heads/hair.... Allah subhanallahu wa ta'ala then told us to pull the veils/khimars, that we were already wearing, around to cover our bosom.
